Amazing sound here. Really captures Garcia at 27. They really enjoyed playing together at this time and it shows. Good times they were-and still are in the ever present ether.
I just wonder how high the soundboard guys were?
At this time a good friend was doing the sound for people in the biz in the city and knowing my friend he was probably loaded but not so loaded that he wasn't the top notch pro he was. @@janenefollmer801

I just picked out "Cold Rain and Snow" to listen to. It was full of cring-worthy moments - guitar vocals - you name it. AND I LOVED IT! What can I say. It's the Grateful Dead.
my first Dead show. the Friday show from this weekend
I'd gotten my license a month earlier @ 17th b'day & that afternoon was
the first time it actually occurred to me I could borrow a family car & use it
my recall is NRPS played a set between Dead's acoustic + electric sets
Jerry was playing pedal steel with NRPS & Dave Torborg
wasn't in NRPS yet so Phil was playing bass
that's the way I remember it anyway
I hadn't listened to the Dead yet but HS friends I ate lunches with used to make
signifying mysterioso faces+noises whenever the Dead were mentioned so I
was curious enough. Found the Fillmore, walked right up w/ no line to buy my
ticket and as I was passing the front of the line w/ tickets an arm reached out
& grabbed me & pulled me into the line near the front ... 2 friends from a
volunteer project I was part of were there, so I had company for the show
& we were front & center & not even crowded
first of maybe 250 shows in the Jerry years
very much thanks to all concerned thru all those 25 years
plus the post-mortem years as well & an extra special thanks to Merle, who
seemed to bring out my favorite flavors of Jerry even more than the Dead did
during the '70s

Soundboards from the Fillmore must suck bad because the electric guitars don’t usually need much PA boost and a true soundboard recording from a good FOH engineer would have those guitars barely audible. I fucking hate wanna be recordists and engineer lauding “sound board “ recordings as something necessarily great. Such bullshit!
