Under the idea that Bride of Chucky is “ part horror, part comedy, part romcom, part road trip movie” That just puts it a single genre off of Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip.
11:00 I felt like the actor who played Andy stumbling over his lines more actually served to give the better impression of him as a regular kid. There are a lot of kids who just stop mid-sentence or struggle to find the right words.
im so glad that anyone is acknowledging the chucky tv series. i feel like whenever im in a conversation about childs play no one talks about the show but when they do its only just to bring up the "GENDA FLUID" line from chucky and move on.
IDK how but i got into a niche community of chucky fans on twt and instagram prior to the release of the first season and was basically ONLY exposed to the die-hard fans with unpopular opinions and extensive headcanons and no matter how anyone felt about the shows direction every episode release felt like an event for the first two seasons. Most of them favored Curse and Cult more than any other movie in the franchise and really enjoyed Nica as a character and Fiona Dourif's acting and it felt like they just kept doing a disservice to her as the series went on. At least in my experience, towards the end of season two when it became clear she was basically just going to go through the same torture cycle as Andy in original trilogy is when everyone stopped talking about it.
@m4gg1tz I liked season 1 well enough but after season 2 I stopped watching the show and it went downhill from there. And Nica just feels like one of those characters that was doomed by the narrative from the start. Poor woman can never get a break.
Fun fact in Childs Play 3 when Chucky's blood dripped into the vat of whatever it was, the creator originally wanted there to be an army of Chucky's because that is what would've happened and I assume to break the mold. But they couldn't due to budgetary restrictions. I feel like everybody knows that but oh well
I am honestly glad that don Mancini has kept creative control over the child’s play series. In Hollywood it’s rare for an artist to keep their intellectual property and do whatever he wants with it. I have heard that the modern stuff is really good in terms of black comedy/ horror
Hell it's kinda weird his name isn't as big as Wes Craven or John Carpenter especially when the later Halloween and Nightmare movies are not only worse but more obscure than the later Chucky movies
Chucky definitely was character that freaked me out when I was little, wasn’t till later down the road I realized just how freaking goofy he could get, and suddenly he didn’t seem nearly as terrifying.
10:55 i honestly love this, even if it’s accidentally, it makes it seem like a real kid is going through it (as it’s a real mistake from the kid talking) rather than a kid obviously reading a script
Chucky, basically my favorite horror movie villain and favorite horror franchise, he’s so underrated since people just go “Just kick him” and don’t remember how terrifying he can be. Also you misspelled Child’s play on the first segment because it says chjld’s play- AHHHHH
People say that only because they don't know Chucky. He's fast as hell, smart as hell, and has the strength of a full grown adult who can strangle people with his barehands (hence his nick name). Not to mention there's literally a thousand of him with copies, and not to mention his on and off wife Tiffany and two kids. He's gonna be near impossible to escape,as everyone except for Andy and the main 3 in the show ever escaped him. The rest either died or are worst off for the rest of their life. So yeah,"just kick him" never will work
I mean tbf “kicking him” is a go to answer because don’t find him threatening because all of the “comedic” projects done in him which is a majority of the stuff he appears in.
I think the TV show confirmed that Chucky is shockingly strong for someone his size. Besides, Chucky's usually not the one to go full aggressive unless he's like pissed off. The scariest thing about him is that he uses the fact that he's small to an advantage and can hide and shift through places most people wouldn't suspect.
That scene of Andy crying in the first film when he sees Chucky is trying to break into the psychiatric hospital is some of the best acting from a child I’ve ever seen.
I will say chucky is my favorite horror franchise because of the fact it leans so heavily into its own absurdity constantly building its lore and constantly one upping itself. It just oozes fun from every corner and i adore everything in this franchise haha
To make us Chucky fans feel better- season 4 is stated to not technicallly be indefinitely canceled. Just homeless. It needs a new streaming services. The director states he has the 4th season and a movie in mind.
Evil dead fans have a similar fate with s4 of ash vs evil dead being canceled (it was on Starz of all places) but also rumored to continue animated since Bruce is getting too far up there for the stunts but is more than willing to do the voice work
Bride of Chucky is one of my favorite movies by all times and how it balanced between Horror and Comedy at the same time, I know its is after "Scream", but I love it, mostly with Jennifer Tilly
Explaining the night Charles Lee Ray died - Chucky met Sarah (Nica's mom), murdered her husband, and began stalking her. Tiffany came home one night and found Chucky killing without her. He gets upset at her nagging about them never spending time together anymore and leaves to kidnap Sarah, who he sees as his side chick. Tiffany calls the cops (she DOES NOT know about Sarah) and tells them where Chucky's hideout is. Chucky is holding Sarah hostage while Eddie Caputo (the getaway driver) is waiting outside. The police suddenly show up and he thinks she called them (Even though she never said she did). He stabs her baby and runs away. Leading to the opening of the first movie where he's running from the police, Eddie abandons him, he gets shot, and puts his soul into a doll. Meaning, Tiffany let Chucky kill Nica's whole family in Curse over something she actually did. Most likely because she was upset after finding out he had eyes for another woman while they were together... Chucky doesn't necessarily want a family. But he knows to have Sarah, he also has to deal with her kids. Plus, he also knows he can "get rid of them" whenever he wants to...

53:54 Fun fact, this guy is actually the special effects guy for these movies irl and designed his own decapititated head in this scene Like Jennifer Tilly, he is playing himself in this movie!
When Child’s Play first came out , I was a little girl. I remember being absolutely terrified after seeing it with my mom. I will never forget having to go to the bathroom and our hallway seeming so long, dark and creepy. I was expecting that jerk to jump out from the bathtub and get me😂 Thanks for doing this video, your assessment of everything about it is on point👌
If it wasn't for Freddy Krueger than Chucky would have been my favorite slasher villain. I love when the slasher has a memorable, charismatic personality. Them cracking sick punchlines before scoring a kill always adds to the experience for me.
we used to have a VHS of a schlocky horror movie called The Guardian, about evil druid tree shenanigans. One of the preview trailers before the movie was for Child's Play 2, that started on a slowly cranking jack-in-the-box before it got crushed underfoot, with a quick pan up to Chucky spouting the "Sorry, Jack, Chucky's back!" That's the entirity of the teaser, and my brother was terrified of Chucky for literal decades, after that. 😂
0:50 Not those Horrifying Chipmunks. 😂 The Chucky Franchise is one of my favorites horror Franchises, underrated and really like seeing more of these Horror Movie Retrospectives. But seeing the Buddi Chucky in the Thumbnail reminded me of how much James A Janisse hated it.
at 1:37:08 the "holy" thing he's got going on is actually supposed to be a reference to the 60's Adam West Batman show, where robin would usually do the same thing, hence why he's dressed up as the boy wonder himself
I had this dumb idea of a Toy Story creepypasta where some schmuck stumbles upon a video tape of Lotso torturing Chucky to the point that it breaks him before having him trapped inside a jar of spooge.
From what I remember from Dead Meat covering the third film, the director and writer of the film acknowledged the kid who becomes Chucky’s new friend and potential victim was a mistake due to him being too old to be interested in Chucky (from what I remember Dead Meat explained it better since I haven’t seen the videos in awhile).
Personally seed of chucky will always have a place in my heart. It's the first and only film I've ever seen that successfully explained how i feel about my own gender identity. Also Jennifer Tilly is so charming. Curse of Chucky was probably my most watched movie. I think it was a really great return to form and (imo) showed a really great depiction of ableism
How am I only just noticing after 20 years that John Waters is in Seed of Chucky?! I do enjoy that whenever I re watch these movies I end up finding new details in them.
Fun fact, when the SyFy series was greenlit it was seemingly a replacement for a previous series called Channel Zero which was a series that adapted a bunch of different creepypastas and it was pretty cool.
I adore Dourif. I admire his love and dedication to Chucky while at the same time always find myself thinking, “People forget this guy’s a legitimate capitol-a Actour”. He just waltzes into Hollywood, snags himself an Oscar nom and some majour awards as Best Supporting Actor in some little film called “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest”, been in great things like “Exorcist III”, “Deadwood”, one of - maybe the best - episodes of “The X-Files” (where staff had to beg for budget help to get Brad), the only decent character in the Rob Zombie “Halloween” films and then some overseas movies called “Lord of the Rings”…. Nothing too big. Yet he’s going to be remembered best as swearing up a storm and having a gleeful time as a killer doll.
It's not a great film by any means, but I do think it's worth watching Alien Resurrection just for him (ok, and Ron Perlman too). I'm surprised he hasn't played more mad scientists.
@@ewanmcgregorofficial3641 The scene where Brackett finds Annie dead is wrenching. I don’t usually say someone’s acting is beyond a movie’s level because I realize everyone is giving it their best but it feels like Dourif just left everyone in the dust there. It’s a haunting scene and a stand-out in a film where everything else feels dredged out of a gutter.
Same dude I was extremely afraid of Chucky when I was young and teased by my family for my fear of Chucky, then I watched the original Childs play a few months ago and laughed my butt off, I wasn't at all scared I thought it was actually kind of unintentionally hilarious.
About a year ago I decided to watch the first child's play film after playing some chucky in DBD, next thing I knew it was 2 weeks later and i was finishing up the series and had become a massive chucky fan. Now my favorite review youtuber makes a video on it, life is good.
I love the Chucky franchise because Don Mancini has been with the series since the beginning and it feels like everyone involved has a deep love and appreciation for the series. I also think that when it comes to slasher series, The Childs Play franchise is one of the few to constantly take risks and switch up the formula the fans are used to, while telling a overall story.
The story got really crazy with Cult of Chucky really. Like he kills a lot of people, gets the daughter of his neighbor blamed for it all, tries to go on a rampage but learns a new power and then gets sent to the institution for the daughter and thus begins the spiral....
Child's Play 2 and Curse of Chucky are my all time favorites of the franchise. I feel like its a coincidence that you released this video this soon because on November 9, it will officially be 36 years since the first film released.
@@Leviathan99-h8l Child's Play 2 had everything that made the film enjoyable. And so did Curse imo. I like how they brought the horror back to the series. But now with the TV series, it's kinda iffy. I miss the genuinely scary Chucky from the earlier movies and from curse. His design in Curse is really good. With the hair styled and the scars. Better than seed imo as well
hearing the boss battle theme from Plok! actually just fired every neuron in my brain, ending a depressive anxiety spiral that's been going on for 3 days. Thanks Mark, might have just saved me
Thanks for such a well done video. I remember the first 3 playing a lot on Usa/Tnt in the 90's. I'd record it on vhs and watch it and giving myself nightmares xD It was like me trying to overcome my fear of dolls. Liked the tv show even if Andy's character kinda got the reboot Luke skywalker treatment. Universal studios 2023 Horror house and 2022 Chucky burger with fruit loops on it turning your hands red was a delight from someone who was scared of Chucky as a kid. Most protagonist were 18-34 women / men not a kid in peril which made it so scarier to me back then. I have a lot of Chucky merch but would never buy a doll tho xD Chuck is our mini Freddy Krueger.
I would say for Curse of Chucky, it’s not him wanting to be a father and a husband. I think he saw what he viewed as a perfect family and became obsessed with Nicas mother and attaching onto HER views of family in order to explain why he is so infatuated with her. He doesn’t want to be a dad he clearly didn’t care for the kids. Seeing as he hurt nica in the womb and hated how nicas sister eyes sat on her face. He was obsessed with what that women represented in a family unit not the actual family. Once being brought back due to Tiffany and finding out the OG family he attempted to annihilate is alive he wanted to finish the job.
2:57 - 4:22 Sounds exactly what has happened with comic book movies since the Burton Batman movies through Deadpool & Wolverine and onwards to the DCU.
I agree with this. I think the average quality of every film is around a 7-8/10. Obviously for things like child's play two, the final scene is amazing, but a lot of the first half is quite boring, so I believe that when specifically talking about the average, it's consistent.
This video is a really nice surprise! I used to be so scared of Chucky as a kid, but I recently got reminded of it and decided to get into the franchise, and actually had a lot of fun watching it! I'm still yet to watch the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the TV series to complete the entire Chucky franchise. I got into it late because I was scared earlier and I thought almost everyone forgot about it, so I'm really happy to see this video!

Check out Wes Craven's shocker Horace Pinker is like a more blue collar for the lack of a better term Freddy
I remember seeing an empty stroller next to a copy of Childs Play at a Walmart when I was young. I have never been the same since.
So I'm not the only one that was traumatized by Disaster Movie as a kid. Good to know. I distinctly remember it making me cry my eyes out.
One of my favorite bits of unintentional comedy is you calling John Waters "some guy"
Happy to see you got it posted! Fun and informative vid thank you!
1:17:26 detective pikachu was awesome man
It sucked both as movie and as pokemon fan lol
you guys can have opinions yknow
44:59 “things get a little… stupid” *shows Butch Hartman*
God I love this gag 😂
we used to have a VHS of a schlocky horror movie called The Guardian, about evil druid tree shenanigans.
One of the preview trailers before the movie was for Child's Play 2, that started on a slowly cranking jack-in-the-box before it got crushed underfoot, with a quick pan up to Chucky spouting the "Sorry, Jack, Chucky's back!"
That's the entirity of the teaser, and my brother was terrified of Chucky for literal decades, after that. 😂
0:50 Not those Horrifying Chipmunks. 😂
The Chucky Franchise is one of my favorites horror Franchises, underrated and really like seeing more of these Horror Movie Retrospectives.
The Star Fox series is a perfect example of what you mentioned about franchizes becoming confused over time at the beginning of the video.
I'm glad that this was finally uploaded since I had a very rough past week and I have this massive video to get my mind off of. Thanks Mark.
"Don't fuck with the Chuck!" is probably my favorite line in the whole franchise.
I agree
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Devon Sawa being brutally murdered in every season of the show lol
Finally, a ranking of every Rugrats episode
The thumbnail art ROCKS
Dourif is so much fun in the rob zombie Halloween movies and his acting when he finds annie dead is heart breaking
It's not a great film by any means, but I do think it's worth watching Alien Resurrection just for him (ok, and Ron Perlman too). I'm surprised he hasn't played more mad scientists.
@ Yeah, it’s not great but it’s fun. Dourif giving his usual 100%, Perlman and his crew are a blast and I’m oddly a sucker for Dan Hedaya.
I’m glad you got this back up! It was taken down before I had the chance to watch it (plus a 2 hour long video is a pretty painful loss 😭)
Honestly love these horror retrospectives! Hope some more series are looked at in the following years
The story got really crazy with Cult of Chucky really. Like he kills a lot of people, gets the daughter of his neighbor blamed for it all, tries to go on a rampage but learns a new power and then gets sent to the institution for the daughter and thus begins the spiral....
the moments like 59:49 made me laugh so hard, all these little jokes in the video made it way more entertaining than i already thought it would be
Child's Play 2 and Curse of Chucky are my all time favorites of the franchise.
Thanks Mark, might have just saved me
1:50:36 Mark not knowing who John Waters is does not surprise me at all
Thanks for such a well done video.
I love how he says he won’t mess up the kill count and immediately doesn’t count the death that occurs in the first scene 😂
Never thought I’d see you make a video of Chucky, Awesome video!
I like that Rugrats in Paris is off on the recommended sidebar in the free YT movies. Gotta get my Chuckie Chan fix afterwards.
This guy talking about one of my favorite things in the entire world is like a fever dream to me 🤩
My god, Chucky is the original Springtrap
2:39 sums up my favorite horror franchise so effortlessly. Wow 😂
It’s finally here!! Congratulations on finally getting this beast of a vid out there Mark!!
Love how your doing these horror retrospectives (also catching up was awesome)
I loved the saw video from last year so much lol. Really rewatchable
Love don mancini so much man the fact he stuck with then through it all is awesome
THE DOOM SOUND EFFECT(S) NEVER GET OLD BRO
Chuck broke my brain, and I only know the series because of Kill Counts, specifically from Dead Meat
“Welcome to the kill count
Wow, same here, it’s where I first “saw” all of them, they sure were weird
“I think We’re Dead Meat, Real Dead Meat”
@@ericksplushvideos”So… What *were* you going to be when you grew up?”
1:55:01 IT’S HIM
2:57 - 4:22 Sounds exactly what has happened with comic book movies since the Burton Batman movies through Deadpool & Wolverine and onwards to the DCU.
The Child’s Play series is one of the few horror franchises with a consistent quality.
Eh the quality dropped during seed and the TV show, but it always picks itself back up so I have hopes for the new movie
No
I agree with this. I think the average quality of every film is around a 7-8/10. Obviously for things like child's play two, the final scene is amazing, but a lot of the first half is quite boring, so I believe that when specifically talking about the average, it's consistent.

30:01 my favorite line is … Presto ya DEAD!!! it’s totally YOU 😂😂😂😂
Holy Crap Lois, LS Mark uploaded a new video!
The day this is finally posted.. we lost Tony Todd aka Candyman😢 RIP Legend
Glad mark wasnt a major hater and acknowledged how good Jennifer Tilly is
Unpacking the Chucky franchise and im loving the nostalgia horror vibes from child's play this 2 hour video was worth it.
Thank god this finally was able to come out, and I'm early?! "Freaking sweet lois!"
