  • This Vauxhall Corsa 2008 1.2 Petrol was bought for a reason! It cost a lot more than it should have and has so many faults and problems.
I delve into what to look over and check when you buy a car and also fix them and in the end work out if this car has been a mistake to buy or if it will be right for my daughter to drive.

They say the spanner is Service and Electrical. Mines kept coming on and then going off when driving. I got a cheap Bluetooth OBD from Amazon and got the code P00B7, turns out I needed coolant in it.

The two rubber breather pipes from rocker cover to carb generally get clogged with that mayo, and yes your right it’s the flat head caused by short runs and condensation builds up then mixes with the oil.

I service my corsa d se 1.2, I use gfs for my parts as they are just around the corner from me, I've never torqued the oil filter I hand tighten it and nip it up with a 24mm socket, also got a oil transfer pump to suck the oil out, air filter simple to changed, I do oil change, air filter, oil filter, cabin filter every 6k because the chain, was told by a few mechanics I know to do it every 6k, when you see a corsa d with a timing chain fitted at 40k mile that due to lack of maintenance of oil changes, plus if I change the spark plugs i do that by feel as well, as my torque wrench is 1/2 starts with 28nm, so I might look for 3/8 torque wrench, keep up with the videos really liking them, especially corsa

Good to see another car on the fleet. I'd have been wary of a high mile 1.2 Corsa due to the timing chain issues, but you seem to know them quite well from your videos.
The prices of used cars are crazy at the moment, you really don't feel as though there's value for money!
I've been looking for a newer daily driver for a while, I keep looking and then being put off by the prices.

Thanks for watching! Yes higher mile can be a worry but the timing chains are good on these, the tensioner may need work but I'll plan on doing the timing chain soon.
Pricing is nuts! I'd not normally splash this cash on what has so many bad points!

I bought a 13plate 1.2se 3door in white 18 months ago for three half grand full history 99 thousand miles.bodywork very good no rust on rear arches drove well I bought it off Facebook off a reputable garage who's been trading 30years good reviews so I thought nothing to worry about had the car a week started getting problems from water pump failing to coil springs snapping the list goes on then a year later and a thousand pounds in repair bills I thought great I've got on top off it until four months ago I was driving along 40 mph it lost power so I pulled in and the engine was clunking and banging I checked oil plenty off oil still good from last oil change three thousand miles ago .so took it to three different mechanics no lights on dash just this terrible noise from engine the only cure new engine 😮 .so then I had to work out whether my now three grand car was worth a new engine
I managed to source a 1.2 engine off eBay for 850 quid 75delivery 32000miles I got a local mechanic to fit for four hundred so now I have a 5 grand and something Corsa that runs ok but do I keep it and hope no more problems or get rid .I thought about it I'm gonna run it hopefully another year and pass it to my youngest daughter when she turns seventeen just to get my money out off it .I've always had Vauxhall's over the last thirty odd years caviler novas with never a problem but I have to admit these modern vauxhalls don't seem half as good as they used to it has put me off them I think my next car will be a ford or a Kia they seem much better in modern form.

Wow, yes unfortunately they can seem like a cheap or budget car but you never know what you're buying whether private or dealership. Really bad that you had to replace the engine, it must have been bad when you bought it but covered up. Glad you've got it useable now, keep on top of servicing and repairs and it should last though, at least the bodywork tends to hold up well on these and parts are cheap. I'd not hedge your bets on Ford as they suffer many issues (Ford eco-boom engine is a common bad engine!).

Always find your videos insightful and frankly make me like my 60 reg 1.2 SXi more when you remind me how (relatively) cheap parts are and how simple they are to fix. Got a bit of a rattle on mine at cold start. Thought timing chain but could be loose valve lifters. Ever experienced this with the petrol models?

    • @junkendriven

Hey, so yes that rattle on start, only at warm start up? Chances are it just needs oil and filter change, I'd do that first before even looking elsewhere

I'm looking at one down sizing from my Volvo V50 1.6 Diesel, I've owned it for nearly 8 years , spent money on it , serviced every year , but I'm having issues with the injectors, I've been told because the cars a 2010 it'll cost a £1000 to get it sorted with new injectors, bit of a bummer considering I've just spent £310 to get it through its M O T and put 2 new tyres on the rear , can't win can you .

I had 3 cyl version. Timing chain snapped and needed rebuild. I later found out the previous owner had chain snap and the poor guy I sold it to had chain snap a year after I sold it. So that's 3 times and it only had 60k on clock. Bad design by vauxhall.

Hello Andy, I’m hoping you can help, my friend has a Vauxhall corsa 2011 limited edition, hasn’t been started in over a year and a half, went to start it earlier, started first time run for about a minute, then cut out and wouldn’t start again, any thoughts? I believe the fuel filter is in the tank and not a serviceable part
    Many thanks

    • @junkendriven
      @junkendriven  Рік тому +1

It's more likely the old fuel had degraded, it may have blocked injectors or all sorts. I'd start by a lot of fresh fuel in the tank, if possible take the fuel line off at the engine and run the lift pump a few times (ign on and off a few times) and draw new fuel in.
You might have also clogged the spark plugs so worth taking them out and inspecting.
Good luck, hope you get it running
