The first thing to realize is that the game literally cannot survive in the long term, at all, without massive amounts of troop death. If there isn't significant amounts of troop death, then you get to a place where everyone just has enough troops to fight forever, and it's just a question of who has more people willing to live online 24/7. There is a reason that every major game in this space that has been around for any number of years has significant amounts of troop death. Because the ones who didn't all failed or implemented it, because these games just do not work without it. For people who say someone can place a bastion and just hold it forever and you can't crack it, because they will fill it endlessly, I would ask, did you rally it for twenty four hours straight? Because in the more recent seasons that is usually enough to make one side quit filling, and in SoS3, they upped the speed of troop death again via policy. I do agree that in the early seasons, the rate of troop death was so low that it just became an easy stall tactic, but I don't think that is the case anymore. I think the question you asked itself doesn't get the answers we want. Someone might hate bastions because you have to kill troops in them. Someone else might not like them because it is an offensive and defensive structure at the same time. A third person might think that the troops don't die fast enough, meaning it's too easy to stall. There are several other issues you could have with them, including cool down, limitation on number you can place, etc... I personally think the system is fine, now that they have multiple times upped the rate of troop death, to the point where it isn't just a case of "you can't get around it because it takes too long" It's now actually a case of "who's getting a better trade and how long are they willing to fill", which is as it should be. The one change I do think is still desperately needed is that offense and defense should both take fifty percent dead. Right now, defense wins the bastion trades most of the time because of that issue, and it makes it very hard to crack bastions. If they just made it an even playing field, it would be much better.
