  • This is a sweep I have used countless times vs the best competitors in the world, but I don’t see many people using it.

Please more videos on playing spider guard/lasso these two video series are amazing! Literally helped set the light bulb off. Thank you! I love how you dive into the theory and the overall concepts of different positions( like putting your knee in the “hole” for knee cut passing 🤯)

I love how you back up your techniques with competition footage of its use. Great details as always.

Jon I been using ur version of the spider guard. Man has it help so much. My only problem is, it's super hard to attack from that position.

Hey Jon, thanks for all the videos you put out. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the "bicep ride" - pass counter/stalling position where you have 2 sleeve grips keeping your opponent's hands near your hips, your feet on his hips with your knees flared over his biceps. I noticed that a lot of spider, lasso, collar sleeve guarders use this and I am hoping to learn how to use it and how to pass it too.

Jon! question, at 1:13 this variation has always been my comfort zone, cause i feel like you get that real pull/catapult over the opponent. But when it fails, i do get stuck in that weird half/guard spider as suggested at 1:29.
For your sweep, do you 1) step on the mat to get that big pull, then go for your variation (foot behind the butt) or 2) you go straight for your variation with the food behind the butt (as they try to squat)? - do you find you get the same amount of pull to lift them over your shoulders without placing the foot on the mat? If this doesnt make sense, PM me and ill clarify!

Jon Lau If they are close I always go for the foot under butt variation first if they don’t flip over head then I switch to the leg trap modified x position under. If they are standing far away then I put foot on floor and pull them ovenrhead fast usually there is much more momentum in that case and hard for them to sit down before you bring your leg back up and trap their leg back in hat modified slide rx position. Hope that makes sense

@@JonThomasBJJ crystal clear! i actually rewatched your fights against Cascao in 2016 and 2017 and i see exactly what you mean, and with the "x guard" variation :) this helps!
