I would think so, as when you think about it. Indoor 200m times are slower than 200m outdoor times and they have 2 bends which are tighter. So it's like the less bends and the less tighter they are, the quicker
My fastest time was around a bend. So think it has to do how you feel on the day, body and bunch of other factors. However this will certainly not be the case for everyone as everyone physiology is not completely the same.
Sorry - Smith and Carlos said it wasnt a Black Panther Salute but a "Human Rights Salute". Both athletes were opposed to violence and internal terror. Both athletes including Norman the Australian runner were discriminated against afterwards. Norman was unoffically banned for competing in the 1972 Olympics even though he qualified 22 times and set a new national record. It was a black pride salute.
TrollBean see I have seen several numbers given for this. All between 10.11-10.14.. ridiculously fast considering his 100m PR was 10.09 (definitely could’ve been a sub10 man had he raced the distance in 1996 IMHO)
Drew, that's not what NLS is referring to. They're mentioning how close the FIRST 100m of the 200m race is to his PB in a 100m race. Both of these races and metrics being referenced are from a "dead start". With that stated, I'd argue that the mechanics of running a curved 100m (beginning of the 200m) are different than a 100m open - straight. It is possible to angle your run to actually run technically less than a full 100m by either running closer to the center throughout, or swinging closer later but before the straight comes up. Yet, some runners, ahem, Wallace Spearmon, struggle with the curves to a degree that it actually gives them a disadvantage. My bet is that Michael Johnson (the guy with a 10.09 PB) is not at a disadvantage at the least, on curves seeing as though he's not a long and tall stride kind of guy. Nonetheless, it's impressive that he pulled that off in a longer race. He probably, in theory, should have a sub-10 on the books.
Yeah, you see what happened to Mike Johnson when he raced Donovan Bailey...lol. Bob Costas ignorantly compared Johnson's last 100 meters time of his 200 meter event to Bailey's 100 meter time in his 100 meter event. Since Johnson was at full speed compared to Bailey coming out of the blocks.
in 1987 I ran 200mt in 17.65 in Olympic games (commodore 64). for those that will reply "there weren't 200mt but only 100mt in Olympic games" I reply that at that time I just reprogrammed the game to make this comment in 2020.
Check out some the records from the 1968 Team. The Long jump record chased by Carl Lewis and 400 record broken by Johnson were both from 1968. That team was tough!
Including 100m that belonged to Jim Hines. Carl Lewis chased those 3 WRs : 100m, 200m and long jump, got close to all, but eventually succeeded in 100m at Tokyo WC 1991 with 9.86 which was previously owned by Calvin Smith. Mike Powell's WR (8.95) that broke Bob Beamon's WR long jump seems to stay longer. Powell 's WR was also set at Tokyo WC 1991. Nowadays, very rarely to see someone reach 8.60m.
So we gonna ignore that guy that got disqualified because of his swayed shoe that supposingly damages the track... That a sick reason for dismissing someone effort
Wonder what those early runners could have gotten for times on today's tracks and with today's trainings and spikes? Charles Paddock jumped across the finish line? That alone would never be coaches today. Lol
nothing against flo jo, but her 100m might have been wind aided and the 400m record could easily have been on steroids. germany had controversy with most there athletes at the time and flo jo set record on a windy day with faulty wind guage. the most legitimate of those records was probably flo jo 200m
If Bolt had failed to break his own record in 2009 just because he recently overtook MJ's record, he would have lost it to Yohan Lake who ran impressive 19.26!! Freaks of nature.. Bolt means Speed!! GOAT of 100metres and 200m

I always felt if Usain did not look side ways or the clock while he was sprinting, he could have beaten this number. He always seemed to slow down a bit last 10m when he blew by everyone. If he can do 100m in 9.58, with full speed head start for second 100m and even with the fatique, this can be done!
Sachin Dennis is probably the biggest threat in the next 10 years or so out of everyone we know about. But idk if even he can break Bolt's records. Guess we'll just have to wait and see
On that day he could not have ran 18.99 so easily. As going 2/100th of a second slower in the opening 100m would not save enough energy to improve 28/100ths of a second in the last 100m. However I believe that if the wind was stronger (+2.0 instead of -0.3) and he waisted less energy on the bend and finished at a speed which he is totally capable of reaching (8.8 or 8.9 for 100m) he could comfortably run under 19 seconds. His top speed of 27.79 mph or 44.72 km/h which would be the equivalent of 100m in 8.05s (the wind on that day was +0.9).
wait wait wait wait,ur telling me Tyson gays 2 100m was 9.53 O_O SO THATS THE WR,wait then TOMMIE SMITH WITH 9.4,ok I know cause they are running when they come in the 2 100m duh it will be faster
The 200m athlete is the fastest man in the world, NOT the 100m man; yet the commentators continue to promote this nonsense year after year. It's simple math, the 200m record was faster than the 100m record and the 200m runner is on a curve while the 100 runner is on a straight track! If 200m were on a straight track like the old 220yds, Bolt would have easily run a 18' 86! Prove me wrong!!
He literally said "he won the race by the largest margin in WC history" and played better music when talking about Bolt. How does he not respect him? Is it dissing Bolt to say that he dipped his chest?
@emi9870 Not that we know of even though every other Jamaican in the top 10 has had PED issues. It's not as if Jamaica had good anti doping standards. But yeah as of now he is not guilty.
@emi9870 No one is trying to discredit him. Stop over reacting! It's just facts. Plenty of PED users have been caught years after their retirement. No one is going to get to where he got. This record will last for a very very long time.
@emi9870 BS, I never said he has used PEDs. I'm simply pointing out that it is possible that his marks are the result of PED given the history of the sport and his fellow sportsman. You are trying to hard to accuse me of something I never said. Get over it!
@emi9870 Again, you have a reading comprehension problem. Where have I said he was accused of PEDs or that there is proof that he has used them? I have not and you have no proof that I did - SO END OF DISCUSSION!
@emi9870 Anyone with a brain would not read into it as you have. There was no original ARGUMENT. Hello! You jump in by responding to my post - saying that Bolt does not use PEDs when I never mentioned Bolt. I simply responded with these stated facts - NOT THAT WE KNOW OF and that AS OF NOW HE IS NOT GUILTY. Why do you have a problem with facts. You act as if you KNOW he did not. That's not a fact! And you just can't deal with these facts so you have to twist the meaning of my words. We can never say we know for a fact that he did not and as I said particularly given others facts I mentioned like - MANY HAVE BEEN CAUGHT AFTER THEY RETIRED, ALL OTHER JAMAICANS ON THE TOP 10 HAVE PED VIOLATIONS, AND JAMAICA DID NOT HAVE GOOD TESTING FACILITIES. ALL FACTS! Stop crying and deal with these truths man. Just because I point out the possibility under such facts does not mean that his greatness is in doubt or that he is guilty of such possibility. Get your head out of his ass. He may be just a very unique individual or - or not. Who knows - you don't! Until otherwise he is the GOAT. But we don't have to deny these facts in order to say that.
you really have glossed over the real history of the event by ignoring hand timing and the difference between fully electronic, altitude and wind. it appears to the untrained eye that someone ran 20.0 for 201m a long way back, and even the 20.2 time was a long time ago..but these were not electronic, and wind was not measured, or altitude. Even Tommy Smith's 19.83 was also an anomaly..it was in an era when it was common practice to use dianabol for sprinters, and it was a mexico which gives signfiicant advantage. The iuse of triple drug busted athlete as the example of the 200m straight track record is also problematic. It wasnt until the late 1990s that the sport was truly clean (not completely but it reached a point where the gains werent justified). carl Lewis was the true king of the 200m from the late 1970s through to the late 1980s and whilst he tested for excess caffiene once in an era of changing allowable levels, his progress did not in any way indicate use of drugs as he didnt improve at all over the distance from his late teens until he retired- even though his 100m time improved in marks, when adjusted for wind, that too barely changed- hardly an indicator of drug abuse. in the late 1970s and early 1980s, carl was considered the true record holder, not Mennea, who was also a drug user and achieved his result at high altitude. Lewis' 19.75 was done at Seal LEvel, and he backed it up with other sub 19,8s runs. The early 1990s saw more athletes done for drugs and in the mid to late 1990s, the drug, the clear, also "clouded" the actual truth..and some athletes got busted, but many, including those who took the records, never did- so we'll never know. Despite this, Johnson was never suspected as he was known to be a phenomenal athlete with incredible work ethic, and he was present at most major meets, and peaked for those events- all characteristics that cheats dont usually display. however you cannot ignore that he made his best runs right when 'the clear' was being used widely- by his fellow athletes also. This being said, even in the era of bio passports, the jamaicans had a golden period where they were not subject to the same testing regime that others were, and they had many athletes churning out incredible results. None have been acused however, and only 1 busted- and he was a repeat offender. Bolt was a freak from day 1, and of all the athelets. is actually the most likely to not have cheated. its just a shame that MJ conmpeted during the balco/Clear era. Usain was running world class times at age 15 and 16, and throughout his career, he declined over time from his early 20s, through to retirement. So whilst the history of the 200m is supposed to be about times and human performance, it is unfortunately dubious and suspect.

I don’t think 9.58 and 19.19 will be broken in within the next 40 years. These records are the equivalent to Flo Jo’s marks in the 100/200m. Bolt & Flo Jo are just decades beyond the competition.
Had Michael Johnson not stumbled he may have had the first sub 10 second 100m start which would make him have 19.20 if he ran 0.12 secconds faster at the start
It was more of a stutter that actually barely cost him any time. His fastest ever 100m was 10.09, so the likelihood of him doing a sub 10 for the first 100 in a 200, even in a perfect race, is very small
A reason the frontrunner these days eases up at the end is because sponsors pay a premium for each new world record, so by giving their everything, they risk making that run their last world record.

Would people run faster if it was just a straight line rather than including the curve?
sure, the curve takes a lot of energy. That is why running on the bend is a special skill.
some people do, not everyone.
I would think so, as when you think about it. Indoor 200m times are slower than 200m outdoor times and they have 2 bends which are tighter. So it's like the less bends and the less tighter they are, the quicker
some faster than others but yeah, it would be suprising if they ran slower
My fastest time was around a bend. So think it has to do how you feel on the day, body and bunch of other factors. However this will certainly not be the case for everyone as everyone physiology is not completely the same.
This is what I call in dept analysis
thanks for watching!
How good would it have been to see Johnson and Bolt racing at the same time? They could have pushed each other to some crazy times.
Mennea...what a great athlete, my idol!😍
Always Love this Great channel and it's brillian Analyse videos ❤

The reason he raised his hand was for the black panther party during the civil rights movement, not to show off his victory
Raymond Menz sorry
🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact:Bolt ran faster when he ran the 19.19 200m then when he ran the 9.58 100m
So excluding reaction time Blake ran the fastest 200m ever
yes
Didn't the track that he ran on have less of a bend which may have given him an advantage?
Good video - I remember Tommie Smith's run and was astonished.
First 100m: 10.12
Secost 100m: 9.2
TrollBean see I have seen several numbers given for this. All between 10.11-10.14.. ridiculously fast considering his 100m PR was 10.09 (definitely could’ve been a sub10 man had he raced the distance in 1996 IMHO)
Difference in starting the 100 from a dead start and starting the 2nd 100 at full speed.
@@deeja4909 I was talk talking about Trollbean's post.

Smith’s splits were 10.5/9.3.. IAAF World Record Progression list
My own record in 200m is 20.15
Thats awesome to be within 1 second of the record.
The shoes had already been banned and he was not supposed to be wearing them.

Especially the 400. No woman will EVER break that record
nothing against flo jo, but her 100m might have been wind aided and the 400m record could easily have been on steroids. germany had controversy with most there athletes at the time and flo jo set record on a windy day with faulty wind guage. the most legitimate of those records was probably flo jo 200m

If they’re running the second 100 in 9.39, aren’t they beating bolts 100 WR?
It is flying 100m which is always faster
That record is when they where already running
The thing with 100's is that you spend the first 20-30 meters just to speed up. Usain second 100 is 9.27
If Bolt had failed to break his own record in 2009 just because he recently overtook MJ's record, he would have lost it to Yohan Lake who ran impressive 19.26!!

Did usain bolt run the second 100m faster than the world record? 9.32?
Nevermind, it’s because he’s already up to speed
I always felt if Usain did not look side ways or the clock while he was sprinting, he could have beaten this number. He always seemed to slow down a bit last 10m when he blew by everyone. If he can do 100m in 9.58, with full speed head start for second 100m and even with the fatique, this can be done!
Sachin Dennis is probably the biggest threat in the next 10 years or so out of everyone we know about. But idk if even he can break Bolt's records. Guess we'll just have to wait and see

Wold recode 9.58 na ki 9.32 ok
44 years later....wow. Ok Tyson Gay
Great Mennea 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
On that day he could not have ran 18.99 so easily. As going 2/100th of a second slower in the opening 100m would not save enough energy to improve 28/100ths of a second in the last 100m. However I believe that if the wind was stronger (+2.0 instead of -0.3) and he waisted less energy on the bend and finished at a speed which he is totally capable of reaching (8.8 or 8.9 for 100m) he could comfortably run under 19 seconds. His top speed of 27.79 mph or 44.72 km/h which would be the equivalent of 100m in 8.05s (the wind on that day was +0.9).

yes he did. i remember watching it as it happened. he was on fire that day.
he eased off but even then, he said he didnt even feel close to running his fastest and thats why his 19.73 was so surprising
This man not respect usain he makes its sound like he only one cause he bent his head dude, he had a negative wind and looked at the clock
He literally said "he won the race by the largest margin in WC history" and played better music when talking about Bolt. How does he not respect him? Is it dissing Bolt to say that he dipped his chest?

It's amazing that in all that time only 1.81 seconds has been taken off with training techniques, synthetic tracks, and PEDs.

500 years from now the world record for 200m will be 9.58
Michael Johnson the world will run out of a hundred during the tougher period Usain Bolt Text superior to the world of different small
