Looks fantastic! I've been wanting to do this hike but it takes quite a while to get there by train. Guess I'll have to make another trip back to Japan! Your detailed guide is really informative, thanks.
I think flying into Kumamoto would be the way to go as from there you can get to both Aso and Beppu pretty easily. That said, the next time I go to Kyushu I'm going to rent a car so I can get to places like Kujusan (there used to be a bus from Aso but no more) and Kaimondake down south past Kagoshima, which sounds amazing. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Oh wow! I love volcanoes and have been to a few in various parts of the world. I knew that Kyushu had a lot of volcanic activity but this is an amazing showcase of it. Absolutely must put this on my list!
Thank you for an amazing guidance! Such a fantastic and dynamically enjoyable route. I'm looking into the same route from Alltrail and then fortunately found your video haha. Me and my gf are anticipating to follow this on the upcoming September. Cheers!
Glad you found it helpful! Hope you have a fantastic time - Mount Aso was unlike anything I'd seen before 😎 If you're going to Beppu check out my video about Mt Yufu too - that's also well worth doing 👍
Hi thank you for the wonderful video! I am also planning my trip here! Can i check with you approx how many minutes does it take from Aso Sanjo terminal to the active crater by walking up?
Hello from NYC! Thank you for such a detailed video, we'll be visiting Kyushu in 3 weeks and while making itinerary, i was debating if we should make a little detour at Mt. Aso (driving from Takachiho to Yufuin) but after watching your so elaborative and detailed video, it was no brainer, I added it to my excel sheet right away, so thank you! How long was the hike that can get us closest to the crater, were there any signs forbidding flying drones?
Glad you found the video helpful! The main active crater is extremely easy to get to, no hiking required. Not sure if you'll be able to park right next to it (the parking lots seemed to fill up a lot on the days I was there), but there's a bus stop close by. The hike up and above it can be done in a couple of hours but I'd extend it out to tour some of the other peaks too. Plenty of incredible views up there! As for drones I'd recommend against even trying - there's no way the Japanese are going to be cool with that. If you're out in the middle of nowhere with no one around that'd be okay but this is very much a major tourist attraction, so best to give it a miss. Have fun!
@@Kampai_Cam Thanks for your response, we were able to park right next to it, however, the volcano got little angrier and we were asked to evacuate. However, the experience of driving up and viewing it from the visitors center was amazing.
Thank you for the splendid video! I am thinking about going there in mid-April but still juggling whether to take a hike from Aso Sanjo to Kusasenri or take this instead! Do you mind sharing how long you spend for the Nakadake and Takadake loop trail? Thank you!
I would definitely do the Nakadake/Takadake loop trail if you can. The scenery is out of this world! There are lots of options for the route you take, but you'll need at least three hours. I based my plan off this: www.alltrails.com/en-gb/explore/trail/japan/kumamoto/mount-nakadake-mount-takadake-loop

Thank you! It's a pretty awesome part of Japan so I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time =D
This is so cool and eerily desolate scenery, perfect for Halloween!
Thanks for an amazing video
Thinking about hiking solo while visiting Beppu in mid Sep. Great reference
Pleased I could help! Mount Yufu is pretty freaking awesome, as is Beppu. It's probably also worth visiting Yufuin too ;) Have fun!
Thank you so much for making this as I was searching hard for the trail possibility from Kumamoto. This really help
My pleasure! I hope you have a fantastic time :)

Are there luggage lockers at the museum?
I don't believe so... but it's not something I was looking for.
