Well Eric your knowledge of the island is incorrect. You say that 'NOTHING OPENS ' until after Easter. Some businesses were open. Shops bars restaurants Hotels etc etc were open. Thanks for the advice on what to do but we are both well travelled thank you 😃 👍

The beginning of the season will always be slow and the lovely Greeks are so laid back so go at their own pace, I know it's very frustrating for you both but to go in May especially the beginning of May, isn't the best choice for A Greek island if you want more from a holiday, I know somw hotels were open but each one is run differently. Maybe This Is probably why it's not included in a package at that time of the year. And yes they shouldn't have taken the booking if it wasn't ready and all fully open, but there could be many reasons why they did take your booking. 1 being they didn't want to lose any trade as they get little from the holiday companies when they sell their holidays. 2 maybe they didn't like to say no to customers and want them to enjoy the island. Even if it's not fully open, because they think everyone knows that it's a quiet time, and they are still going through maintenance and still going through opening up? But want to take bookings for those who want to stay there anyway despite the situation. Remember the Greeks don't think like us Brits.. Lucky for you that Dennys Inn was just across the road and you got to use their facilities. Lesson learnt and good that you have given your account of the situation so others don't make the same mistake 😊
Mg is that all you gotta moan about ? Iv been to kalamaki 13 times over the years. We didn't even have air con in the early 90s ! You have a gorgeous beach and sea to go in. Early in season only just started ! Water is solar powered and isnt hot til pm ! Your lucky you can go away. Id give anything to be able to afford to go again. Stop moaning
We’re not in the 90s tho , we didn’t have air con back then either , we agree the beach and the sea is gorgeous! Not everyone likes to sit on a beach all day and prefer to sit around and swim in a hotel pool And we we attempted to shower at 5pm We are also aware it’s first day of season but when u pay the money for facilities it’s nice to be able to have them dont you think 🤔 Also anything is possible to make a holiday happen we make it happen 😉 if u had watched the video it’s all explained in that 😎 But we appreciate the time you took to message us 🥰

Had the same issue in Lesvos this year. Arrived 2nd May - lovely apartment but the pool was empty and I was so disappointed because the beach wasn’t great and a bit of a walk away. There were no plans to fill the pool until the day we were due to leave. Contacted Jet2 and they agreed to move us to another hotel a bit further away but with a functioning pool. I’ve never had this issue before. I’m not sure I’d book Greece in May again for this reason. If they advertise a pool then they should provide it.
Hello Carole. It's annoying but it's reality and even though we are experienced traveller's it caught us out. Some hotels were fully up and running Some like ours weren't. Same with bars and restaurants/tavernas even supermarkets so yeah it wouldn't put us off returning that time of year just double and treble check information before booking. On the subject of our hotel Metaxa Stelios is a lovely guy and he said water wouldn't be in the pool for another few days and even then you can't use the pool immediately. The joys of travelling 😃
@carolealdridge6321 sometimes the problems are down to a lack of communication between everyone involved Carole. In an ideal world the hotel should contact the holiday company whether it's jet2 or any others and communicate with the customers that have made the booking but as you probably know that doesn't happen haha. The original booking really shouldn't be allowed to go through unless it's Ready for business. We live and learn Carole and yeah had we known our hotel. The Metaxa wasn't ready we wouldn't of booked it either but hey that's life 😄

Thanks Yvonne , yeah it’s the best way to be , keep calm work through the situation together with the parties involved and the result should work out positively It was a bit of an emotional 24 hours We’ve rarely had a bad situation in all the years we have travelled so we are always prepared for a situation If anyone saw the situation which happened in Egypt that could off been easily resolved easily too but it resulted in chelle getting upset and annoyed which is not what either of us wanted

So did you book direct or through a tour operator? If yourself difficult but if through a tour operator they are to blame. No water in the pool and it not fenced off is very dangerous so you’ve got the tour operator with just that one fact.
It's been educational Lance. Years of travelling experience and there's something new to deal with haha. Tbf the online travel company sorted the problem out but yeah agree it shouldn't of even been available for bookings. All sorted now thanks. Transferred to a lovely hotel. Vlogs coming soon 👍
It was a lovely place Catherine , we passed it last time we were here , hence booking it We love the family ran type places of Greece On booking.com it’s £48 a night for 2 We paid £215 for hotel thru the company we used but it varies thru the season Stelios is a lovely guy aswell just a shame we didn’t get to experience it

Part of travel that you don’t expect, we travel a lot so hitting 1 issue /situation out of all the travels we had we just had to deal with it Fortunately we knew how to deal with where many others wouldn’t, We are not blaming anyone , hold anyone responsible or pulling anyone involved down as all involved were hit with the situation
I've been to kalmaki 5 times now and always had a lovely time. Some of the hotels I can recommend are Hotel Venus cretta Beach and the ionian Blue Hotel, so I'm sorry you had a bad experience.
Hotel looks nice so does pool pity it wasnt open but it is just the beginning of the season the flights have just started from scotland. Hotel should have told you when you booked in.

Sorry couldn’t watch earlier PnC …. I’m shocked to say the least ..Can’t believe there was no water in the pool never mind no bar or cafe open No hot water etc !! Also a red flag when it seemed there were no other guests? Unbelievable! You should have been informed about the facilities not opened or ready for guests at the time of booking As for the room … the nicest thing about it was the view …Hope you got a refund for the couple of nights you were there or at least they should have explained the situation when you checked in What a start to your holiday Glad you got sorted in the end xx
The owner was lovely, he does all he could to help us ,, he didn’t expect the situation to happen he tried all his best to support us We felt so sorry for him
THANKS AME We were only there the 1 night and all involved worked well to sort the problem out , we walked past the hotel yesterday (day 3) and it was being filled , ready for opening for the 10th as it takes 7 days for the water to settle etc , we hope to be able to pop by before we leave to show viewers what a lovely hotel this is when it’s up and running We in no way are pulling this hotel down not it’s actually worked out as a positive

@annemarieelton2069 yes it's definitely a communication issue between the online booking sites and the hotels. Bookings shouldn't be allowed until the hotels are ready to accept guests but its happened to us which is a bad thing but also a good thing because we've vlogged the experience so hopefully it will help others to avoid it. It's actually worked out well because ......well you will just have to wait for the next one 😜 😉 👍
@annemarieelton2069 we only actually booked it 2 weeks ago maybe they were all in line of been opening for the 1st of May or maybe it was a date error and the 1st and the 10th ,, either way we’re all adults and worked together got a happy ending for all of us xxx
Hi both. Sorry about your experience. We stayed here last July. It was adequate, but not the best place we have stayed in Kalamaki. We wouldn't stay there again, even though we had water in the pool! Having stayed in Kalamaki 17 times previously although different hotel and apartments we always enjoy the resort. We are trying another hotel back down the old strip this summer. To sum up though, don't visit Greek islands until late May. We hope it didn't put you off kalamaki.
Hello Paul. We absolutely love Greece 🇬🇷 and everything about the country and the people so despite the issues we had we would never be put off. These things happen and as you probably well know its the joys of travelling but yeah we love Kalamaki. Hotels/accommodation are a gamble as you don't know whether you are going to enjoy your stay or not until you stay yourself. The Metaxa we wouldn't consider again no but plenty of others we would haha 😄 👍
There's lots of really good hotels etc Heidi but we chose the Metaxa and what happened happened and can't rewind the clock haha. There was quite a few hotels etc not properly open so never mind these things happen
Well Sunqueen in an ideal world this shouldn't have been available to book but just shows that our UA-cam videos highlight these issues for the traveller to hopefully help others to avoid this potential problem 👍 But we can’t fault love holidays at all or metaxa , these things were out of both hands ,, maybe a breakdown in communication, Stelios was so full of apologies and offered all the help and support we needed ,
It's just one of those things Jimmy. Start of season and we got caught out by it .learning process for us. The Metaxa hotel is apparently a nice place when fully up to speed. Not in any way bringing it down but hey we live and learn

TBH the place is a 2* at best even if was all open ,i can't believe your still there but the fact the hotel hasn't said were not open why are you here says everything about them and the hotel ask him why is he taking bookings when he's not open
If you watch the video it’s all explained , metaxa is a great Greek family ran place to stay , it’s been there over 30 years , we chose to book there for many reasons But the vlog explains it all
I went to Greece last year for the first time (I’m 60yr old) . I’ve holidayed all over the world, long and short haul. I was so disappointed, their accommodation is awful if you do a package holiday. The 4* hotel we stayed at was like at maximum 2*, extremely basic like something from the 70s.
Hello Suze where in Greece were you? Star Ratings of hotels are different depending on the country. Understand what you mean about the decor of some hotels but on the same note its nice to have a bit of old style. Sometimes hotels can be too modern but up to date facilities
Also a 4 star in Greece is about a 2star in uk , different ratings ,, personally we love to see traditional accommodation ran by families over the modern hotel chain companies when we come places like kalamaki
We stayed in Kalamaki when we went to Zakinthos…….we stayed in The Hotel Tropical, it was lovely 🥰 What a good guy Stelios was 😊 He did his best to help in this shite situation 🫣🫣 So that hotel 🏨 they offered you to start with was in the middle of nowhere….missing the point there I think 🤔 We are going to Skiathos with Love Holidays, and have used them a lot. They were very good when we were supposed to be going to Kefalonia (then Covid happened) at getting us refunded etc ❤ Enjoy the rest of your trip 😊
Hello Kezza yes Stelios is a lovely man , offered to let us stay but it wasn’t ideal for us with the situation that week , we will deffo look at a return to stay there next visit later into season , just one of those unfortunate circumstances The travel company offered us accommodation way from where we wanted to be but all worked out in the end xx

Love Kalamaki I've been twice - but in August and September - stayed at Macedonia and Marelen 😎🇬🇷💙 I've done that walk to the beach many times 🍹🥗☀️

We have a soft spot for kalamaki it’s such a small compact village with plenty to keep the tourists busy
We used to stay at kalamaki beach hotel for years. I remember when they were building the Marylin !

Part of travel that you don’t expect, we travel a lot so hitting 1 issue /situation out of all the travels we had we just had to deal with it
Fortunately we knew how to deal with where many others wouldn’t,
We are not blaming anyone , hold anyone responsible or pulling anyone involved down as all involved were hit with the situation
I've been to kalmaki 5 times now and always had a lovely time. Some of the hotels I can recommend are Hotel Venus cretta Beach and the ionian Blue Hotel, so I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

Hotel looks nice so does pool pity it wasnt open but it is just the beginning of the season the flights have just started from scotland. Hotel should have told you when you booked in.

Agree but in reality it's a break down in communication between the online site and the hotel. Sorry couldn’t watch earlier PnC …. I’m shocked to say the least ..Can’t believe there was no water in the pool never mind no bar or cafe open No hot water etc !! Also a red flag when it seemed there were no other guests? Unbelievable! You should have been informed about the facilities not opened or ready for guests at the time of booking As for the room … the nicest thing about it was the view …Hope you got a refund for the couple of nights you were there or at least they should have explained the situation when you checked in What a start to your holiday Glad you got sorted in the end xx
The owner was lovely, he does all he could to help us ,, he didn’t expect the situation to happen he tried all his best to support us

THANKS AME We were only there the 1 night and all involved worked well to sort the problem out , we walked past the hotel yesterday (day 3) and it was being filled , ready for opening for the 10th as it takes 7 days for the water to settle etc , we hope to be able to pop by before we leave to show viewers what a lovely hotel this is when it’s up and running
We in no way are pulling this hotel down not it’s actually worked out as a positive

@annemarieelton2069 yes it's definitely a communication issue between the online booking sites and the hotels. Bookings shouldn't be allowed until the hotels are ready to accept guests but its happened to us which is a bad thing but also a good thing because we've vlogged the experience so hopefully it will help others to avoid it. It's actually worked out well because ......well you will just have to wait for the next one 😜 😉 👍
@annemarieelton2069 we only actually booked it 2 weeks ago maybe they were all in line of been opening for the 1st of May or maybe it was a date error and the 1st and the 10th ,, either way we’re all adults and worked together got a happy ending for all of us xxx

Hi both. Sorry about your experience. We stayed here last July. It was adequate, but not the best place we have stayed in Kalamaki. We wouldn't stay there again, even though we had water in the pool! Having stayed in Kalamaki 17 times previously although different hotel and apartments we always enjoy the resort. We are trying another hotel back down the old strip this summer. To sum up though, don't visit Greek islands until late May. We hope it didn't put you off kalamaki.
Hello Paul. We absolutely love Greece 🇬🇷 and everything about the country and the people so despite the issues we had we would never be put off. These things happen and as you probably well know its the joys of travelling but yeah we love Kalamaki. Hotels/accommodation are a gamble as you don't know whether you are going to enjoy your stay or not until you stay yourself. The Metaxa we wouldn't consider again no but plenty of others we would haha 😄 👍
U should have stayed at Costas Pool bar 🍹in Kalamaki, family run💕 foods, amazing ❤️ hotel & pool bar worth every penny ❤️💕🍹
There's lots of really good hotels etc Heidi but we chose the Metaxa and what happened happened and can't rewind the clock haha. There was quite a few hotels etc not properly open so never mind these things happen

Well Sunqueen in an ideal world this shouldn't have been available to book but just shows that our UA-cam videos highlight these issues for the traveller to hopefully help others to avoid this potential problem 👍
But we can’t fault love holidays at all or metaxa , these things were out of both hands ,, maybe a breakdown in communication, Stelios was so full of apologies and offered all the help and support we needed ,

british and too polite i would of left the same day
us bristish tend to be polite , we went out for food and pondered on the situation but as you see in the vlog we made a decion the next morning

It's just one of those things Jimmy. Start of season and we got caught out by it .learning process for us. The Metaxa hotel is apparently a nice place when fully up to speed. Not in any way bringing it down but hey we live and learn
They just want ya money the hotel
And we don't mind paying as long as the hotel is ready for guests STAR

Hi Terence , we take euros with us and we also have a revolut card which is great as it allows you to add money on to it , then when u spend it gives you the best rate

TBH the place is a 2* at best even if was all open ,i can't believe your still there but the fact the hotel hasn't said were not open why are you here says everything about them and the hotel ask him why is he taking bookings when he's not open
If you watch the video it’s all explained , metaxa is a great Greek family ran place to stay , it’s been there over 30 years , we chose to book there for many reasons
But the vlog explains it all
I went to Greece last year for the first time (I’m 60yr old) . I’ve holidayed all over the world, long and short haul. I was so disappointed, their accommodation is awful if you do a package holiday. The 4* hotel we stayed at was like at maximum 2*, extremely basic like something from the 70s.
Hello Suze where in Greece were you? Star Ratings of hotels are different depending on the country. Understand what you mean about the decor of some hotels but on the same note its nice to have a bit of old style. Sometimes hotels can be too modern but up to date facilities
Also a 4 star in Greece is about a 2star in uk , different ratings ,, personally we love to see traditional accommodation ran by families over the modern hotel chain companies when we come places like kalamaki

We stayed in Kalamaki when we went to Zakinthos…….we stayed in The Hotel Tropical, it was lovely 🥰 What a good guy Stelios was 😊 He did his best to help in this shite situation 🫣🫣 So that hotel 🏨 they offered you to start with was in the middle of nowhere….missing the point there I think 🤔 We are going to Skiathos with Love Holidays, and have used them a lot. They were very good when we were supposed to be going to Kefalonia (then Covid happened) at getting us refunded etc ❤ Enjoy the rest of your trip 😊
Hello Kezza yes Stelios is a lovely man , offered to let us stay but it wasn’t ideal for us with the situation that week , we will deffo look at a return to stay there next visit later into season , just one of those unfortunate circumstances
The travel company offered us accommodation way from where we wanted to be but all worked out in the end xx
