A few days ago I rode the Russian Sapsan train using a similar type of rolling stock. It wasn't in fact truly high-speed (the train never accelerated past 200 kmph even though the engineer announced that it would reach 250), but it was on time.
Glad you like our higher speed offering! The food offerings are awesome on our Sapsan and the prices are reasonable. Come back before 2030, when we open a real high speed line going upwards of 450 kph, taking only two hours from Moscow to St. Petersburg. They've started construction a couple years ago and are now developing the rolling stock.
@@warmike За два часа до Питера это уже быстрее чем самолётом. Удобно. Приехал утром, погулял, уехал вечером. Или живёшь в Питере, а ездишь на работу в Мск.
One tip, if you have a small lay over at Mannheim Hauptbahnhof, check out City Döner, which is right outside the train station. Great food and might have provided extra energy after a frustrating experience with Lufthansa and DB!
Now I do travel with DB quite a bit and delays are not unsual... But I rarely see something over 20-30 Minutes and I've never experienced something quite this catastrophic. With those sort of delays you would be entitled to at least 50% refund afaik. And when your ticket is booked to a specific train, you have the right to remove the "specific train limitation" and take whichever train you want. Also if you have a regional train booked for example and it becomes apparent you would be 20 Mins+ late with that one, you can buy an IC / ICE train ticket instead to make up the delay and get a full refund for the additonal cost. When you miss a connection due to delays and it's the last train, DB is required to pay your hotel. Worst I've heard about is that in similar case of last connection missed, someone had a Taxi bill from Germany to Spain (several thousand Euro) successfully refunded by DB, after they could not provide a Hotel. But that might be an Internet myth. Has been years ago, that I read that.
I wish this ticket was booked with DB. Instead, this was booked on DB via Lufthansa. And Lufthansa denied my claim for compensation. Understandable (if unfortunate) since it wasn't Lufthansa's fault.
i am in shock first of all, i have no idea how terrible deutch bahn ICE service could be lol and second, i dont understand why you have very little amount of subscribers, considering the quality of your videos, you deserve more! subbed :)
I lived for 21 years in Germany and pre reunification trains were held up because of the train coming from west Berlin, very slow. But since reunification there's no excuse. Most long distance trains were delayed. They're worse than British trains for punctuality, really. From a new subscriber.
As an experienced ICE traveller, I never expect to get on the right train, I just get on the next best train in the right direction. The Deutsche Bahn staff actually doesn't care, what train you use, once your planned train is delayed or cancelled. In your particular situation, I would've just taken the first train to Mannheim, since there is usually a really easy connection to another train to Basel. At 1:35 you can see a train to Stuttgart via Manheim leaving at 13:27 on the departure board, that you could've just taken. Nonetheless, the situation is absolutely unacceptable and especially for inexperienced travellers difficult to navigate.
I have also learned to expect disruptions on the German rails. I've recorded a few more videos on the ICE. The outbound trip was perfect, but then it all went south on the inbound trip. I plan to publish them later this year.
The Austrian OBB is so much better by the way in OBB business class its higher than first. And the Lounge or central railway stations better for my option.
Whaat?? You didn’t get a seat with your first class ticket? That’s insane. I can assure you that Deutsche Bahn is the worst ever. I dread the days I have to take an ICE here. I always thought Germans value punctuality but this never seems to be the case here. Germans really need to work totally on their commitment towards customers. Looks like they don’t really care about any kind of customer service. Even DHL is worse for its service. The worst part is that DHL staff are generally very arrogant and they taunt and haunt us.
if the ICE 4 you're riding is back, then try a good high speed train (ICE 1/BR 401)
I would love to try the different ICE variants. But I don't see a way to easily know which one is operating when booking.

I would rather take on time than high speed!

@@RussianSevereWeatherVideos всё равно лучший вариант между Петербургом и Москвой - это ночной поезд в купе. И по комфорту, и по деньгам.

Very informative Video
Thank you! Unfortunately my native Sweden is not much better. Will publish a not-so-great experience on the X2000 later this year.
Presumably EU261 applies for the delay caused by Lufthansa?
I tried it, but LH denied my claim twice already.

It's weird. German trains have a good reputation. Only outside Germany. People who use them regularly know what to expect.

Indeed, the difference between what people outside Germany think of Germany, and the reality, is quite stark.
Shank you for träveling wiss Deutsche Bahn 😂
It's all part of the experience!
