I started a Biology class today & I hate it. My professor is such an asshole! He doesn't teach...more like tells. He expects us to know everything (not knowing if we've already had exposure to the material or not). If we answer a question wrong, he makes us feel stupid. He didn't even introduce himself or give us an overview of the course first. He just came in starting talking about atoms. It was basically every woman for themselves in lab. He barely gave us any directions! I guess he expected us to just read the manual & that it'd be enough? This is the 2nd semester in a row where I've had a fucked up professor & I feel some kind of way! I don't want the stress/anxiety to get to me, but I feel like it already is! How can I learn & perform the way I need to so that I can pass without letting my feelings about my professor + his "teaching" style get in my way? Thanks in advance for the help. I also needed to vent, so thanks for that too...
Ive had similar experiences! I turn to UA-cam when I have professors like that. I’m not sure if this would help, but I read the textbooks and learn through the objectives outlined in each chapter. It seems to have worked in a variety of my classes. I read according to the class schedule to stay on track for exams. I find it very hard to focus in lectures, so I read and take my notes before I go to lecture.
Great video 🥰 … I have a question; how do you study? It’s a lot of information they give you DAILY! How do you retain all the information they give? How often do you study? I am having a hard time in school. I am currently taking Micro Lecture and Lab Immunohematology Lecture and Lab, Chemistry, and Coagulation. I didn’t get to choose how many classes I am taking this semester; my university did && I’m starting to feel stressed and overwhelmed. PLEASE HELP! I’m also buying the books and using the other resources you’ve mentioned. Thanks for this video ; it’s so helpful ❤️❤️❤️
After I read my textbooks, I spend time practicing test questions from books, quizlet, online, etc. It helps me figure out what I’m not understanding and then I’ll go back and read further. I also make flow charts in my notes to make connections between concepts. I watched alot of Medicosis Perfectionalis on youtube for Chem & Heme/Coag
Thank you Dominique for your videos and efforts, I just subscribed. I’m taking prereqs to MLT, and the Chem course is overloaded especially with this perfectionist Professor, I found myself I had to quit working in order to make it with this class. I just use my savings to live but it sucks I don’t know how to balance work with school it’s so tough. Thank you for sharing the resources that I will use later. I have a silly question, is there a software to learn typing fast, thank you so much ❤️
Definitely hang in there! Once you get through the rough chemistries, it shouldn’t be so bad after that. I get what you mean though, it is hard to study and work. Typing takes practice! Check out some UA-cam videos about it. There’s also some free online typing practice tests and games that can help you get better at it
This is a good video for encouragement. I hae already had my Bachelors in MLS now trying to study for ASCP boards exams whats the best review material for hematology and microbiology
"Rodak's Hematology" textbook is great for review of the theory. The "Textbook of Diagnostic Microbiology" by Mahon is also great for reviewing theory.
If you just need to review questions, the LabCe exam simulator is great. Its what I used to prepare for ASCP. I also used the ASCP BOC Book, its a book of questions similar to the exam style of the ASCP
I taught part time at a college and worked as a case investigator for the public health dept. I had my biology degree, so I was able to find jobs during Covid while going back to school. I’m hoping to go back to teaching at the college once I have my masters
@domilarae ok that is good you were able to continue working and able to use your biology degree. I am trying to get some ideas of my next steps while I am studying for the ASCP test while working as a MLS. Thank you for the information and good luck on your Masters degree journey!
@@domilarae yeah! I guess it’s all about everybody’s way of studying. Like a lot of people find LabCE and the polansky cards helpful, but I find them overwhelming. I feel like the questions I take out of the BOC book and makes the questions I got wrong into flash cards is what I found helpful.

Thank you guys for reaching out to me on IG @domilarae! Feel free to message me if you have any questions in the future!

Thank you for your answers
I think you're gonna be a great medical laboratory scientist
Thank you!!
I was on the fence but now I’ll definitely be buying the Polansky cards! Thanks
Thanks So much, looks very interesting learning how the human body works 😊☺️
Loved this vid! Looking forward to the next Q&A!

Hi, are you able to share the digital copy of the Harr MLS Review?
I brought my resources through Amazon kindle

What kind of clinical hours do you have? Do you have to do mornings and nights?
My clinical hours are 7a-3p each day
You mentioned you worked from home during the shutdown. What type of work did you do?

Have you looked into lab assistant/specimen processing? These jobs would be most flexible with mls studies!
Do you feel like the BOC book is helpful? That’s all I’m studying for the ascp!
The questions were helpful, but I didn’t feel the rationales went in depth enough

I used all three as resources! For questions I got wrong, I’d refer to the polansky cards to review and my textbooks. Good luck on your exam!
Can you please share digital copy of medical laboratory science review 5th edition
The 5th edition is still available on Amazon for purchase. I used a physical copy of the 6th edition, so I don’t have a digital copy to share
