Before you are done you may wish you had kept the Yukon wire harness, if for no other reason than as a pattern- the firewall is falling within a few inches of where it was, the dash is going to be about the same distance away. Will Dad be running any shop cams- in toto, this will be a "low bucks, high outcome" sort of build that fairly recent gear heads could tackle! FR PS; Happy New Year, to both of you setting out on this journey. I never got to know my father in that way- I think we both missed out on something, you don't need too! fr
Thanks for the comment! I cherish my dad as much as I can. We have always had a great relationship so I’m extremely lucky in all of that regard. As far as the harness we still have the Yukon. Nice project. I'm adapting a 59 Apache to my 2004 Tahoe chassis. I saved the front Floorplan and the firewall from the Tahoe to give me more leg and head room in the Apache cab. The floor and firewall of the 59 were chopped up from a previous conversion to a 2wd Trailblazer chassis.

I started a like project. I have a 57 GMC truck and was advised to transplant it onto a 1985 GMC truck. They do not match. The 57 frame is narrower than modern frames. Good luck. Thankfully I only paid $1,500 for the 1985 GMC. The only thing I kept was the 454BB.

Go buy a few metal electrical boxes at Home Depot and use the slugs to weld up all those firewall holes. Dipping them in muratic acid will remove the galvanizing.
Those beds are from 55 to 66 with some variation and step side beds up to the mid 70's will fit with minor mods, we put a bed off a 67 on dads 59 for several years until we got a 56 bed in better shape,
We have gone back and forth about paint or no paint. Still haven’t made our minds up yet. The first trip will prob be just like it is! Thanks for watching!
Looks great guys, How far from the bottom of the pinch welds under the door does the frame show under the body? Can you lower the body a couple inches with thinner cab mounts? Happy new Year!!
So we tried to lower the cab a little with different mounts. Unfortunately it throws all the gaps off with the front clip. Also we ended up with the front of our cab tilted down in the front which made the bottom gap of the front fenders all weird. (You can see this in the video actually) We have since fixed that and it will be explained in the future video. Also if you lower the cab it makes the box height stick up higher than we would like. We are going for a Napco build anyway so we like the height of the setup. If you really wanted to slam it I'm not sure if this is the right frame for it.
Looks like this is going to be an interesting build. Definitely be looking for new videos. Is there a way to keep the dash, firewall, and front of the floor and fit the 57 onto that? Would take some cutting lol. That kit made it sit so perfect on that chassis. So crazy that that part of the build went so smooth. Good luck
So we did go down that road. We ultimately decided that our cab was pretty decent they way it was. Plus we wanted to keep the original dash. I’m sure you totally could cut out the floor and firewall of the Tahoe but it would be a lot of work to match the cab up I feel like.
Hey Joffrey love the Yukon-57 marriage. I want to do a Yukon Denali -57. Got a question. Will the EZ conversion cab mound allow you to lower cab possibly two inches?
They way the EZ kit t is designed out of the box there is not really a way to lower it two inches. However... if you wanted to take matters into your own hands I'm sure you could. The hardest part would be getting the front clip to align correctly with the cab being lower. You would have to modify the front mount as well to drop the front clip two inches otherwise your gaps would be horrendous Also the box will end up being two inches higher on the back of the cab as well. If you really wanted a "lowered" like low low 57 you might want to look at a different frame. We were going for the Napco look so the height goes with our build.
Hmmm sounds intersting... I youst to have a 57 Chevy truck will follow your build but have to close the curtain to the driveway so my 03 Yukon cant see what I am watching on youtube...Thought i would not do that to him!!

Just found this project. I really like the use of the 2004 as a frame. I have a 55 2nd gen GMC and was looking into using the 04. One problem that seemed like a problem was the location of the tires under the 55 fenders. Was that a problem for you? Did you have to narrow the wheel width to get the newer frame under the 50's fenders?
As long as you have a 55 2nd gen or the "Task Force" build you should be fine. With our 57 we did not touch the wheel with from the stock Tahoe frame at all. Everything you see in our videos so far is a bone stock Yukon chassis. The only thing we did modify if you watch pt 2 is we did move the front brackets of our chassis kit forward to make room for the radiator.
Sweet project! My daughter and I were talking about this a few weeks ago. Where in the North East are you? I may be interested in some of your leftovers
it’s very very close to the same wheel base. The Tahoe is just about 1-2 inches longer I’d say. We compensated for this by just have a little bit larger gap between the cab and the box. I’d rather have the wheel look better in the wheel well and deal with a slightly larger box gap.
Great project! Love seeing these father/son builds. Keep up the good work. Can't believe how well the wheel base matches on those two vehicles.
Thanks for the comment and support! We were very surprised as well on how well the body sits on that frame. It looks so good!

Tukon same wheelbase as d 56?
it’s very very close to the same wheel base. The Tahoe is just about 1-2 inches longer I’d say. We compensated for this by just have a little bit larger gap between the cab and the box. I’d rather have the wheel look better in the wheel well and deal with a slightly larger box gap.

So I used a rust oleum rust converter for the first couple passes. Then I did a spray truck bed liner over top of that.

I'm doing a 56 in same fashion. Love your videos
