It's still going, just adding another series to the mix to keep things new and different (for both me as a creator and y'all). I've been working with a video journalist in Mumbai to capture original interviews. It's coming along nicely and should be published in the next two weeks!
Really impressive businesswoman and a great video. I joined my first CSA in the early 1990s and have been a member of many since. It’s important to note, though, that organic farming like this will not enable us to become sustainable as a planet. As George Monbiot explains in his recent book “Regenesis: Feeding the World Without Devouring the Planet”, farming like this simply does not scale to feeding more than a small wealthier minority of people. I wish it was otherwise but we need to look at the numbers.
I’ll have to check that book out- I appreciate the dialogue. I do believe that since there’s not enough farmers nor time, direct market farmers like us should grow bigger to feed more people, employ farmers, steward more acres. The more CSA & restaurant support we’ve gotten translates DIRECTLY to the bigger impact we’re able to have. Thanks for being a CSA member for so long- it truly does make a difference!!
This week, Dave Brandt, the farmer behind the "It ain't much, but it's honest work" passed away this past Sunday, aged 76. Coincidentally, this video game out. You must have been working on this while this happened. I like to think that this episode is a tribute to Dave. He did a lot of good for sustainable farming, too. Rest easy, Mr. Brandt.
An inadvertent tribute, indeed. Thanks for the comment, aku. More on Brandt: www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/fairfield-county/ohio-farmer-known-for-it-aint-much-but-its-honest-work-meme-dies-at-76/
Good short term gains of having the Organic certification. Probably not the best long term planetary results. Bio-Dynamic farming is organic, but uses methods like composting to improve soil health and produce healthy plants.
Love that organic food is becoming more mainstream. You could tell this farmer is scientifically minded when she referred to her unborn child as a fetus, which gave me a chuckle.
Me too, Zach. We just joined a CSA and try to buy organic whenever possible, but it was Emma's argument for a robust local food supply that really resonated with me.
“Local is the new normal” is what I said when COVID hit and I’d add local and organic! Shortening the food supply chain in my opinion is a matter of regional security, and adding to that, local and organic food tastes so dang good and makes you feel good it’s hard to argue with!
@@scvboy1yes, preserving water is a huge benefit! And our soils dry out very quickly, unlike clay types that retain water well. We also have, like most, a limited water supply plus large stretches of heat/drought so conserving water is very important.
@@moon_valley_farm What about using gasification for the plastic? Heat it up with some water in a zero oxygen environment and it turns into a mix of carbon monoxide, hydrogen gas, methane and carbon dioxide. It could even power a generator or provide heat in winter. It is viable because the type of plastic used for the bags is low density polyethylene. It contains no chlorine like polyvinyl chloride does. That stuff can turn into hydrochloric acid and destroy equipment. That's the downfall of trying to use the product for landfill waste or mixed plastics. However the farm does not use landfill waste and can control the inputs. There is a good video by CNBC called How Gasification Turns Waste Into Energy. It's where I learned about the technology.
Who can grow true Immortal fruit? Like the 3000 6000 9000 year Peaches? I have the stone the tree. And also Apples. Gold Apples also have the stone and the tree. Glad to also have a wheel of time. And some other stones too. Many think it is only myths.
Ideas like these will help improve our systems, but it's just currently not economical. We've already invested in some new ways to decrease plastic use, tractor passes and increase organic matter in our systems since recording this! :)
What happened to the megacities series? it was great!

The owner has an incredibly energy. I love watching people talk about something they enjoy and are passionate about.
Thank you so much!! 🥰
This is incredible. She's doing everything that conventional farmers tell me are too expensive to do.
Agriculture runs the world! This was so interesting to watch, so much respect to farmers.
Thank you! 🥰Farmers certainly feed the world and it wouldn’t be much fun without food I’d say! 👩🏼🌾
This video is criminally underrated. Good job!
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it!
🥰👩🏼🌾🙏
An excellent channel
I have so much respect and borderline jealousy for how capable this person is. Such a strong entrepreneur and leader
Yes, her managerial skills and team-oriented attitude are inspiring!
Gosh! She's a business genius. ❤️👏
I know, the amount of knowledge and experience Emma has gained in a little over a decade of farming is quite impressive.
Not only has she built a thriving, growing business, she understands the importance of supporting her employees. Other business owners, take note.
daww, thanks so much!
What a great idea, Bryce! I love your concept for this Good Work series! 👏
Thanks Robin!
Great well produced & presented video, I would love to see more of these

Organic farmer from indonesia🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🙏
I'm so glad you're doing this. But I don't live near you and I'm sure I can't afford this. And USDA Organic food is really Organic, its just a label.

Shame about the black plastic beds, would love to see a zero plastic approach- but imagine that would be very hard.
Yeah I agree but if it preserves fresh water I guess that’s a decent trade off
@@kenlehigh6363 we're forbidden to by organic standards! We're working on decreasing our use of it by replacing with straw mulch

I wonder how she can stay away from OF;) People with her will and character deserve all respect in the world.
Aww thank you! I had to look up what OF stood for, spending too much time in the fields I suppose! ;)
@@moon_valley_farmYou are special Emma
You're welcome! Don't look, stay in the fields;) It is a site where promiscuous persons sell their bad character.

iam very interesting for organic farming,, may i learn from you ?
ชอบเด็กๆได้มีส่วนร่วมและเรียนรู้ครับ
lot of plastic to throw away... surprised they can't try some kind of natural fiber mats instead

Cultivation and plastic, nice
you lost me at " growing fetus..."
🤷Hard to have perfect word choice in front of a camera! ;)
Yeah weird thing to say.
