Thank you for sharing, have a great day!!!
I always enjoy your videos. Your subtitles are very simple to understand n follow

Thank you so much
You want to avoid root rot. Having water there long term would cause rot, or mold.
He seems to be only referring to phalaenopsis and he is talking about flowering spikes or is he talking roots too since he put the moistened pads in between leaves ???
Banana powder sterilized - is used in flasking formulas ie cloning media to provide nutrients, particularly potassium, as they grow to encourage strong root growth. Other fruits, even mushrooms I think are used too. I don’t clone so not up on flasking but occasionally see the media and supplies.
But but…. The additional humidity for these types of orchids may be more the cause and they are in a very humid climate. Much higher than anyone has in their home. When I kept mine in my tiled bathroom, with a filled tub, it was like walking into the rain forest. And you could see the roots beginning to break in just a couple days (you see white spots appear). The issue is I can’t keep the house like a rain forest and I needed my bathroom. So off to winter camp and it wouldn’t hold 60 plants anyway. As soon as they come into the lower %, inside the house with heating, they retreat or don’t keep emerging . Same with AC.
This is why greenhouses, with humidifiers, temp control, ventilation and circulation will always grow better plants provided you follow basic nutrients and a few other health basics.
I mean are the multiple spikes coming because it’s the right time of the year there - climate and temps wise for blooming??? Or are the abundance of roots due to the additional potassium with a bit of other minerals. You know people concentrate on all these bloom boosters on one side of the path, and then there are the MSU folks who say to use almost no potassium or phosphorus. That said, I have never seen a commercial Greenhouse who doesn’t use these at some point to grow great plants. Maybe their container doesn’t say bloom booster, but it’s providing the same nutrients. Myself, I don’t buy the exclusive use of the 12-1-1 etc formulas. I tried it for 18 months and saw significant decline in roots and general health. Don’t need what some bloom boosters provide but at least a balanced 20-20-20 or 14-14-14 is good. That said, I do use a 12-1-1 but for a different reason and that’s because it’s 10% calcium, 3% magnesium, and all the necessary trace minerals the plants need. It gives me a good base especially for my hanging Vandas which are watered twice a day most of the summer for sure, and sometimes 3x day in mid July to mid August. This way I know they get their basics at 25 ppm per day and I fill in the extra. Mine are on RO and rain water so it’s important I feed them everything they need. And if we get lots of rain, the Vandas are exposed and can be depleted of nutrients so they get extra at some times ie might boost to 35 ppm. And then my cattleyas and phals are under cover so not so exposed to rain, but they like the Vandas are heavy feeders too. But they get additional monthly or every other month feed (a bloom booster if you want to call it that it’s low nitrogen, but with a bit more phosphorus and potassium and essentials to cover getting stronger, larger blooms and roots. Without lots of strong roots, plants limp along and you will never know their true potential in bloom numbers, size and color. If you are only getting roots on the new growth, you have an issue. You don’t want to over feed and burn your plants or waste nutrients but under feeding won’t help them become what you see at shows. But keep in mind whatever you feed your plants end up one of two places - maybe both. Either down the drain, and eventually out to the river, or down on the ground and into the groundwater - eventually reaching creeks, streams, rivers, bay and into the ocean. Along the way, they end up most likely unnecessarily into people’s well systems in their personal water for them or their children, or into their livestock’s water. And they won’t know it unless they go to a lot of expensive constantly testing because it will change on a daily basis.
Some of the people who recommend 12-1-1 complete feed etc for example - are also using kelp like Kelpak as supplement- that’s good bit of potassium right there. And kelp has more than just potassium - it’s full of good minerals from the sea. I also use a once a month or every other month plain Epson salt spray, 1 tablespoon per gallon.
I can get mine to do this root wise by just spraying with KelpMax or soaking once a month supplemented with Hormex root booster as directed (not the rotting powder, but their liquid root booster) and if humidity is higher. And I get more spikes if the cooling period is high 50-low 60s after summer temps. Doesn’t take but a couple weeks as the night temps are going slowly going down anyway. And like he has I have lots of root tips again it’s the humidity levels. I can get low 50s by keeping a kettle of water going in the kitchen from morning to late evening then too much condensation on the windows. Have to let it dry off. Need to buy a humidifier to keep it a consistent mid-high 40s all day. But was holding off since working on getting a greenhouse or a enclosure for hot tub for the winter which can hold the orchids too. And will need a bigger unit to humidify so no since buying a temporary fix. In fact, the hot tub can provide some of the humidity but mostly it will be covered to prevent over condensation or will have disease even with fans going. Want 50-60% not 100% ie the rain forest.
I question the peels - maybe boil the peels and garlic to sterilize mixture. But raw peels or banana itself make me think of fungus getting started not to mention drawing ants, roaches, etc. even wasps if outside due to high sugar content.
Just keep some of this in mind. Where he is growing and where you are growing. Mit makes a huge difference to be in wet steamy hot India, Taiwan, Thailand, etc climates vs Arizona or even Maryland or Florida. Florida is steamy sometimes but it’s not Southeast Asia in their wet season and hot too.
