My English grandparents knew of certain "unsavory" tales which originated along the borders of England and Scotland. My grandparents also told me about the beautiful female vampire of Irish folklore -- The Dearg-Due. Many thanks, Eerie Edinburgh, for this exquisitely creepy tale.
@@eerieedinburgh It's very possible that Bram Stoker knew of the tale of the Dearg-Due. That beautiful vampire was supposed to have long red hair. Unless I'm mistaken, the character "Lucy" in Stoker's "Dracula" had long red hair. I heard once of a beautiful female vampire of Scottish lore. I can't recall the name of that preternatural creature. Many thanks! Cheers! -- W --
I am so glad I came across your channel .. I hear of things I've never heard about before . Thank you for all the effort you put into producing these videos ..
Thank You for another excellent video . As a Scottish person ( Clan Robertson) , I have always been interested in the Clan rivalry . Many years ago I worked with a colleague who was half Apachie ( hope I spelled that correctly ) . He explained to me that many of the Native American tribes had long rivalries going back centuries . 😮 Human nature is complicated I guess .
I'm an American mutt. Some clan Armstrong, also some Nez Perce (another native tribe) among others. You were close: Apache is pronounced as you spelled it.
I am an Irish and Scottish Smith, with Cornish and Danish ancestry. I am told that Smiths existed in every clan, but this has been disputed by a Scottish friend who claims Smiths are actually Clan McGowan. I know this isn't an ancestry site, but curious if anyone knows what's right off hand.....?
@@ktswandering Don't know why my reply to you failed to post 🤔 Maybe it will at some point . Google the question about the origin of the name Smith . Interesting stuff ! You might be amazed . You folks have been around for a very long time and have a bit of magical history associated with your name . Scottish person here 👋❤️🏴And yes your Scottish friend is pretty accurate . You are a member of a Clan , 👍👌🥂
Another excellent recount of good creepy fun! Your delivery is really effective in setting the mood. On a semi-related note, have you ever read George MacDonald Fraser's, "Steel Bonnets"? It is a thorough and really exciting history of the border clashes. Ah, those zany Elliotts and Armstrongs!! LOL! And if you want to get a really good laugh, you should try his quite fanciful (but largely historically accurate), "The Reavers." Definitely for adults only! Cheers from Canada!
Thank you and i haven't but really growing to appreciate the history of the Borders the more i learn, i'ce always been drawn north but i also need to look south. I'll give these a wee go, thank you.
@@eerieedinburgh You are doing us Borderers proud with putting are area on the map so thank you. People forget that the Borders is steeped in just as much and maybe arguably more history as much as any other area on f Scotland.
Thanks Kellie. I'm learning more about the borders as i go. I've always naturally been drawn to Edinburgh and the Highlands, but there is soooo much history south of me 👍🏻
I have only recently found your wonderful channel. Your descriptions of borderlands rivalry, violence, and feuds reminds me of my home here in Appalachia. I wonder if people from that region settled here?
I remember when I'd be at least in the first five to comment. 😂 My wife is a Geordie. A Hedley. Her family were border reevers. She's a proud woman. Still love your work mate. 👍😊
@eerieedinburgh I agree. I'm from the Midlands although I've moved around a bit. I'm near Durham and happy to be there. Beautiful wife has a lovely accent. One of the reasons I fell for her. Keep up the quality content. You are one of my treats! 😄👍
Seeing the reanimated corpse of your former boyfriend in the dead of night? Nope, absolutely not, no thank you! Brilliant story, definitely adding Melrose Abbey to my list of places to visit.
I am sure it was Melrose Abbey I visited many years ago with my mum and brothers. Both she and I saw a tall figure in one corner who seemed oblivious to those around. She and I briefly discussed this as we left and we overheard someone else behind us say the place was supposed to have a ghost, well that made us "smartly" walk out. Now, it may have just been some random innocent guy but then again... 😱
hi eerie, thank you I love this video. we went to melrose and dryburgh abbeys last week while we stayed in duns and they are both absolutely beautiful. fallen in love with the borders area and will go back to explore some more. I kinda felt our hotel in duns may have a spirit or 2 of its own, its lovely but has a certain feeling in one area.
@eerieedinburgh yes of course, it's the white swan hotel in duns. I've searched and searched and couldn't find anything. it is fairly old and the staff said there are lots of stories. it has a beautiful galleried staircase and landing and the stairs, especially at the bottom had the hairs in my neck standing up.
@eerieedinburgh a crying child rings a bell. to be specific I was aware and don't always get this but it was a man at the bottom of the stairs and I felt he is quite authoritative and not nasty but there to do a job. I felt like the whole staircase is "his" area and he was there to show us the way but no more, he's not overly friendly.
Thanks for this amazing account, honestly hadn't heard of it before now.👏
That's a new story to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it . Roll on the next one 😊
Thank you, glad you liked. I'll try and get one out next weekend 😊

Is 'hunderprest' Anglo-saxon, or Scotts? This was an entirely new story to me! Thank you.
Don't quote me on this, but i think it's Germanic.
It did to me, but then Caucer sounds quite Germanic, too.@@eerieedinburgh
This has the sound of a tale told to naughty children, to get them to attend church and Sunday School.
Not bad story but you can tell they have added bits to the story .I mean the idea of a vampire turning to a bat comes from Dracula.
Lack of strong central government, spoken like a true Scotsman 😂
