I will never understand why this isn't as widely watched as it should be. I watched it from it's premiere and if anybody asks for a show to watch Black Sails is what I suggest. The fact that it had an end point from the beginning made for a great script/story.

Jeez I completely agree! I always do the same with my friends asking advice: "Hei, which tv show in your opinion should I wa..." "BLACK SAILS YOU DUMB! GO AND WATCH IT IMMEDIATELY!". So underrated that hurts my heart
Most likely because it was on Starz and not HBO or one of them big networks.
Silver and Flint fighting on the island had a Obi Wan/Anakin on Mustafar feel to it.

Even after all this time it still amazes me how good this episode is. Black Sails was a little hit and miss for me at times but this episode is honestly flawless.
That reaction managed to be everything I had hoped it to be and more. "Might be the best episode in the history of TV." - Look how far we've come. I love this show, and I love how much the crew loves it. I completely agree with Eric, it's the characters and their journeys that drag you in, which is why it hurts so much every time they end up crossing each other. It's just so well written.
Anyway, first things first. A moment of silence. R.I.P. Joji the Samurai pirate. R.I.P. De Groot who's never wrong. R.I.P. Dooley who was with Flint until the very end. And finally, R.I.P The Walrus (and a lot of the crew) - a more stubborn ship we've never known. (Also, R.I.P. my heart which those flashback scenes managed to stab several times.)
Of course, amidst all the chaos, the relationship between Flint and Silver defines this episode (and most of the show) - but there are some other stellar moments: The discussion between Madi and Rogers with Eleanor knitting is amazing, and Madi is fantastic and her speech gives me goosebumps. It's so chilling but great The way the show compares her and Flint is amazing and I love it. She really is just like Flint in so many ways ("He fell in love with Flint" says Rick about Silver and Madi and I honestly don't think that's so far off. Silver clearly has a type. :P). I love how she went from distrustful of Flint to so closely aligned with him, and the combo of Silver, Flint and Madi is all I ever wanted. The three of them complete each other so well (and are clearly very destructive when separated). Even Silver pointed out a few episodes ago about how she sounded like Flint, and she rightfully wondered why that would be a bad thing.
I love Jack to bits and I want to thank him for bringing some much needed levity to this episode. Billy continues to be THE WORST but at least he spared poor Ben Gunn. I love how angry you all are with him, brandishing a knife. In general, the reactions just don't stop this episode. It must have been hell cutting down to 10 minutes.
Now, onto Flint and Silver. Because it all always comes down to Flint and Silver. Those flashback-scenes still get me. The way the episode scatters them throughout the episode, informing us of their relationship and what it's building to. It breaks my heart but it's amazing all the same. What also breaks my heart? The allusions we get to Silver's backstory. Because whatever happened to him was obviously tragic and horrible in a sense that he can't put any meaning to it, not in the way Flint can to his own tragedies. Silver clearly sees no point or any motivation to be drawn from that. I believe him when he says that he can't talk about it. It's more than doesn't want to, or that he doesn't trust Flint. And I think, even without telling us exactly what that backstory is, it gives us a better understanding of it. And of course, the entire episode is framed with their friendship - just to break our hearts even more when they fight. Flint killing Dooley when he tries to kill Silver is always such a shock and the reaction to it went down just about as I'd expect. Oh, Silver. He can't see past what's happening right now, but Flint clearly sees him as more than another pawn, and Silver can't see it. And I think you're on to something that whatever issues he has is probably rooted in that backstory he won't talk about.
But the pain they both portray so well at the thought of harming the other, or the very concept of fighting. Silver is angry, but he's clearly hurting as well (for Madi as well as for Flint). Flint is determined, but not so determined that he won't shoot Dooley if it means saving Silver, even at this stage. And it is a tragedy. Your reactions illustrates the frustration about it so very well, because we root for both these characters, we like both these characters. Eric's "YOU FUCKS! YOU TITANS! YOU CAPTAINS" is funny, but I also totally get it.
Hey, I gotta catch up on all the videos I didn't leave essays in the comments of. But I really could talk about Black Sails forever, so I'm not too sorry about it. Anyway, done for now. Going to rewatch the finale in preparation. I don't want these reactions to end!! D:

Its a crime how underrated this show is 😮💨😮💨. Its easily in my top 5 fav.
The whole episode was absolutely breath taking. MadixRogers confrontation; Elenors needles underscoring it like a drumbeat to war, reminiscent of FlintxSilvers sword fighting practice.., till Madi gave that final unavoidable truth, and it sounded like a gilloutine falling. Tears of grief sitting in his eyes the whole time, then physically he became like stone.. whoa. The 3 of them could be unstoppable. Both men know that she is the key. Exceptional writing. We so need a movie.. like we had for Firefly.
The fight between Flint and Joji may not have looked like the 'best' fight , but I kind of think that's part of why it was as good as it was. It didn't look perfectly choreographed, but it did look realistic and visceral. That coupled with the lack of the music really sold it as an incredible, really tangible duel.

2 incredible episodes... shit is so emotional and amazing at the same time - gonna be depressed after you finish the show 😢 after rewatching with these reactions, it's definitely my fav show!

This is my favourite reaction you guys have ever done. I'm so glad all five of you went on this ride together. I knew you'd love it but even I didn't know you'd love it this much. I said last week these episodes would be some of the best you've ever seen on tv and turns out you thought exactly that XD

The show is much more fun if you know Treasure Island. They don't seem to know who Ben Gunn is for example (seemed to think he'd die). He gets a lfair share of screen time here because he is a TI character and it is all quite nicely done, how he only knows Flint and Silver from afar and what kind of information he'd have about what happened. Also already afraid of Skelleton Island, poor boy. Gotta love that show.

The guy who let Billy go is Ben Gunn. They met him on the island when they were prisoners. He's the one in Treasure Island who is marooned on Skeleton Island.

So many great moments in this episode that I was waiting for their reactions to. Samurai/Flint fight, Silver/Flint fight, and of course DeGroot's death.
I hope the poll to replace this only has other good live action shows. I like their anime reactions, but anime tend to dominate the polls, and they already have enough good anime reactions right now. Make it poll of only good live action, like The Expanse, Breaking Bad, or even Fringe

Silver attacked Flint after he shot Dooley because, in doing so, he proved Silver's point. They are all pawns to him, disposable. And one day, despite their affection, if he felt he had to, he'd kill Silver too.

Completely wrong. He'd never kill Silver and he well and proved that. If they were all pawns, Silver turned out to be a pretty bad one. He'd never kill Miranda or Thomas either. What matters most to Flint is people, just very specific, very few people. And no, Gates was obviously never on that list.

When this show first came out I told everyone that the character development and dialogue rivals that of GoT but because it was filmed in Cape Town none of them thought that it would be any good. Being shown on Starz probably didn't give it the audience that it deserved.

The weapons back then had no rifling, so even a shot at 10 ft had a high chance of missing. Also during that time, unless it was well maintain they would back fire alot and break people hands. I would say the guy running to flint and didnt shoot problem was told take him alive for the info
The most well written show since Deadwood or The Wire. Other have come close. I don't think any have surpassed Black Sails.

I loved the finale of this show and i almost never like series finales....although i also liked Spartacus and Battlestar Galactica finales which i dont think were universally liked...so not sure if i have best standards...at least its all better than Dexter

Madi gets it? Most people would do what Silver is doing. Love for a romantic partner, a child, a parent, a sibling or a very close friend is more important to the majority of human beings than any political cause. I know that a lot you are claiming that Madi's refusal to think about Silver's safety is correct. Maybe, but I don't think it's normal.
It’s not that she doesn’t consider his safety, it’s that she is willing to give up her own personal desires for the cause. Madi loves Silver, that is extremely clear based on the show. If she could guarantee his safety in any other way we can assume she would. But Madi has also literally been raised to be a Queen to her people to ex-slaves, and she is a visionary like Flint. She was raised to think of the needs of others over her own. Her war is with slavery and the injustice her people have faced. Madi gets that her desire to live or for a life with Silver is not above that. Flint is queer and Madi is black. Silver does not understand the level of passion they have for the war because he doesn’t relate to them and he is a selfish person. Madi gets it because it’s for the cause and it’s ultimately a selfless action born of the desire for change.

If the argument is that it’s immoral because it’s not normal, then that’s fine. But it being normal or not doesn’t really matter.

I agree with Eric on this one. This show overall, and especially this last season, was a bit hit and miss for me, but this episode was a goddamn masterpiece

I felt nothing for Rogers since he first appeared on this show. He and Eleanor's relationship seemed fake initially, just for her to stay alive and no matter what we read in her diary still don't feel anything.

Have you seen Tom Hardy's Taboo? Another show I love that is somewhat similar to Black Sails and Turn. Only one season, but you might like it if you like those other two.

He’s one of the boys, simple as that lol
Flint cares about Flint. No one else and nothing else. He is so consumed by revenge he does not care who or what has to burn to get what he wants. If he had to burn that whole island of slaves to hurt the British he would light that match without a second thought. Even guys like the samuria who had been loyale to Flint from the start finally saw Flint did not care about him or any of the crew and only cared about himself. Flint was always going to lose his "war" because he was just too focused on revenge.
Flint does *not* only care about himself, the fact you think that tells me you don't understand the character at all.
