    To know what you are, you must first investigate and know what you are not. Discover all that you are not-body, feelings, thoughts, time, space, this or that-nothing, concrete or abstract, which you perceive can be you. The very act of perceiving shows that you are not what you perceive. The clearer you understand that, on the level of mind, the real you can only be described in negative terms, the quicker you will come to the end of your search and realize that you are the limitless being.

    What dies when physical body dies? Ego. Thus fear of death makes sense and is understandable and relatable. And thus sympathy can be afforded to self and others because ego’s inevitable “not being” is not a pleasant thought and fact to be reconciled.
    What is interesting (to put it very mildly) is it is possible for ego to “die” in a sense in this physical lifetime. This seems to be what is called enlightenment. Though ego never really dies (you don’t necessarily want it to because ego does serve a useful purpose), consciousness breaks free of ego and includes and extends beyond it. You are released from identifying as and knowing only ego. Freedom.
    It is a beautiful and freeing phenomenon when experienced. And understand too this can only be directly experienced to be known. Words and description are useful but ultimately can only describe it though never are it. With this “it” being awakening and waking up to a world and reality that is beyond ego’s comprehension.
    Said another way, words and books from sages, guides and gurus are useful but they pale in comparison to the real thing. There is no need to live joyously and vicariously through them when it is possible for you to know directly. It is so exciting. This gift is available to us all. Now. Take heart and settle in peace my fellow travelers because know/trust you will wake up when you’re ready to wake up as what quietly resides within you pulls you on and yearns to know Itself.
    Exciting times to be able to share and discuss this so freely.

    The only thing that is appearing to stop you from enlightenment/self-realization/eternal life/knowing yourself to be unconditional love is identification with thoughts, emotions, sensations, perceptions and experiences instead of being aware of being aware and knowing yourself to be that unconditional love pure consciousness in which all thoughts, emotions, sensations, perceptions and experiences appear but are not inherently one with you; they are an expression of unconditional love; you are that infinite that is expressing itself as suffering/pleasure but inherently you are neither; you are that nothing/unconditional love/pure consciousness in which they are appear and by which they are perceived;
    Suffering/pleasure comes and goes; there is an awareness that is aware of them coming and going; that you are; remember and know what you are; never identify with anything that is appearing within you; since it appears within you; it can't be you; you are that in which it appears. When you abide as that in which it appears instead of identifying; nothing has a grip on you; if anything comes; it quickly goes; like clouds passing; only if you identify as a cloud then it will appear as if the cloud is here for longer than it is originally supposed to; if you simply rest as the awareness and do not identify; it will quickly dissolve; be unconditional love by being aware of being aware; this is the highest; this is what you are seeking in absolutely everything else; you are seeking yourself; you are seeking unconditional love; but you are looking outside of yourself; instead of being aware that you already are unconditional love. Love love

    Summarising all of rupert’s teachings:
    When you ask yourself the question “am i aware”...you refer to an objective-quality less experience of being aware and a thought rises “yes”. If you stay with that experience after the thought (being aware of being aware),awareness gradually ,in time ,loses its limitations and the true nature of awareness will shine as it is .This process is called self abidance.

    Wow! What he says about his awareness of his body is very much what Douglas Harding pointed out. We don't experience ourselves as being an embodied entity... We experience ourselves as the space in which the body appears. This is such a beautiful and profound explanation of how death of the body is experienced from the Self. What a gift a body is, the perfect tool for self realisation.

    It feels that after the desolation of the body or the delocalization as he refer to it - consciousness is capable to experience this physical reality and any other reality since they are made of the same consciousness !
    I was experiencing this reality as a dream and now I’m experiencing it from a local point we call a body !
    There is no need to remain in this physical reality after you know that you as consciousness are unlimited, while you are always part of any physical reality i! Simply you are home to your unlimited self !
    The attachment to this is holding the expansion and you are the expanse itself

    I get it completely, krishnamurti expanded on this by saying he who is free from the known, when he dies, he does not add to the river of consciousness that makes up the majority of human kind.. In other words those ripples that remain in the river after a certain character dies, are the remains of a person who lived and died in the river, those ripples will "reincarnate" to make a new character "whorl" but had the that person lived a life that is free from the know, then when his physical body dies, he will not add any ripple to the river of consciousness that makes up all humankind.

    But he's not answering the question. The lady asks if she will still experience after her body dies, not will she experience her body! I would love to ask why we experience nothing in deep sleep. Why does the sleeping mind not give way to the experience of consciousness? Surely coniousness must be conscious? It would be easy to say that the mind creates consciousness and therefore of course nothing is happening when the mind sleeps. But all this teaching leads us to know that the mind and consciousness are two different things. Does the mind /ego entrap consciousness and being asleep not allow it to experience. When after death, of the mind and ego, along with the body, we shall be conscious of consciousness?

      To anyone curious about the answer: what happens when the body dies in a dream? Another dream appears, either another dream in the "dream state" or the "waking state" which is literally just another dream replaces it. The same way when the "waking state" that is merely another dream "ends" by the body dying; you remain conscious and another appearance takes place in you.

    • @GeertMeertens
      @GeertMeertens 3 роки тому +2

      Consciousness can only experience while dreaming, dorothy.
      Therefore there is no experience in deep sleep.
      In all dreams there is the experience of an 'I' and an outside world.
      Even in the collective dream we call 'real life'
      Both the I and the outside world seem real until you wake up.
      Both disappear again when you fall asleep.

    • @guildersbd
      @guildersbd 3 роки тому +4

      Rupert has quite a few videos on "what happens in deep sleep" that you can search for. I think Rupert said that we need our body-mind system to experience anything, therefore it is not possible for us to experience anything only with the mind after the body dies. But in my opinion nobody really knows what happens after the body dies. I try not to think too much about it because there's no point thinking about the unknowable.

    • @carlavela7106
      @carlavela7106 3 роки тому +1

      I also believe that it is not possible to know what will really happen when the body dies.
      But it is possible that that part of the "awakened" Consciousness is now able to fully experience itself without having to contract and then fall into an apparent sleep, to enjoy the Creation.
      So in a soul that has not achieved self-realization, it is possible that the non-transcended mental tendencies (preconceived ideas), the eddies that remained would join with the remains of other eddies that remained in the river of Consciousness, to form another character, and so on, until these remaining tendencies can been transcended.

    • @carlavela7106
      @carlavela7106 3 роки тому +4

      And about the deep sleep.....
      I heard another teacher say .... that in deep sleep nothing is experienced .... because Consciousness "lowers the curtain of the cinema" to allow the body to recover from the exhausting mental chatter ... because if not the body can get sick or maybe madness. It is like a security and protection system for the body.

    They will indeed expand back and rapidly and so that "you" are not there anymore. A near death experience feels like that (seizures also sometimes) and in these "experiences" even though it may seem arbitrarily long, from the perspective of other localisations, it is incredibly short. The localisation is definitely gone and we know the energy dissipates also. It's possible pockets are energy are clumped together but the information content in them is minimal.

  • @momsazombie1

    Rupert, you ignored her important question about perception. If you take my eyes out I will cease seeing the world. If you remove my ears I will cease hearing the world. In dreams I will continue to hear and see but if you crush my brain.....that will cease too. If we really stick to experience then the body is required for any experience to be known. But this is NOT materialism. Matter, when seen as vibration, can still be ‘outside of consciousness’ if consciousness is seen as its superposition eg. the smaller ripples on the larger waves of the sea. The key is to see that, like the waves, ‘matter’ is an activity. When this activity becomes such that it can, through the mind-projected image of spacetime, know itself, then (from an imagined external point of view) consciousness arises. From consciousness’ point of view, the only real point of view, it never arises or disappears - if it had disappeared and it knew it had, it would still be present! The vibrational level of matter is known in consciousness but only as an image, a copy, a limitation, an illusion. Its truth is not directly observable because conscious spacetime occupies another order of reality.

  • @alivation

    Well bollocks I say. His assertion that there is nothing to suggest that the internal experience/mind comes to an abrupt end I would say flys in the face of both first person and third person experience. Take anaesthesia, there can be the experience of the awareness contracting and diminishing and then becoming aware again at a future time and place. What would the 1st person experience be in the case, from a 3rd person perspective, of the body dying?
    Ditto for sleep. From a 1st person perspective there is awareness with the mind drifting into some changed state, (missing time - not really since there is no awareness), then awareness of the mind being in some other internal state becoming more expanded or external (waking). While from a 3rd person perspective a person is seen to be in a deep dreamless sleep, from a 1st person perspective there is no experience at all.
    How do these observations not indicate that there can be an abrupt end to consciousness/awareness?
    The people making these assertions about the continuation of consciousness, imo, are not being observationally or intellectually honest. They are creating a mental fabrication based on their desire/need to feel they will not cease to exist.
    The truth is we can’t know. But if I can see no direct evidence for continuation from a 1st or 3rd person perspective then (unless I am blind to my own 1st person experience and to my own 3rd person perspective) it cannot be as they suggest. Otherwise it would be an intrinsically observable fact to all 1st person experience, and it is not.
    It’s only when you do mental gymnastics on your 1st person experience that you can come up with some post death continuation.
    This is one of my main objections to Richard Lang’s (the Headless Way) take on consciousness continuing or “existing in its own realm”.
    It’s not that consciousness exists in its own realm, it’s that everything exists within the realm of consciousness. But this says nothing about the origin or continuation of consciousness. For that we must rely on our 3rd person perspective and I contend that perspective gives every indication that consciousness abruptly ends on brain death.
    I like the simple observation that I have been dead prior to my birth since the universe began and I have no experience of that state. So why would it be any different in the future when I am dead?

      To have this experience is possible to have while living. If you heard of the concept of ego death it's a kin to this. "You" don't go away even if your conception of yourself gets shattered. That it is the "broader sense of the mind" one is experiencing in this state seem to be a fair description to me.
      Naturally, no one can be sure that physical death is going to give the experience of an ego death, but I would be fairly surprised if it didn't..

    Some Islamic Mystical people ( you might know them as Sofis) have a simile that the ONE is like the ocean and human beings are like the waves created by the ocean. We are there for some time, then slowly go back to the ocean, some are higher/longer waves, some smaller/ shorter one, but no matter, eventually we all will join the ocean anyway.

    I am open to new understanding ... but even if we don't have awareness of all the body, the blood flows and the organs function. It is the same to say that outside a closed door there is nothing, or that everything is " me ". Everything we can understand about awareness now depends on the fact that we are alive, how can we really know death ?
    When I fall deeply asleep it's a void period, and yet my body is alive.
    I have the sensation that awareness is now another name for god.

    Even though my experience of body mind is in line with consciousness only model, but still there are times when there is some confusion because, it seems like body mind is not just an objective experience in awareness, as laws of matter seem to apply to body mind, like we need food for it, protect it, we exercise, there is pain and cause of pain, when it gets hurt we take medicines there's surgery.

      The Buddha Teaches that what we term as myself/ person/ living being/ animal / ghost is the combination of 2 different flows that are intricately intertwined.
      1. The matter.. ( eg The tangible physical form of humans / animals which one may term as " body". It has to be fed, exercised, protected from elements , cleaned, treated when sick, but still "The fathom long body" is always aging, and will perish on death. In pali language it's called Rupa)
      2. The mind..In pali, called Nama. ( The intangible / arupa component of a living being which does the thinking, conceptualising,feels pain, comes up with emotions, consciousness.
      At death the 2 will disintegrate. The particles of the dead body will integrate with the elements of the nature. The mind flow ( english: consciousness, pali: Vinnana) would continue with a new formation of " body" , as derived by the karmic destiny of the " person who died" .
      At other places , the classification is not as nama- rupa, but as 5 Aggregates :
      1. Rupa ( body, formed by the physical elements)
      2. Vedana ( feelings of pain, pleasure etc)
      3. Sanna (perceptions of colour, sound, taste, bodily sensations etc)
      4. Sankhara ( karmic actions)
      5. Vinnana ( consciousness)

    Well we don't all experience life like this. At the end of the day the body dies and you die. There is no longer a you! End of story! The rest is just conceptual. And you can define 'you' however you like. It makes no difference.The nearest we're going to understand death is when we are under general anaesthetic. When we come around who can recall where they've been? That's a partial death. We all want to know what comes after death when happiness is only found in what came before it.

    Dark on its own is only dark. Light on its own is only light... when you have perspectives you can see differences. Like white and black... Consciousness is totality dividing itself, experiencing itself as one totality divided. If you were playing a game with infinite cheat codes that would be boring, wouldn't you want to limit yourself to have a challenge to have some fun? If you could create anything why wouldn't you trick yourself into believing you were a human being experiencing a limited life. How fun

    Blessings, realize that we are in eternity currently and we all share one consciousness. It is governed by the super consciousness "God" which is the all seeing eye aka "the Omnipresent ONE". It is certain that many will go to a place of peace and Love and others a place of torment, fear, and burning anguish from within, and as a man has done it shall be done unto him in that place until all debts are paid in full. Then, once a person has suffered in the same way he has caused suffering on others in his or her lifetime her or she is released from bonds and reborn. This is found in scripture where Messiah spoke about the king and the debtor when He said since the debtor that was forgiven showed no mercy to his debtor he then went to a place where he will suffer until all is paid in full. Now, since the sufferer only had roughly around 100 years to live his or her life and maybe chose to do good or evil for however long they chose to, they will be served the same evils for the same amount of time then he or she will be born again. To start over in a new body but same soul since God is eternal, our souls are His and our souls are eternal as well. We honestly do not know how many lives we've lived or how karma "Law of the harvest" Whatever a man sows is what he will reap, it is the same meaning as karma. What goes round comes back round. This is confirmed in the prophets as well. If you need references I am happy to share. My whole point is this... How could a Loving God, full of compassion and mercy who has no Beginning and no end allow even One soul to suffer in eternity overall less than 100 years of evil sin or evil choices? How does that balance out? Tell me how that makes sense? It does not, and God is more wise than that and more forgiving than that and knows how to show one his own life through his own doings. There is much more to this teaching, and you may not agree and that is ok. I hope we can have a brotherly respect for one another and see that Love and compassion is the true Way for ALL. Peace and blessings 🙏🏻

    Not only that but forget this model for a moment and think of eternal nothingness.
    How could ‘you’ go there? Where is this eternal nothingness?
    Would it be like being trapped in a dark room forever?
    If that’s what you think it’s like, I implore you to think that through.
    You might be surprised at how little that makes sense.

    • @anbukkarasimanoharan775
      @anbukkarasimanoharan775 3 роки тому +1

      Eternal nothing will not be dark as you have said. Consciousness is Self Luminous. It is Happiness itself. It is Peace itself. It is Love itself. It is Knowledge itself. But there will be this eternal dream we call Life and Manifestation. We are trapped here only as a body. Out of bodily confinement lies the True Fteedom.

    • @deanmccrorie3461
      @deanmccrorie3461 3 роки тому

      @@anbukkarasimanoharan775 I didn’t say that. I said eternal nothingness doesn’t make sense that way it’s perceived by the general public which included me most of my life.
      it’s generally perceived to be blackness, void, vacuous, like emptiness of space.
      When we close our eyes and sleep we think that’s unconsciousness.
      When we close our eyes it’s dark. Thus there’s a conflation between the darkness of closing our eyes and the darkness of sleep and unconsciousness.
      So the common misconception is that death is this dark place like a dreamless sleep, lacking content. Like a black hole.
      I’m saying that model doesn’t make sense given some thought.
      What eternal nothingness is is far more interesting than that.

    But matter can be measured by instruments, and what about other animals and such? Without humans, there was the cosmos. The appearance of humans didn't create our cosmos. The cosmos creates itself via relationship true. Again, another model that reconciles the materialistic viewpoint with the everything is consciousness viewpoint is to have energy be sentient. Whereas you're asserting that the materialistic view is wrong, if energy were sentient, both views/models would be correct.
    I also disagree the materialist model consequence is unhappiness and despair. A meaningless materialistic universe is as happy as a universe that is Infinite Consciousness.
