i think people overlook a tiny major detail. when you look at the remake of "IT" its still billed as Wes Craven's It. however with Halloween we get Rob Zombie's, denoting one should expect a different take on the story and characters. i think if more remakes were done this way, they would be better. We get to see Loomis in a different light, just as real as the original, because we all know both kinds of doctors exist. Moreover, its just better to follow your own path, just keep the central characters in play.

Always liked this film more than Zombie’s 2007 remake - The way Myers grunts when he kills, the extreme violence, and the dream sequence homage to the original Halloween 2. Lots of great cameos. Most others think it’s “wierd” and I get it, but there are elements of this film to be appreciated. That decapitation with the shard of glass is brutal as hell.
Also drove a VW Golf back in the day so amused when Michael flips it in that scene prior to the final showdown, and then it just blows up.

So great to see that someone cares so much about this film. Basically every reviewer on UA-cam is nitpicking this film to death and making fun of things that aren't even funny or bad. I remember the controversy when this movie came out. Some angry Halloween fans even started a petition to stop the production. And then there is of course this hilarious and unobjective amateur documentary "How Rob Zombie Destroyed the Halloween Franchise", which is basically a concatenation of twisting statements of Rob Zombie and a lot of whining why his "Halloween" is the root of all evil.
I first saw "Halloween II" back in 2009 when it came out and loved it from the beginning. It is such an intense movie. Especially for a slasher flick it's so unconventional and interesting. I love the atmosphere, the performances, the visuals, the rawness and it's free-spirited soul. Also the movie is somewhat important to me. As a teenager I had a hard time to be really me. I couldn't accept myself over a long period of time and in some way this film seemed to understand all this.
So awesome that you're a fan of H2. Love your channel!
    Best wishes from Germany

@outsiderkid93 The thing is most horror filmmakers say contradictory shit in interviews, it's just that it only tends to be pointed out when slasher film fans particularly hate a filmmaker`s films. John Carpenter flip-flops every 2 fucking months but he`s the franchise creator so we can`t criticize any of his shit or unoriginality! Also,Rob Zombie makes actual films, not sugarcoated corporate popcorn products like most Hollywood "movies" are nowadays! Also,John Carpenter changed his mind on remakes long before Zombie did but it was fucking crickets when Carpenter did that shit but when Zombie did it "Oh,what an outrage, what a sellout!I thought you were one of us,man!"People change their minds in this world all the fucking time!Deal with it!

Fantastic review and I hope people go back watch the movie after watching this review! I personally have always loved this movie, and I also prefer the theatrical version of the director's cut. There are definitley elements of the director's cut I love, but overall the theatrical cut is the best. Very underrated film and in the future I see this movie becoming a cult classic. I've noticed people appreciating this movie over time though.

100% agree with u on the Annie death scene. It is brilliant! I love the music that plays behind the scene when Sheriff Bracket brakes down and Laurie is running for her life. The way Rob shows how broken Annie's father is at that moment is powerful. The acting pulled the scene right off the page and into our hearts. For a moment you cry along with sheriff Bracket. Laurie holding her dieing friend and running for her life are such an emotional scenes as well. Your heart races along with Laurie from the moment they pull up and enter the house. I'm so happy you brought this scene up. I don't understand why so many fans hate on this film. For one, it's different and I appreciate that. Two, it's pretty damn good if you actually drop any prejudice toward Zombie making a Halloween sequel. I hope people watch this movie again, cuz there truly is more there. Watch it with a fresh outlook. I give this film a solid B++

I respect you for defending this film and you do deliver some good points but no matter how many times I put myself through the horror of watching this film I end up hating it every time! I do agree this film does have some powerful scenes like when poor Anne dies and Laurie is holding her and both Daniel Harris, Scott Taylor Compton and Brad Dourif deliver excellent performances in this scene but the scene itself is a disaster along with the rest of the movie! The idea of seeing Laurie after surviving the events of the first film was a great idea and it had major potential but it doesn't work and frankly H20 did it better of doing what this film tried to do but failed at doing! The movie is a mess from beginning to end though I admit the first 15 minutes were pretty good and there are a few instances goring the movie where things actually showed potential but than it just went right back to disaster! The dialog in the film is terrible and Laurie is screaming and whining so much of the film it's so hard to even root for her character and frankly I ended up caring more about Anne and Sheriff Bracket and don't even get me started on Doctor Loomis, that was not Doctor Loomis in any shape or form! The bottom line this film is a disaster and it's a real shame frankly the 3rd act I felt should have focused on Laurie and Anne battling Michael and Dr. Loomis and Sheriff Brackett showing up at the end to help and the farm house setting was the perfect setup for this but instead Rob Zombie killed off poor Anne despite knowing how much Danielle Harris means to the Halloween fan base and frankly gave her such a meaningless death it's just an insult! When I have the time I am going to rewrite this films script and fix it so it could be the great film it could have been but for know I have no choice but to give this train wreck a 0 out of 10!

There basically are no charavcters..in this movie..the characters are not well made in any way..the performances are good, but the characters them selfes are not good. Quick editing and gore for gore sake.... you cant root for anyone in this movie.. the movie just looks..bad to..the cinematography is ugly. The acting besides laurie nd bracket is not good.. but in those cases where acting is good..it doesnt matter much because the characters they are doing these good performances with are not good.. and what makes it a disaaster are the horse scnes..and other schenes that are trown into it..that just dont make sense at all.. i get what he wanted to say..but he could have done it in a much better way.

    • @maxxsteelthegod7617
      @maxxsteelthegod7617 6 років тому +2

ummm... in my opinion, its quite the opposite when it comes to character development.
Rob Zombie put a lot of detail and attention into character development than John Carpenter ever did (he says himself, his concern was a simple story and to scare the audience, character development wasn't his strong suit which is why he hates to write scripts)..
In comparison, you get a wealth of complexity from Rob's characters.
From Michael himself, to Sheriff Brackett, we get to see multi-dimensional characters and makes for a more compelling story and intensity.
Both versions push the boundaries for their own respective times, which is why i think they are both brilliant.
What made the original in 1978 so groundbreaking, wouldn't be today and I'm sure even Blumhouse knows this and we shouldn't expect the new movie to be made in that way either, that would be just selling nostalgia.
Far as the characters though, we get to she how Brackett lives with the situation and get to see him as a person, not just a cop on the scene to pay Loomis' wing-man.
Speaking of Loomis, it was a great different look for him.
A true psychiatrist in the real world would believe Michael dead and try to get on with his life (rational guy instead of occult doctor) We actually get to see his insight in what drives him in general, what it must have been like to treat him for so long, etc.
Him being the polar opposite to the original Loomis was another area where Zombie did great.
You get to see loomis in Turmoil, his trying to use fame to cope, denial that Michael is back.. I feel the times Rob fails, is when he re-uses certain dialogue and key moments from the originals, especially concerning Loomis and laurie.
In the end i agree with Rob, if the idea was just to remake a perfect original, its pointless to make, but to make your own version of it, thats worth doing..Part 2 was even better, i also think some people subconsciously feel that giving credit to the remakes, somehow diminish the impact of the original...
Give it 15, 20 years, it will be in the same boat as Halloween 3 now.. a great, misunderstood entry in the horror genre.

I personally loved that Michael spoke. There's a deleted scene from the 2007 film where young Michael kept telling Loomis he needed to get out of Smith's Grove and Loomis said that would never happen. So Michael's response was "Then I have nothing else to say" or something like that. That was the moment he decided to be silent. So for Loomis to be the person that Michael chose to go mute and Loomis being the one that Michael finally breaks his silence after all those years is brilliant.

@Drumdrums The white horse was explained at the very beginning of The Film!"White Horse-Symbolizing purity, instinct and the release of powerful emotional forces, especially rage, often resulting in ensuing chaos and destruction."-Excerpt from "The Subconscious Psychosis of Dreams. Also,in The Book of Revelation in The Bible Death is said to ride a white horse and in both Halloween franchises Loomis compares Michael to both Death and The Devil constantly!

I also find this one under appreciated. Even though I wouldn't go as far as to say that I overall loved the movie, I certainly favor it over Zombie's first remake since it was so different. The trauma aspect of the movie really carried the film gracefully. It's not perfect to me, but it defintely doesn't deserve the hate it typically receives.

I have a really complex case of PTSD where 2 seperate incidents cause it...my point is I agree with you 100% on the fact that Zombie really captured the pain and the sad reality of what living with PTSD is like. With how little knowledge and insight is put out there for the masses regarding PTSD....I can really appreciate it because we as a whole need more knowledge and understanding on PTSD and mental health issues in general.

I absolutely love Rob Zombies H2. The hate it gets angers me lol. It was by far the most terrifying since the original Halloween. Michael was more brutal then every other Halloween film combined in my opinion.Michael in H2 is the one that i would be afraid of the most. Rob Zombies H2 was a slasher combined with psychological horror. It's just so much deeper and unsettling than any other film in the franchise. And how people say the characters are underdeveloped is BEYOND me. The characters are literally two different people from Rob Zombies H1 to H2. Both physically, emotionally and mentally. This is what happens to people who have suffered traumatic events.

I rewatched H2 and H1, and im gonna say
I think H2 is better. There could've been so much potential for H1. If I were to have a say on it, I would have done it much differently. I would probably have the movie start with Loomis talking to kid Micheal in the Sanitarium, with this terrible murder spree hinted in the background, then spiral down as Michael starts to not talk and becomes emotionless. Then the nurse would look at the picture of Michael and Angel saying the typical, "Cute baby, couldnt be related to you..." and have Michael look up, not in rage, like the original, but emotionless. It would cut to a small flashback to Michael killing everyone in the house and killing Judith. The difference would be, and I know this would be a BIG difference and change the course of the movie completley, Michael would go to kill little Angel as well. His mom rushes through the door cuz she heard the cries of Judith and thinks it was Ronnie abusing everyone and super drunk, only to find Michael staring at the baby, emotionless and with blood all over his clothes, walking slowly toward her. Blah blah Michael's mom stops him, police are called, etc. After Michael escapes as an adult, a lot would change. The kills would be completley different. Bob would not be stabbed through the wall, and Lynda would not be simply choked. I liked the impact that the attack had on Annie into the second, so I would keep that. Also, less shakey cams. All in all, Michael would be looking to immediatley kill Laurie. Not sympathize with her and say, 'heyyo im yo brotha'. It would be like the original and he would just try to kill her. Why? Why? Because its more mysterious. In the actual H1 you basically just have to be nice to the guy and he wont kill you. The baby wasn't corrupted so he didnt kill her, and the mom cared about Michael so he didnt kill her. Okay, sure. Not in my movie. It would be a lot more mysterious.
Back to H2. H2 felt a bit better with the story. I respect that it was different from the original H2. And yeah, Im glad they added the Hospital dream sequence just to give everyone a taste of what Zombie's version would play out in the hospital. Another thing I am glad they didn't make the hospital thing real. Cmon, it would take Michael FOREVER to walk all the way to the Hospital. And I think they realized that. Also, the whole "Hobo Myers" thing actually makes so much sense. Yes, he technically still does have the jumpsuit on under the other clothes, but people have to take into account that it was turning toward Winter cuz, yknow, Halloween is in fall, and the movie takes place one/two years after. Michael would be wandering around, scrounging for food and staying warm. Sure Mikey is a tough guy, but cold is cold, and if you're cold enough, your body is gonna start shutting down. Also, it makes sense that the mask is getting more and more rotted. I only wish the girl didn't rip that chunk off of his mask exposing his face. And Michael only putting on the mask for kills was a great move. I also give a huge hand for the whole Annie death. It really WAS emotional, and I felt terrible that she died, and even more terrible that Laurie never got the chance to fix their friendship. And you can see that when Laurie is crying with Annie on the bathroom floor. She will never be able to forgive herself for how she treated Annie. Even at the end when Laurie is in the white room and smiles, its like...Laurie just was completley broken. From what she had to see and endure. The people she loved die and always being in costant fear, stress, and anxiety. It makes sense. She broke. Her mind is not whole anymore. And with Loomis, of course he's gonna try and profit from all the events of the first movie. Actually, he was trying to make something out of Michael before Michael even escaped in the first place. I also love the performance of Mr. Brackett seeing his daughter. It was terrible enough already from the first movie, but to know that he failed, no matter how hard he tried that night, to keep Annie out of danger. It made me tear up seeing him cry over the memories he had with his daughter.
In fact, the Sheriff is probably my favorite character. He tried so hard to support Laurie from what she had been through, and he was just the nicest guy. And it shows when he finds out Loomis exposes Laurie in his book. The anger from trying to keep Laurie away from this and Loomis just exposes this all out to everyone.
This movie is actually not as bad as people are all saying it to be. My gripe is just a bit of the dialogue and the nudity. It seems a bit pointless at parts. Also, with the whole Michael talking, maybe it would've been better if he said something different, like "Boo" when he gets shot by the snipers at the end and falls against the shed equipment. All in all, It's pretty good, anmd I even like the soundtrack. Its gritty and dark, like you know something absolutley terrible and sinister was coming. Anyway, sorry for the long essay, but I agree with you Drumdums.
(P.s. Michael probably smelled SO BAD, like, bad enough where the cop at Annie's house should've smelled him from getting a smoke haha)

in 1991 or 92' Friday the 13th in Dallas TX 3 friends and I were at a Danzig concert which was all ages which allowed us to get in with tickets, and White Zombie opened up for Danzig I was the youngest out of my friends we were all on LSD , so my friend's were in 7th grade and I was in 6th grade so we are frying sack so hard that the small venue was packed and I could not hear the music properly and non the less it was a great concert , since I was younger my friend's had me go to the bar and get free water since it was so expensive like 5 bucks so I used the I'm young and dehydrated card,Rob threw out a bunch of CDs to the crowd which I was able to get one, very awesome experience it was my first concert, thanks for the review, peace ,also at the concert I remember Rob's guitar player was playing the Twilight Zone's intro song that everyone knows while Rob was interacting with the audience stating that the date was Friday the 13th, I remember looking behind me and these hot ass chicks were getting into the song with their boobs hanging out if I recall correctly,it might have been because I was frying so hard, also I think the Rob Zombie Halloween movies bite extremely bad,bad casting and writing for Myers great casting for Danielle Harris and her blond sister from 4 the character Rachel , I believe it was this one where she had a cameo as a cop I believe, not shur may have been Rob's Halloween 1

The dream sequence at the beginning I thought was awesome. It showed just his relentless rage. One of the things I thought was interesting if not the most interesting aspect was it seemed like Michael was kinda back in that adolescence innocent state majority of the time he's just wandering. But as soon as that mask went on that darkness awakens and he just eliminates anything and everything in his way. And another thing that I think people get shitty about this movie is in regards to the psychological game and link between Michael, laurie, and their mom and how they're seeing/dreaming this stuff. But in the original H2 they kinda touched on that when laurie was dreaming/hallucinating and seeing her brother and having flashbacks of her mom. But people seem to forget about that aspect of the original H2.

Just watched H2 for the first time in awhile. As a stand alone it would of been a good slasher movie. As a Halloween movie it just didn't work it was missed a opportunity there's some really awesome kills and some great acting. Michael was reduced to a Jason rip off with the whole mom white horse thing. The score wasn't effective for a Halloween movie neither was Michael without his mask. A little of the classic theme in some scenes. And the classic stalk theme would of made the hospital scene so much better

I still have many issues with it that I had the first time around but the emotions of this movie that it takes you through is undeniably incredible and the atmosphere is amazing. If RZ would have made these 2 movies standalone films about a new serial killer there is no doubt it would get so much more love and be thought of as one of the best 2 movies of this generation but the fact it’s a Michael Myers movie makes it extremely hard to get past and just enjoy it for what it is

Happy to know I'm not alone. Avoided H2 for many years because of the bad reviews (I enjoyed H1, but wasn't blown away by it). But man! What a treat! (No pun intended) As you said, H2 is a completely different take on the Halloween mythos. Carpenter only wanted to showcase an unstoppable force, whereas Zombie seems to be more interested in exploring how different people deal with trauma (even Michael) and family, with lots of nice aesthetic twists along the way. As someone who enjoys a horror flick every now and then but is not a fan, I find it's a pity how this sequel was sidelined, while the newer but clearly formulaic 2018 sequel has met critical acclaim.

I’m sure you’re getting tired of my comments Lee. Man, I’m so glad you mentioned Annie’s kill. I wrote a review for this movie when it came out and I really disliked it at first. But the biggest positive I wrote about was Brad Dourif and Danielle Harris’s performances. I wrote that the movie didn’t deserve performances like that because the rest of it was shit.
Years later, I’m more on your side of the fence. I still don’t like how Sheri Zombie is shoehorned in with a different child actor playing young Michael. I think you’re right, with proper editing, mixing the director’s cut and theatrical cut would make this an incredible watch. I’m actually a fan of it as I post this in 2019.

Somewhat agree - think the problems started with part 5 and the Thorn storyline, but then the franchise regained its former glory with H20. Unfortunately they then sabotaged that return to glory with Resurrection. Wish Resurrection had never been made, and the original franchise just ended there prior to the remake. It was a good ending to Laurie’s story and the Myers character in that continuity.

I detest RZ movies so much. I never really appreciated his visions because they are very specific in his style of filmmaking. However H2 does have a special place in my heart because of all the points you mentioned in this review. Although you love the dream sequence, i still can't give RZ a free pass on that one. LOL. I hated that dream sequence because it was just a WTF moment for me when Laurie woke up and I was just sooooooo mad!!! Best part of the movie was Danielle Harris. I was more interested in her development in the movie and wanted to know what will happen to her. I think she made the movie more so than Scout. And you summed it up beautifully regarding Danielle's character. I really LOVE H2 despite it's flaws and love it more than RZ's Halloween. I think i may pop this one in my Blu Ray and revisit this one. Great review!!

People say Laurie is an annoying bitch in this one. But I loved her and felt awful for her. Her life, almost everyone she loved was destroyed in one night. She's traumatized to hell and back plus we find out she shares Michael's insanity. And then she finds out that not only was she adopted but the person responsible for all this pain and loss is her older brother who also killed her older sister and drove her birth mother to suicide. Who wouldn't be a total ruin after all she's suffered through? Laurie was the best thing about this movie. Very tragic character. I actually teared up at the end. That heartbreaking cover of "Love Hurts" while we see the tragedy and chaos of everything that's happened. Michael's insanity destroyed his family from the inside out. So I do enjoy this film. It's not the best but it's most definitely not the worst. Great review, Lee. Like always!

I definitely need to watch this again. I watched the directors cut the first time and didn't realize it so this time I am going to watch the theatrical version. I live really close to Covington GA and didn't know it was filmed there. I am going to make a trip soon!! Also I wanted to tell you recently I went camping at Hard labor State Park and at the time I didn't realize that it was where Friday the 13th Part six was filmed! Great review!!!!

Just now watching this in 2020 and it just so happens I live 10 minutes from Covington. Really crazy how all these monsters were just miles away and might just have to check out the locations!

Just saw your twitter post. I'm telling ya - a lottttt of people hate this movie. Not I. No sir. There may be some bad stuff in it - but the cinematography is fucking gorgeous. Michael is brutal. And Brad Douriff gives a GREAT and emotional performance. That scene where he finds Annie makes the movie. I love this movie, always have and always will. Great vid bro

I may have to revisit this. I haven't seen this since it was in theaters and I didn't get it and didn't like it. Your review shed some light on it that may help me to appreciate it more. Thanks'

No problem man. Definitely check out the unrated version. It's 15 minutes longer and really shines in the character dept.

Amazing review, I agreed with everything you said, the scores amazing. I went to see this at the cinema and remember not liking this at all, then I rewatched it and it was so much better, your spot on about the endings. I like rob zombies movies, I think he try's to mix things up.
