Thomas, I watch many different reviews from different commentators, you are the best in everyway, no need to elaborate, NOT a good job, but a PERFECT job. Thanks for being around.
i know Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
You should have mentioned the Chademo DC quick charging. Getting 80% charge (200km) in 30 Minutes is something worth mentioning. Thanks for the great review:)
Bochum 3 stations, Germany 351 stations :-). You should look at goingelectric after stations because there you will see access type and status (EV drivers can confirm their last successful charging or problems). For CHAdeMO/CCS or Supercharger you also need no cable, its always on the station.
Thanks for this review. I am currently considering replacing my Citroen C1 diesel, possibly with a Nissan Leaf, so it has been very useful to me. Your review gave me a lot more information than many others that I have seen. Keep up the good work!
Yeah, subbed as soon as I saw your video about leather =/= luxury. This is the first review video I watch of you. I noticed you have mountains of content, which I will never be able to get through in my lifetime. Will I find the vegan episodes if I search for 'Vegan' in your channel?
here they are ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/WKeixHEwW08/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/tMNgcLE0LDU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/5bYjjydyaMA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/r7ShoCkdCy8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/LNSUzZXzpdc/v-deo.html Plus every car review includes advice how to go for fabric/alcantara/leatherette seats for each car
You are a legend. Thanks a million brother. Will check them all thoroughly along with the electric car episodes as I may be buying one soon (and not from teh brand I work for as they don't make a fully electric car yet. Their loss.).
I enjoyed your video very much! I hear many complaining about the style of the Nissan Leaf. The Volkswagon, much beloved by Americans, did not change for many, many years. The iconic shape of the air-cooled, mechanical marvel is still loved. Nissan has arrived at an aerodynamic shape. I predict it will be loved as well. Your accent and mastery of English is a very pleasing addition to the presentation. Thank you!
Good review, but some little mistakes: engine is not 30 kWh, it is 80 kW and the battery is 30 kWh (at 4:30), at 4:44 : is not the engine, its the PDM (Power delivery module) and under that the inverter there is the electric motor at the bottom: www.nissan-global.com/EN/TECHNOLOGY/OVERVIEW/e_powertrain.html And also the price differene is not 5.000 € between 24 kWh and 30 kWh battery, its 2.000 € in Germany. What is also interesting if viewers are concerned about battery life (waranty 8 years/160.000 km): battery cots. Because Leaf is bestselling EV since 2010 you could get a replacement battery for 6.000 €, while other manufacturers wants to have up to triple of that amount.
I think someone said that the exterior design has been created like that because of less wind resistance. In my eyes this design is okay. I could live with it. Tolles Video Thomas.
i like the look of the leaf as soon as you see one you know instantly is a leaf, which is more than you can say for most modern euro box vehicles, much kudos for leafs
Great video guys (learnt German over 35 years ago so thanks for the english ;)) only issue is that fossil fuel vehicles fuel uses vast amounts of electricity and of course fossil fuel from the oil fields via supertankers and then huge amounts of electricity to refine it etc whereas electricity comes in the perfect delivery system over head wires directly to your house instantly ;) zero emissions no but much better than refineries!
I recently asked if could more test of pure electric car and hybrid as more and more people think about them. So I'm pleased with this good testing. Just one information, front lights are desing to lead the aireflow over the sides mirrors for nose reduction. Other thing, you have not explained the quick charging plug (chademo) and the eco mode . Other wise its a rather good test . I Can't wait Zoe, Soul EV, Rav 4 hybrid etc ... tests.
I was looking at a Nissan Leaf and a BMW i3 and went with the i3 because I actually got a cheaper lease term on the i3 here in the US. I agree Thomas that the Leaf doesn't have the best styling but I would have been happy with it for the drivetrain and the range. It will be very nice in a few years when we'll have many more pure electrics to choose from, including the next generation Leaf. Keep up the great work!
+Autogefühl Yes! I am getting my i3 for $280 a month for 30 months. So cheap, and of course the running costs are so low. I love it. I'll never have a petrol car again.
I honestly think the exterior isn't that bad. It's unique and original yet not too exotic. I assume the look has been decided because of the aerodynamic advantages (yes the back matters as well, the ideal form aerodynamically is a 'drop (like a water drop) form'). If it actually helps, then I'm ok with it. Good point from the other Thomas about the extra experience that an electric cars brings you that is not directly related to what the car is.
''Let's make it ugly and small and with little range... Let's see if we can kill this so called electric revolution right where it stands... Blimey, it is selling and the reviews of our toy car are not too bad.. And look Tesla just announced the Model 3 with more than 400,000 reservations... Wow! We better step up our game... New design incoming and more range now that the deal is for real... Let's make it look like a traditional car now'' The signs are there, because of Tesla's success, in less than one year, almost all manufacturers stepped up their game. Competition is good isn't it?
Great review! Thank you for doing it. Well spoken and you really got many details and complexities that other reviewers didn't notice. One thing I disagree with is the front of the Nissan Leaf. I love the insect qualities of the large bulging headlights. Also, the headlights are for safety as well. Many headlights only face front, but the Leaf bulging lights shine up and to the side as well. Also, the turn blinkers can be seen by other cars better, whereas most cars have blinkers that are hidden on the side. I do agree with you about the rear of the Leaf. It could have been made better in design, style, and size. If it curved out in a stylish way, it could have a larger trunk space and still be aerodynamic. Thanks again for the super detailed review. (^:
The solar panel on the Leaf is not for the main battery. It only charges the small auxiliary 12V battery for some of the smaller loads. It has nothing to do at all with the efficiency or range of the car as it doesn't charge the main 250V 30 kWh battery. I liked the review but just had to correct the minor misconception.
The VW e-Golf drives and looks way better than the Leaf. Hopefully they will release a bigger battery later this year for it. But I've been driving the eGolf for 2 years now and it's great! Can't go back to driving a gas powered car, like you said, it just doesn't make sense once you know that all electric is so fun and cheap and better for everyone.
Just to correct the issue that "electric cars are too expensive". With tax incentives I got my fully loaded e_Golf SEL premium for $26,889 (USD) after rebates and so far I've saved over $3,400usd per year over driving a similar gas powered car the same distance. (about 11,000 miles per year) So electric cars are infact CHEAPER to run by far.
Hi there, the idea behind the sticking out front headlights is because of noise reduction from the wind. It is explained in the documentary "Revenge of the Electric Car" which is available here on UA-cam :)
Good work Thomas and team! But you could measure the actual energy kWh taken from the wall socket and drive till next recharge then measure the refill and compare the km. This will give true kWh/100km or miles/kWh. It seems you drove under 40 mph most of the time. Some of us have a commute of 30 to 40 miles each way each dayor drive more on motorway at 70mph. On US forums Leaf owners have recharged using modern Hitachi petrol generator which gave 30 mpg (US) overall - so the car is heavy and not that aerodynamic so uses quite a lot of energy which has to be produced somehow. Still around town ok.
Schönen tag. Thomas, you are too kind. When the specs first came out I had my money on the I-Miev, but after a few years the heavy, ugly, Leaf has come out ahead. From the bug eyes in the front, to its twerky rear end, the Leaf is as digestible as cardboard. Luckily, its performance has kept it alive. What is needed now is a makeover. If the Leaf could go on a diet and shed a few pounds, put on a little lipstick, and gussy down that coefficient of drag, It could become more interesting (to me.) I disagree with those people who want a whole new design every year. The advantage of keeping cars similar, year after year, is that if ever you decide to buy one, you can be certain to be able to get used parts. Old Leafs sell for less than half of their original price. Probably because their owners dumped them before the battery needed replacement. In addition, the R&D probably cost Nissan some Yen, and they want to recoup some of that to be able to rationalize a more adventurous version. What would get more people into electric cars is the price. If the price is low people will think, "should I take the risk?" But when the price is cheaper for a gas car people think, "I like the price, and I am not taking a chance, I am not gambling." Nice review. Please do a review on my favorite truck, the Mercedes UniMog. Wouldn't it be great if the UniMog came out with an electric version?
nice review, thank you, looking forward to next one (emission free) :) my toughts about Leaf - exterior 4/10, interior 6/10, drive 8/10.. overall - 7/10, what I see as an future improvements are - bigger battery (real 300km range), better recuperation system, and Nissan guys....do something with proportions of the car, especially at the back :)
Excellent review. I agree, the car fell out of the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down. Let's hope the 2nd generation leaf is a swan. I will buy one though when the second hand prices are lower. The 24kwh is not quite enough for my needs but the 30 will be ok for me.
Thomas, do you have time for sleeping every week new test is coming thank you for your hard work. It is nice to see different cars in different classes i really appreciate for that.
in the 70's I had a ford Anglia with 13 " lotus Cortina wheels and 165 x 13 Pirelli Cinturato tyres .. That car was the love of my life back then in the 60's
Hi Thomas have you ever tested the E golf I think they upgraded the battery the nice thing is that the golf have the same look as regular golf and it has the same interior space as a regular Golf .
+Autogefühl yes I know that you did a review but it was done on a air port runway and it was 2 years ago I think the they updated the battery pack . Do the same with the BMW I 3 it also have more range.
I saw in japan a facelift version of this leaf, especially for the interior and i must say it's quiet better than this one! The handle looks more modern and the dashboard a bit too :)
In spite of all the interesting characteristics of this new LEAF one important question is not raised: what about the cycle life of the Li-ion battery (and therefore the battery replacement cost after how many years). - There is no battery on the market which can assure that over at least 5 years no capacity loss - and therefore driving range - will occur, especially when using fast charging. Note: the deposits of used batteries (for second life application) are full with batteries being used for just 3 to 4 years and showing on average rest capacities of less than 50%. The often claimed 8 or 10 years life ist still not proven and may only be possible with huge capacity losses. A 30 kWh Li-Ion battery at current prices would proably need to invest another 10'000 € after a few years.
yeah that question is still remaining. The are some plans to put used batteries from cars together to form an energy saving plant for renewables e.g. but thats all still prototype phase
Great review thanks you talk good understant. You talk about negative and positive is good. I was testing drive not like driver with 24kw battery and there is 150km+ normal and range in city 200km. Its confortable car outside design is so 7/10 :) bud for my it can by great car. Nice day.
I am a Nissan LEAF owner of 2 and half years. I enjoyed this honest and balanced review of the car. But there were a couple of mistakes mentioned but nevermind... Yes the looks are not that great. But I wanted an EV and this was the only reasonably priced EV at the time of purchase. The way the car drives and everything else makes up for the not so good looks. It's as if Nissan made the car look quirky like Toyota done with the Prius to make it stand out from the crowd and make people talk about the "EV". I wish they didn't and just make it look like a normal car. Just take the Nissan Pulsar for example. Just make it look normal like that. I wish in the review you mentioned that the LEAF is basically nearly 6 years old and is coming to the end of its design life. So many of the negatives you picked up on is basically down to the age of the car. The new model will be here in a year or two. All I can say after 70,000 kms of driving the LEAF it is a great car. I still have 93% remaining of my battery and this battery loss reduces as the mileage increases (the battery loss is greater at the start). The future for very bright for EV's and when the range is around 300kms and an average price on the cae this will be a game changer. I will continue driving my LEAF for the foreseeable future. Well, until my Tesla Model 3 comes! But I am also open to other cars and may cancel my order if VW bring out an EV passat Estate hopefully.
Long story short for international viewers: the upgraded Leaf still has no Combined Charging Systen (CCS)?
Hi, Tomas i live in Dubai currently, I'm half Malaysian half Jordanian. Just wondering if you are you planning to review a fiat 500 in the future. Kind regards
Nissan will have to upgrade the battery capacity if they wish to compete with the new Chevy Bolt. It is rated at 238 miles (383km) of driving range. While neither car is what I would call stylish, at least the Bolt looks more like a modern compact hatchback.
Darin Kerr If they can make it look like a Micra 2017 I will buy one. Range is not an issue, as more range more wait for it to recharge. You won't find a quick charger often.
Range is a big issue where I live. We have much longer distances to drive (midwestern USA), and fewer charging stations to use. If I bought a Chevy Bolt, I would probably install a Level 2 charger in my garage and charge at home. My office does have some 120volt plugs for Level 1 charging. The only commercial charging stations here only work on Teslas.
Range is going to be a problem for some people for a long time. As a second car for a suburbanite, 100 miles is enough range. We have an Accord Hybrid for distance travel. A used Leaf would be just fine for running errands, etc.
I agree with you 100%. The design is such a let down. This car cloud have ignited the EV revolution if it could just look the part as well as better handling. EV does not mean the car has to be bad driving dynamics and ugly design. EV actually gives opportunity for better handling because of lower center of gravity. This car is a fail because of these shortcomings. I will wait for Tesla Model 3.
Firstly, I should say that I'm not a huge Greenie or anything; I'm not even convinced by climate change theory. However, the toxicity of the air in many of our cities is worrying. And I am convinced of the particularly harmful nature of diesel-particulate pollution, even though the progress of diesel technology has been amazing and by the worrying fact that we have been encouraged to embrace diesel cars and now diesel cars are being demonized. Something is not right! Anyway, back to cars like the Nissan Leaf. With regards this car in particular, I know it's a so-called 'marmite' car but it is different looking, and that's not a bad thing. For me, personally, I like so-called bug-eye-design cars, and I think the looks have grown on me, both front and rear. The leaf is also a good-sized car, which can easily accommodate an average family, unlike most of the cheaper e-cars. Range and working infrastructure for longer journeys are still significant problems. The basic version of this car has only a 170-ish km range! However, as many families these days have two cars, there is really no good reason for most families not to own one e-car...unless of course both drivers have longer commutes. The range is clearly enough for city driving. And the economic case is also easily made. These cars are available used, 5-6 years old with low mileages for less than a third of their new prices, many with batteries that are owned not leased and still with full or near-full charging capacities. And when you need to replace the battery, the cost (in the UK) is about GBP4K less 1K back for your old battery. Let's say a battery only lasts 5 years, which is the warranty for the lower capacity version, that's still less than GBP12/Euro14 per week and as I understand it, each charge from near empty costs about GBP2/E2.4, and of course is also free of road tax (in the UK at least). Add to that the other maintenance savings for not running a combustion-engine vehicle, and I think the case for buying one of these used as the second family car is pretty well made. Furthermore, as a supercar fan, most owners, living in countries with speed limits, talk about the rush of speed, torque, etc, in regular driving; okay, they also talk about the sound and the handling. But,you get massive torque, and often more of it, from many more ordinary diesel cars. Of course, there's being so low to the ground, the thrill of owning such iconic cars. However, electric delivers similar exhilaration in city driving. In conclusion, I think the e-car has still got a long way to go until it can rival the internal combustion engine car for long journeys and performance driving. People are still buying the established supercar brands rather than flocking to Tesla, and let's face it, an e-car is never going to make the sound of a Ferrari V12. Also, travelling salespeople are still not going to be driving an e-vehicle anytime soon, nor haulage drivers, etc, etc, etc. However, for city driving, I think the time is already here! And I'm seriously considering on of these as a runaround. It will also offset somewhat my petrol- or diesel-guzzling when I travel longer distances and/or for simply the pleasure of driving in something the opposite of eco-friendly. As always, your mileage may vary.
I have always been torn over its rear. haha. At some angles (from a standing perspective and at 6ft), it makes the car look low and that it's roof is swooping forward. On the other hand, if you're in another car looking at it (or at camera height which is the least flattering for the Leaf and even i3), it looks bad. If anything, it's a bad practical design. The hatch door bends inwards and reduces space. While the boot is deep, it's badly shaped. Far from the Prius. And when you can install a flat floor in a Leaf, useable space is far worse in comparison to others.
Unfortunately it seems a bit of a common theme with these hybrid/electric cars, that the exterior styling is, ehm, questionable. And then this colour... I have found something positive to say about it though: it looks better than the Prius! :-) Other than that the interior looks ok, and I think they made the right choice by not trying to make it sporty. It looks like the e-Golf is only a bit more expensive here, though. Wouldn't be a hard choice for me..
The latest I read, is that the battery capacity for the e-Golf will increase from 26,5 to 35,8 kWh, and the expected range from 190 to 300 km. Sounds like they agree with you! :-)
+Ben Galvin That was a little unclear, but supposedly in the autumn of this year. I think maybe together with a facelift of the current Golf generation? If you Google '35.8 kWh e-Golf' you'll get a bunch of articles all saying more or less the same thing, and I didn't see any with a firm release date..
I couldn't find a full review of the e-Golf Thomas... any chance of a review similar to this one for the Nissan Leaf? And, also the BMW i3... Compare the 3 with new upgraded batteries?....
Tall car, 155 cm or 61 inches? No spare wheel? Nice color. Not a pretty car but the technology had to be visible on the outside so the design had to stand out. Same for the Prius and i3. Mission accomplished.
It is better to use word motor for electric propulsion than engine. Leaf is a little bit ugly inside and out. Please make video of Model S or X P90DL. As it is now in Germany, You have most coverege of superchargers. It would be interesting to see if it can be used as normal car without big compromizes. Also would be nice to see, If there is some improvement in quality of old and new. Thanks in advance.
For me only problem is still range anxiety. Even if you use Leaf with leafbox (range extender) and 30 kWh battery, you can drive 220 km or so. This is far to short range comparing to any Tesla (ANY!) and Bolt/Ampera-E or new ZOE. Nissan should focus on changing batteries to 40 and 60 as standard, not 24 and 30. Otherwise - it will soon disappear from market.
at the first approach this car looks ugly, but with time it sarts to grow on you. Orly drawback is still range. 250km would be nice if it meant 250km on highway constant speed of 120km/h
+David NL it used to be behind the nose cone in model s but since the facelift it has been next to the hepa filter and is no more user accessible. In model x I believe it's also next to hepa filter
h Hi Thomas (1) mit Thomas (2), I also watch many different reviews from different commentators, yes you are the best in every way. It would be nice to find a standard (: /£ pan-European * charging price, it would also be nice to replace the CHADeMO with a type 2. .
We have the old Nissan Leaf in our company for procurement rides. Its really fun to drive in citys, it feels very powerfull from 0-50km/h but gets a bit slow after that. At all I think its a very good car for the city. Also I liked the space it has inside. The biggest downside its the outside design, it just looks like a literally piece of shit with eyes on it :D
When I want to look good, I get out of the car. When I want something that works, I don't worry about its appearance. "Style is time's fool, form is time's student." - Stuart Brand
aerodynamics get a life .. the Leaf is sooo clean aerodynamically it puts almost all other so called great / attractive cars to shame .72 year old 1980 Donnington gt champion .Now loving a new life in a Nissan LEAF.
Looks like a frog but it's the only affordable EV right now, maybe the Model 3 will change the market if Tesla can keep the price low. The range is still a problem, I would need about 400km and then it could replace my fossil car. But people who need a car only for short distances, Leaf will be just fine.
Good review again! At 3:46, yes the rear...this frau has one ugly backside Thomas! Joking aside, according to a hybrid car review, it's the result of focus groups at the time of its inception. But of course, 5 years ago, only open-sandal-wearing hippies (now called 'hipsters'?) were buying them. It really seems now, the EV market has matured, and people actually want EVs just to be another version of the standard model? Kia did this with the Soul as you will be aware. Funky styling, is non-preferred perhaps now, so the LEAF demonstrates its age perhaps? .Anyway, test-driving one for 4 days from 'nissanretail' in the UK, so will se how it does going from Northern England to Scotland and back. I know - technically northern England to Scotland is only one small step if you are standing at the right point...very funny...
It does not have an electric engine - no such thing, it has an electric motor. He complains the steering wheel doesn't move forwards and backwards, duh, that is what the SEAT does.
Er - No. You adjust the seat forwards/back (and up/down if your car has that option) so that your feet comfortably reach the pedals. If your arms are of average length (for your height/leg length) then the steering wheel may well be in about the right position. If your arms are shorter or longer, or you are a bit porky you'll need to move the wheel in/out a bit to get fully comfortable. Yes, many cars, especially cheap ones, don't have the full range of adjustments, but *at this price point* they generally do, and buyers quite reasonably expect this. So the reviewer mentions this as that's generally what reviews do. Duh, indeed...

totally agree
+Atalay Ant thx so much!
I agree, your reviews are awesome! I love how you go into details over the designs.
i know Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Dexter Ishaan Instablaster :)
Enjoyed many miles in a Nissan LEAF. A solid, dependable car.
You should have mentioned the Chademo DC quick charging. Getting 80% charge (200km) in 30 Minutes is something worth mentioning. Thanks for the great review:)
+MrKroolboy thx! Left that out as there are hardly any stations to do that
Bochum 3 stations, Germany 351 stations :-).
Keep up the good work!
thanks roy and enjoy

e-Golf Facelift review coming up soon!
Thank you!
Thanks, watch more of our reviews!
Good review, but some little mistakes: engine is not 30 kWh, it is 80 kW and the battery is 30 kWh (at 4:30), at 4:44 : is not the engine, its the PDM (Power delivery module) and under that the inverter there is the electric motor at the bottom:
www.nissan-global.com/EN/TECHNOLOGY/OVERVIEW/e_powertrain.html
And also the price differene is not 5.000 € between 24 kWh and 30 kWh battery, its 2.000 € in Germany.
What is also interesting if viewers are concerned about battery life (waranty 8 years/160.000 km): battery cots. Because Leaf is bestselling EV since 2010 you could get a replacement battery for 6.000 €, while other manufacturers wants to have up to triple of that amount.
+1 Thomas isn't used to EVs :)
The small Solarpanel on the back spoiler is for supporting the 12 v system!
Adriano
Good work Thomas :) great review as always
SeemsLegal
I think someone said that the exterior design has been created like that because of less wind resistance.
In my eyes this design is okay. I could live with it.
Tolles Video Thomas.
+Arten Reichtum danke!
The reason the head lights stick out like that is so that the air stream goes around the side mirrors!
i like the look of the leaf as soon as you see one you know instantly is a leaf, which is more than you can say for most modern euro box vehicles, much kudos for leafs
Great video guys (learnt German over 35 years ago so thanks for the english ;)) only issue is that fossil fuel vehicles fuel uses vast amounts of electricity and of course fossil fuel from the oil fields via supertankers and then huge amounts of electricity to refine it etc whereas electricity comes in the perfect delivery system over head wires directly to your house instantly ;) zero emissions no but much better than refineries!
thanks! yeah the goal is to make the energy production renewable as well
I love the Nissan Leaf
I recently asked if could more test of pure electric car and hybrid as more and more people think about them. So I'm pleased with this good testing. Just one information, front lights are desing to lead the aireflow over the sides mirrors for nose reduction. Other thing, you have not explained the quick charging plug (chademo) and the eco mode .
Other wise its a rather good test . I Can't wait Zoe, Soul EV, Rav 4 hybrid etc ... tests.
+Damien Vigneron interesting thx!
The console is a very nice functional layout. No issues there. The app is nice as well.
+Michael Hobbs cheaper i3? Wow
+Autogefühl Yes! I am getting my i3 for $280 a month for 30 months. So cheap, and of course the running costs are so low. I love it. I'll never have a petrol car again.
One of the most thorough and interesting review of nissan leaf 2016, thanks.
thanks for watching!
I'm in agreement with you about the front and back design issues. Great review. Cheers!
Alan Lamb ونشانکاژ
I honestly think the exterior isn't that bad. It's unique and original yet not too exotic. I assume the look has been decided because of the aerodynamic advantages (yes the back matters as well, the ideal form aerodynamically is a 'drop (like a water drop) form'). If it actually helps, then I'm ok with it.
Good point from the other Thomas about the extra experience that an electric cars brings you that is not directly related to what the car is.
Agree i dont think the look is bad.
Let's make it look like a traditional car now''
The signs are there, because of Tesla's success, in less than one year, almost all manufacturers stepped up their game.
I liked the review but just had to correct the minor misconception.
thanks, actually I know that, but did I tell it the wrong way in the review? sorry then!
The VW e-Golf drives and looks way better than the Leaf. Hopefully they will release a bigger battery later this year for it. But I've been driving the eGolf for 2 years now and it's great! Can't go back to driving a gas powered car, like you said, it just doesn't make sense once you know that all electric is so fun and cheap and better for everyone.
thanks for the feedback!
Just to correct the issue that "electric cars are too expensive". With tax incentives I got my fully loaded e_Golf SEL premium for $26,889 (USD) after rebates and so far I've saved over $3,400usd per year over driving a similar gas powered car the same distance. (about 11,000 miles per year) So electric cars are infact CHEAPER to run by far.
thats great! It depends on the governmental benefit from market to market though for the total costs
JAEGERTECH if e-golf drives way better than the Leaf then the VW must be outanding becorse the Leaf is just one great car
Hi there, the idea behind the sticking out front headlights is because of noise reduction from the wind. It is explained in the documentary "Revenge of the Electric Car" which is available here on UA-cam :)
yeah indeed better for aerodynamics ... ugly though :)
I don't like electric cars but I really like this review
The others Thomas could make the same intro than you Thomas M. "... with Thomas" lol
I totally like this space ship styled cockpit
Thomas are you planning some Merc G-Class review in the near future ? That would really be great !
yep!
Please, overpass the Mercedes myth - they are not the car they was in the 70ies.
I thought this review was very well done because as well as covering lots of facts it does ask some thought-provoking questions.
+Steve Mills thanks and spread the word for us!
+松田もしくろす thanks for your thoughts!
I like the shoes. they look very comfortable.
This is an excellent review!

nice review, thank you, looking forward to next one (emission free) :) my toughts about Leaf - exterior 4/10, interior 6/10, drive 8/10.. overall - 7/10, what I see as an future improvements are - bigger battery (real 300km range), better recuperation system, and Nissan guys....do something with proportions of the car, especially at the back :)
Excellent review. I agree, the car fell out of the ugly tree and hit all the branches on the way down. Let's hope the 2nd generation leaf is a swan. I will buy one though when the second hand prices are lower. The 24kwh is not quite enough for my needs but the 30 will be ok for me.
thanks andrew!
Hopefully the new Nissan leaf will be a better looking car that will definitely make me go to all electric drive as it is tge future
Thomas, the solar panel is there only to charge the 12V battery.
+YTuberosity yeah i thought that later as well
Great song at 17:24. Anyone know what artist that is 😊?
As always very good review Thomas 👍🏻
Thomas, do you have time for sleeping every week new test is coming thank you for your hard work. It is nice to see different cars in different classes i really appreciate for that.
+Mehmet Bakır thanks for the support, trying hard:)
Why are 16" small? They seem big, to me. I have a 92 GTI with 15" and that was when that was considered the sporty 16v edition upgrade.
in the 70's I had a ford Anglia with 13 " lotus Cortina wheels and 165 x 13 Pirelli Cinturato tyres .. That car was the love of my life back then in the 60's
Hi Thomas have you ever tested the E golf I think they upgraded the battery the nice thing is that the golf have the same look as regular golf and it has the same interior space as a regular Golf .
+V10PDTDI yes yt search autogefuehl vw egolf
+Autogefühl yes I know that you did a review but it was done on a air port runway and it was 2 years ago I think the they updated the battery pack . Do the same with the BMW I 3 it also have more range.
I think design of this car is so futuristic as the engine tecnology
I saw in japan a facelift version of this leaf, especially for the interior and i must say it's quiet better than this one! The handle looks more modern and the dashboard a bit too :)
Very good review! About the exterior: it is something you get used to :-)
Great information about the Leaf, I'd also love to see an Renault Zoe review to have some good comparision between the two low-end EVs. : )
+eruma thx! Hard to get renault cars here sadly
Wow, every single loveless detail of this car looks like it came out of a refurbishment factory of 20 year old Mazda parts!
A brilliant review
thanks join us for more !
Nice day.
+Jan Tichy thx jan!
Great review though guys thank you
thanks simon !
If the car were lowered with larger rims / tires it would look aesthetically much better.
Low range is not a problem Nissan LEAF is your problem. Buy new modules and you will be happy, without any Webasto and twinbats.
+Dean Hamer thanks for the interesting feedback m8!
+Autogefühl keep up the excellent reviews. The best in depth car reviews on UA-cam!

Long story short for international viewers: the upgraded Leaf still has no Combined Charging Systen (CCS)?
i think they took the idea of futuristic rear lights from the maybach exelero
Great review Thomas, car is really dated though compared to Kia Niro or Toyota Prius
+Cars Cars Cars thanks and spread the word for us!
Hi, Tomas i live in Dubai currently, I'm half Malaysian half Jordanian. Just wondering if you are you planning to review a fiat 500 in the future. Kind regards

Thanks and well done ...go electric go go go
+Scot Team thanks!
Cruise control?
Solar panel charging?
ooohhhh, the German sense of humor
you like that?
I realy like the Leaf but after 6 years it needs a refresh.
dojohansen123 The battery will be bigger. The 40kwh is usable battery capacity.
B mode is recreation mode......you are a funny guy !!
=)
hey thomas, you should test the kia soul ev, to be honest that cr blows the nissan away with interior quality. maybe not looks though;) good luck!
+ZuluEcho ok we ll ask for it!
+Autogefühl yay!;)
+toyotaprius79 true
Hello Thomas. Your videos are great. Just a question: Between the Leaf and the Mirai; which one do you prefer? Regards from Ecuador.
+Marco Romo u can buy 3 leafs for one mirai :)
Unfortunately it seems a bit of a common theme with these hybrid/electric cars, that the exterior styling is, ehm, questionable. And then this colour... I have found something positive to say about it though: it looks better than the Prius! :-)
Other than that the interior looks ok, and I think they made the right choice by not trying to make it sporty.
It looks like the e-Golf is only a bit more expensive here, though. Wouldn't be a hard choice for me..
+Gerard van Essen true. Egolf just needs to improve range
The latest I read, is that the battery capacity for the e-Golf will increase from 26,5 to 35,8 kWh, and the expected range from 190 to 300 km. Sounds like they agree with you! :-)
+Gerard van Essen wow, is that true? When does it come out?
+Ben Galvin That was a little unclear, but supposedly in the autumn of this year. I think maybe together with a facelift of the current Golf generation?
If you Google '35.8 kWh e-Golf' you'll get a bunch of articles all saying more or less the same thing, and I didn't see any with a firm release date..
can you get the battery for a 2015 Leaf???
I couldn't find a full review of the e-Golf Thomas... any chance of a review similar to this one for the Nissan Leaf? And, also the BMW i3... Compare the 3 with new upgraded batteries?....
ua-cam.com/video/WVhQGke4u-w/v-deo.html
I said full review... that one you suggest is 8 minutes not the 38 minutes given to the Leaf...
Why on earth have you added background music to the part when you're trying to demonstrate how quiet the car is?
Sorry this video is quite old. Feel free to tune in to the new generation: ua-cam.com/video/suLpyPX7-_Y/v-deo.html
Thanks in advance.

who is the genius that designed that gear shift knob?
How does A/C and hydraulic pump works in electric cars ??
hey how your fridge works btw?
For me only problem is still range anxiety. Even if you use Leaf with leafbox (range extender) and 30 kWh battery, you can drive 220 km or so. This is far to short range comparing to any Tesla (ANY!) and Bolt/Ampera-E or new ZOE.
Nissan should focus on changing batteries to 40 and 60 as standard, not 24 and 30. Otherwise - it will soon disappear from market.
Opel Ampera-e full driving review coming up in about a week with the 60 kWh !
Wow! 227km range on a 30kwh Leaf? Damnnn....
at the first approach this car looks ugly, but with time it sarts to grow on you.
Orly drawback is still range. 250km would be nice if it meant 250km on highway constant speed of 120km/h
It's not a bad little electric, but when I look at it, I have an urge to throw it into a pot to make turtle soup.
Gostava de saber se é possível alterar de 24 Kwh para 30 Kwh Nissan Leaf Acenta
5:15 every car electric or not is required to have a 12v "classic" battery, even tesla model s/x has one
Where is that small battery located in Model S and X?
+Santeri Miettinen i ll find out more about that
+David NL it used to be behind the nose cone in model s but since the facelift it has been next to the hepa filter and is no more user accessible. In model x I believe it's also next to hepa filter

Hi Thomas (1) mit Thomas (2), I also watch many different reviews from different commentators, yes you are the best in every way.
It would be nice to find a standard (: /£ pan-European * charging price, it would also be nice to replace the CHADeMO with a type 2.

thanks so much! You mean retrofitting the charging standard?

yes, its seems very odd sometimes.
I Love the rear of the Nissan LEAF ! But the front is only ok.

Thanks and well done ....
How much range you need?
Agreed... Concept: excellent the looks: terrible!
Totally agree

The EV is a sucess in france , first market in europe.
