  • I have been looking forward to publishing this video. So many people dream of chartering a yacht for a special vacation, but are not sure of how to go about it. In this video the experienced charter broker John Cichanowicz speaks with great transparency about the process and the costs associated with yacht charter.

    I recently chartered a yacht and I can recommend two more things. Have the broker confirm with the captain that all the water toys listed for the yacht are on board and in working condition. Also take a picture of the fuel gauge BEFORE you start your trip. Any mistake on the amount of fuel used can be very costly.

    I like the variety of things you are giving us now. Definately improving this channels output with every video. I've worked security during FLIBS in the past, and also smaller boat shows around Florida, what seems like a million years ago. Apart from asking about private submarines, I'd be interested in a "toys & tenders" focused series as well, that all seems to get glossed over for the most part.

    Another follow-up question for this: who pays the broker fee, is it the charterer or the owner of the yacht? How is it normally structured? Is it a % of the charter fee, or also of the incrementals for food / fuel / etc.?
    Thanks a lot for the series.

    Another great video. I think you missed a very good question to ask and that is covid. How has that changed chartered yachts. Are the guests required to be vaccinated now? Are the crews? Does it determine where you can cruise and ports you can get off the boat at? Pets they would have to stay on the yacht the whole time. Even if you are at a secluded cove for a beach bbq that would be breaking that countries laws. Would the Captain allow It? Love the videos and if I get enough money I know where I'm going for a yacht.

    Now that explorer yachts are getting bigger and more are being produced, besides Nord, how many other charter yachts to the 'off beaten path' are out there now? Places like Alaska were just getting popular when I worked on yachts, but you would hear occasionally about boats going to Antarctica, Iceland, Greenland, the fjords of Norway and the Artic Circle. Obviously Nord and a few others do that but at extremely high prices. Are there smaller explorer yachts now making these trips? What about these hybrid trips that get you on a yacht, but then also take you fishing, diving, camping from another smaller yacht. We did this when I crewed fishing boats like Vikings, Mickelson, and Jarret Bay yachts. We would link up with a yacht in the Caribbean and take a couple guests on board and take them fishing for 2 or 3 days and then take them to the yacht usually docked in another port by then. Now most yachts have chase boats, but is this still done?

    Hi David, great interview and good information, but about the yachts that's 70 or eighty feet in length for Chartering. Also some cannot spend that much money but want to charter a yacht?
    Also the biggest Question is do people AKA share the cost of chartering a yacht?

    As an owner, what is a realistic expectation for occupancy rate of a chartered yacht? If it’s available for say, six months out of the year in a prime location, how many weeks would you expect to be booked?

    Wondering, does the opportunity to actually tour the yacht of choice before the charter exist?
    Not every chef cooks to everyones taste, how is this important item addressed in determining which yacht to charter?
    More simply, how do I know I will like the food?
    Thank you, JIM

    Hi David. Nice series of "How to..." videos. I've got 2 questions: 1) How long ahead should one separate the yatch to charter having into account that seasons are crowded?
    2) Can one charter a yacht off season?

    • @Yachtsforsaleblog
      @Yachtsforsaleblog  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Federico, thanks for the question. I shall answer it in a "Short" video! I'm not sure I understand the first part though - do you mean how far ahead of time should you book?

    QUESTION: so if chartering a 45M yacht for one week is about €300K, and let’s say a family wants to charter a yacht four weeks per year… Would it not be better to just buy a 45m yacht and then offset your cost by chartering it, and then, when you sell the yacht, the depreciation would cost less than the cost of 4 weeks a year of charter? 4 weeks at €300,000 = €1.2 million. Thoughts David?

    Strange question but.. the questionnaire will ask "how much caviar" will i want to eat. Well since I do not like caviar lets say shrimp. How do I know how much shrimp I want to eat or wine I want to drink Six months, 3 months (etc.) Before the trip. How would I judge this?

    • @grondhero
      @grondhero 2 роки тому

      Think about how much you would want to eat on vacation. Do you want it every day? Once or twice? And then how many people would be eating shrimp? You probably don't have to put the actual weight, but the number of total meals.
