WE TOOK A LITTLE TRIP DOWN FOR A LITTLE BIT OF SUMMER FUN. I THOUGHT I WOULD SHOW YOU THE DISABILITY ACCESS, AND HOW I WHEELCHAIR TRANSFER ON AND OFF THE RIDES.

After suffering my spinal cord injury i have really had to adapt in life. So Im showing you my disability lifestyle to raise disability awareness. As a disabled woman and a woman in a wheelchair who is paralysed, I thought it would be interesting for you to see, and hopefully give you some inspiration and motivation so that you can live more independently. wether you are paraplegic or quadriplegic I hope that I can help you. Took my nephew who’s autistic to Chessington for the first time last week and honestly so shocked at how bad their disabled entrances were!! So many steps!! Love the park but it’s shit if your wheelchair bound or can only weight bare!!

I think it is too soon to be going to any amusement park... and look at all those people not wearing masks. The wooden roller coasters are the ones that are harder to ride for me.

DB Looks so grown up. She also looks really helpful with some of the smaller things that are an issue for you that wouldn't be an issue for a non disabled parent.
I've never been to Paultons Park but it is my closest theme park so I will have to go myself and actually be able to go on most rides unlike a few others that I've been to before
You have helped me learn so much about myself and my disability now I'm becoming a more frequent wheelchair user, and finding somewhere I can comfortably spend a day with the family can be harder than I realised it would be. This video has just inspired us for a new family trip out thank you

I noted your problems on Critter Creek - I get that too. To get round this I carry a wide Velcro band and bind my legs together just below the knees. Hope this is useful.

How bizarre that they don’t accept your dla or pip letter I think that should be changed what a waste of time and resources going to the gp for a letter and no good if you simply decide on the spur of moment to go on day out
It’s so much easier when you are in a wheelchair atm with queing for the shops yet if I’m walking using my crutch or pushchair you don’t get any que jumping which is hard as I need the question jumping more when I not in my wheelchair

I have trauma related to this park so it was difficult for me to watch but I want to go back at some point to make better memories so thank you for the video.

As a theme park enthusiast i found this video very interesting. Seeing how seat design makes transfers difficult at times.

Just curious how they measure the height of someone in a chair to ensure they make the height requirement of the ride if that individual can't stand without assistance
Oh my gosh; it makes me so happy to see this. My partner and I are planning kids but like I mentioned in an earlier comment I suffer from a degenerative tissue disorder and already use a cane. I was crying about all the stuff I thought I wouldn't be able to do with our kids - and yet you're so wonderful to your kidlet! You bond and go out and all the normal parent stuff... I mean... You know I should know right? We're just normal people.... but since we never SEE that in the media we feel like we can't have normal lives....? Or I don't anyway. I thought... will I be able to hold my babies and do all the laundry and take them to the park.... and yes, yes I can. LOOK AT YOU! I know... I know it's just normal every day life... it's just so comforting to see normal for someone like yourself you know? (Or where I will be very soon. I already need the chair sometimes)

A Letter from you doctor to say you have an invisible disability so cannot queue? That’s disgusting. Getting a doctor to write a letter every time you want to go to the theme park is EXPENSIVE. A letter from a doctor cost me £15 (that’s was a couple of years ago and prices go up) last time just to say I have epilepsy to get my bus pass.
I'm not in the UK so I'm not sure but you may be able use the same letter if you get a general one stating you have epilepsy and can't do certain things, to show to each park?
Theo for me thankfully I don’t need a pass all the time. I was just making out the cost of getting a doctor letter can be expensive so it is not great for the park to use that form of verification. Yes if you are going to multiple parks close in time to each other you probably could get one letter but if you are going to them months apart then you would have to get a new letter each time. This all adds up unfortunately. Also even the initial cost of the letter could mean that said person would have to save up even longer to be able to afford to go on their day out as It’s an added expense. Plus letters to excuse you from things (in this case queueing) cost more than a letter for a bus pass which is essentially (otherwise you cannot travel) because a day out at a theme park is a luxury so doctors charge more.
Agree. They should in my opinion take your PIP, blue badge, disabled bus pass etc. Or make medical notes flaming free. 😡
If you have a chronic illness or disability it’s most likely not going to cure itself or go away. Why a letter from the doctor would need to be reviewed to only be written the same again months later is beyond me and I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this Emily. Forget me if this is rude but doesn’t the NHS fund doctors visits. I live in Australia and public appointments with general practitioners are free for Australian residents. Hope you are keeping safe and well in this time Emily! :)
Shealyn Douglas unfortunately when it comes to chronic illnesses even ones that you are stuck with forever many organisations do not accept a letter from a doctor that is more than 6 to 12 month from issue. Even with my bus pass my epilepsy will not go away the bus company wants a fresh letter from my doctor proving that I have epilepsy even though the bus company have on I have epilepsy.
Although a visit to a doctor is free if you want a letter from a doctor then you have to pay £15-£20 depending on why the letter is for. Also some places that may need a doctors letter you have to supply the original letter to them for them to keep (problem just show with the theme park not them keep) so if they do have to keep the letter then you will have to pay for another letter for something else that needs a letter shown.
Thankfully I don’t have to give proof of my condition too often but for those that need a pass regularly they may need to ask the doctor 1 to 2 times a year or a letter for them to be able to do a trip. This is wrong that the theme park is using a method that means customers are having to pay extra (getting a doc letter) when they may already have a blue badge or some other form of disability form.

Only inside. Technically we are meant to wear them wherever we within 2 metres (or 1 metre) but many don't care x
@@ecologist_to_be masks are required at Paultons Park by everyone over 11. It's a clear disregard for the rules. This is supprisingly common in the UK as only the police can inforce the mask rules.

You are definitely braver than me. I would have gotten sick on all the rides, I always got motion sick but after having Bear my vertigo has been a mess as well and Bear is now 12. I can definitely sympathize with you not feeling well.

Thank you so much for sharing the accessibility of these British attractions as we all know that when you speak to these places on the phone or look at the websites the accessibility issue is often very different when you get there and it’s so disappointing when you go somewhere for a family day out and you end up sitting on the sidelines in your wheelchair holding back the tears and smiling for the kids.
Daisy is growing up so fast. The parking looks awesome. The place looks pretty accessible except for some of the steep ramps and actual access to get onto the rides . That’s a bit hard for those with invisible disabilities though. However at least they do have their workers trained to deal with those at the rides that do have disabilities. The ride with the bucket seats would have been difficult for me. My hubby would have had to lift me into it. It looked like you were strapped in well though. You do so well with the crowd watching as you get in and out of the rides. I’m adjusting to that still but doing better. It used to keep me from even attempting things if there was a queue. I guess all in all it was pretty accessible and looks like you had a great time
Thank you for sharing your day with us. Looks like you all had a great time. I have yet to go to an amusement park since I became a wheelchair user, but hope to go soon to Busch Gardens in Tampa, Fl. I have to check to see how they handle wheel chair users before we go, It should be about the same as how your park handled it, we will see. The only obstacle I can see is that it is hilly at the park, and my husband is disabled as well so he won't be able to push me as much as I will need and they want 50$ to rent an electric scooter. How ridiculous is that? Good Lord by the time you buy tickets you don't have the $$ to rent an electric scooter.

I did a disability access review at titanic Belfast a couple of weeks ago. They have this really cool accessible ride.

4:28 First ride of the day heavy, single directional outward opening gates, that should be lighter and swing both in and out for wheelchair access, and also a narrow up slope ramp for wheelchair access to the ride. The wheelchair access for that ride would be inaccessible for my 20inch wheelchair, seeing how little space you had for access with your wheelchair.
8:22 Difficult to open 'accessible' toilet doors. That's bad for wheelchair users who might go to this place on their own without a helper.
Flight of the Pterosaur ride.
They need to fix the wheelchair exit pathing, seriously. What you said about it being difficult to exit on your previous visit, and it still being the same way on this one, isn't good for accessing the ride.

16:15 getting into the dinosaur ride. Having to use the steering wheel when transferring, doesn't look safe or secure, on top of how awkward and tight it already is.

If I went on those rides like you did with my bony bum I'd have a bloody pressure sores on my bum and back after I left the park.. You're very lucky.. I'm a T6 paraplegic, but my paralysis has atrophied my body so much.. I can't sit anywhere without a ROHO cushion..

Have you thought of writing reviews on places like Euan's Guide where you rate and review the accessibility of places and add photos and share your experience so other people can read this and find places to go that meet their access needs e.g. changing places and toilet facilities, parking, customer service, information is accessible formats etc. You state your access needs e.g. 'wheelchair user' so other wheelchair users can see that your review comes from the point of view of another wheelchair user.
We went to paultons this weekend, my daughter has a special needs stroller and I was surprised they didn’t make me provide proof for the access passes as they now have updated their training to recognise the stroller as a wheelchair and no longer require wheelchair users to have access passes. I had the same issue with the exit for flight of pterosaur, we rode it like 5 times and I think I took a chunk out their gate each and every time trying to get out 🤣 All the staff were great though. The only issue we had was the queens coach ride the lift wasn’t working so people who couldn’t do the steps wouldn’t be able get on at all , we were told to just climb up the exit and let them know her chair was at the bottom and luckily we timed it well so no one was coming down at the same time otherwise that could have been awkward!

I am handicapped roller coaster enthusiast i think you should go to busch garden Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay because it have more roller coasters than Poulton Park and it is more thrilling than paulton Park and most roller coasters are transferring accessible , but you should try it first it just my opinion everyone is different and hope you have fun

I'm sorry you felt so poorly after some of the rides.
You could ask if they'll let you bolt it to a fence whilst you go on the ride.
Also remember to wash your hands before and after touching your mask. You may have been doing it but didn't film it. I recommend ear savers as keeps mask on in my experience. lol
I went to Disney in a chair around 2010 time frame. This was before Disney changed to a "qualification" system. They had to do this because people took advantage of the disability system according to Disney. I think that more "invisible disabled" showed up and even though we can wedge ourselves out of a ride and stand or take 3 steps at a time they thought people were faking? Even with all the knowledge about invisible disabilities people are still really judgmental even within the disabled community in the states. There still seems to be a higher archery of disabilities here. I'm a member of several power chair communities and even they seem judgmental with comments like "well whatever it takes to get you the help you need" comments when asking about the evaluation for a power chair process... and they learn you are semi ambulatory.
BTW, the leg spread issue you had in a few rides. I found a Velcro strap helps keep them together as a temporary solution if you only need it for 5 or 10 minutes. Any longer than that I worry about cutting off blood circulation.
Most difficult to get out of at Disney was the "Small World" ride. The boats are so low and tight. I'm 6ft tall so trying to do the arm wiggle wedge thing to climb out was embarrassing and took a few moments longer than I wanted. I also had a strange feeling about "cutting the que". In 2010 I was only in a chair for about 1.5 years so I still had a ton of hang ups I had to get over. At the end of the day we got a place right at the edge of the curb for the parade. I thought I had a good spot for visibility at my height. NO... I had people stand on the street in front of me and then I had a lady stand on my feet on my power chair. I yelled but she ignored me or didn't hear. I put the chair in reverse and dumped her on the ground taking out two other people as she fell. Her man friend/husband started to turn around and fight until he saw me in a chair and then said, you stood on his feet/chair. You deserved that... lol
I live near a place called “Worlds of fun” in kansas city. They try to be accessible but it has so many hills and the ground gets so hot. In a push chair you would definitely need someone to push you up some of those hills.
I went there as a kid! How do the hills compare to silver dollar city? That is my favorite park because of the shade but the hills are nearly impossible with my chair even with assistance
PotsAndPups I have not been to silver dollar city so i’m not sure. But part of my biggest issue with WoF is there is no shade anywhere. Like standing in line or walking. It’s so bad. The ground is all black top so you can feel the heat though shoes sometimes. I’ll definitely have to check silver dollar city out. we planned to go buy covid
Blue the service dog silver dollar city doesn’t feel like a theme park at all. My sister had the best description of it. The park feels like if a cracker barrel gift shop had a roller coaster in it. There is so much to do besides just rides.
They are also great with service animals. You just go to guest relations they ask the 2 legal questions and you get a paw print stamped on your ticket so they know you are approved. You can ride the steam train with your dog but not anything else (unlike Disney).
It is in the ozarks which are mountains so the hills are insane. There is even one so steep that you can’t take the rental electric carts on because you risk the brakes giving out. There is an alternative longer route though that is less steep!
PotsAndPups I will definitely have to check it out and let the other people in our local meet up group. None of us have ever taken our dogs to WoF. it’s to hot and they have to stay in kennels during rides and they aren’t in shade. Not worth it. I’m excited to see Silver dollar though!

you know those type of belts moving people and such wear for support, maybe that be useful for you so shauwn could grab u by that and lift u out of those deep seats and rollercoasters and whatnot

If i asked my gp for a letter to not just go on the rides but for queing he would refuse because its a waste of his time for such a silly thing

There is a water park in America - San Antonio, Texas to be exact.] It's called, Morgan's Wonderland. I've never been there myself, cause I moved. But I heard It was made with handicap people in mind.
I know you had a not so great experience with water parks before, But it may be worth checking out.
