Ok.. so the end of the phrase at 0:52 ~ the chord he strums three times. The highest note changes 3 three times but with what seems impossible in so far as how his left hand is locked in. Anyone? It's seriously amazing he found that gem of an idea and is doing it so effortlessly as a one off lick in one of his many If I'm Unworthy intros. Respect
Its so great to hear what I think the greatest guitarist alive struggle through a performance! He's a beast but he's still human. I find that so inspiring.
Yeah something strange seems to be going on with his rig for sure. An awesome performance none the less. Love the way he rides the volume to make those blistering slide licks come from nowhere.
Hey folks - just chiming in. If you check out some of his other live tunes that chunky broken bass segment is part of his tone. To me it has always seemed like a way to get a differentiation - to be able to distinguish the bass and lead tone when he is playing solo. Adds a second layer.
I know what you mean isla. That super fat bass sound he gets akin to a blown out speaker cone is part of what I love about his tone - and I agree that it adds a second layer. Although I think something in his rig is on the brink of a meltdown in this clip. At around 1.40 it looks like he's put off by the splashy popping in the reverb - and then there's the bit at 4:41 where all the volume drops out during the crescendo. Still an awesome raw performance. Would be awesome to see more clips from this session.
sounds like either a problem with the jack input, or the guitar lead. I've had the same thing happen to me and it's not pleasant. If that was me up there I'd have stuck the guitar through the amp, he kept very calm.
It's for sure on purpose - he plays through an old modded amp that came from a video projector. There's even a Walrus Audio pedal that emulates that tone that came out after he started using them. Don't mistake "unique" for "bad". It's very limiting.
I would love to study under Blake more than any other musician right now.
Same..
5:00 is so unreal that sound! rips right through the air
Best pinky’s in the game.
An absolutely unique and wonderfully gifted player. There is no other quite like him, he is a blessing to the guitar!

He's strumming the same chord, he's just holding off on the bottom two strings at first.

This guy shines.
44!
Self-fulfilling and devious ...
This version is totally unappealing.
What a great player, despite what seems to be his rig messing up on him.
