In the German replies Mahler gets a lot of heat because of an old story of a female ex-employee who tried to play the harassment card and failed. Mahler is very open about what this person did and still people attack HIM and not her.
Same with Alexis Kennedy and Failbetter. All the evidence points to a psycho ex but the company sided with her and still people try and drag him for it despite their being a mountain of evidence to the contrary. Support his newer games from his new company Cultist Simulator and Book of Hours.

I bought the Early Access last week, it's been a hoot
I will never buy an Early Access game on principle but I can recommend the 2 Ori games without hesitation.
It’s in early access currently. Came out with some issues and got mixed reviews, but they’ve been crazy effective at rolling out fixes in rapid succession. They’re listening close to the fans and definitely know what they’re doing, I think it’s going to be big success.

ESG snuck heavily into gaming in 2021 because investors saw the huge amount of people playing games while in lock-down and decided to drop a ton of money into the industry. We're starting to see the back end of that trend now: lots of absurd corpo diversity demands and lots of failed AAA projects that were bad ideas that got too much money.
It actually started earlier than that. One example being monster hunter 4 ultimate's translation, and even earlier with mega man battle network series in the early 2000s. Their firststrike imo was on the Japanese media that was ported to the west, before it became more pronounced in 2014, then more in 2017, and full blown by 2020 and up.
This preceeds the pandemic by a loooooooong time.
Don't forget big AAA games take 3-6 years to be made.
This stsrted around 2015, when corrupt ideologues escaped the shortlived victory of GG to create consultancies

Activist prog translators have been a problem for years and consumers should demand *accurate* translations to get them out of the industry, but ESG is very specific and about conforming to DEI standards in order to recieve investment capitol from big lenders.
While I'm sure some version of that has happened before, it really didn't take off like the trend we've seen recently in the gaming industry until rather recently. One or two companies might've been doing that in the past, but over the last few years several companies have hopped aboard this train in order to procure funds.

We would need companies that decide to vet their potential employees on the subjects first in addition to not taking esg handouts, in order to correct this. i did a couple weeks back and I am halfway through the second one. Very different feels to each but improvement on the first. Although I like the first one for ranged combat more but maybe that is just unlocked late in 2.
Fun gameplay and satisfying visual story telling.
I like side scrollers and both are well worth a play, or a few in my case lol
It's well worth it. Just completed the games about 6 months ago, and I don't even like Metroidvania style games.
Always loved them. I even bought Ori and the Will of the Wisps artbook because the art is amazing and the soundtrack by Gareth Coker is excellent as well.
I bought it years ago, and don't really like it, but the wife did, so I guess it must have something.

That thing about the discourse never being about *the issue*, but rather about the revolution hit home for me. I experienced exactly that last week.
I started a petition to get Japanese companies to create and enforce guidelines for localizers because, as you probably already know, games, anime and manga that get localized get completely butchered, rewritten, censored and the people behind it know we hate and love to brag about being responsible for ruining things for us consumers that just want the product in its integrity, just in a language we understand.
And boy, did I get mocked by a bunch of people on Twitter when I tried promoting it recently! Replies and quote retweets drawing attention not to the argument but to the strawman they made of me, calling me an incel, telling me to touch grass, calling the entire thing a waste of time... but nobody engaging negatively with my posts ever made an argument in favor of localization or pointed out flaws in the petition itself.
All they did was have an emotional reaction to someone making rational arguments and ran with it. Not because they had opinions about the issue of localization, but because they saw someone who did! It was never about the issue, it was just about punching someone down whom they deemed an acceptable target.

As a fan of Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk 2020, I can say it was always pretty progressive. It primarily focused on rebelling against corrupt megacorps, particularly the Rocker and Nomad character classes. Cybergen was even more explicitly so.
And to be fair, Night City in 2077 Northern California would naturally be pretty diverse. The medieval European analogue of the Witcher, though... maybe not so much.

in germany we (each seperate household) are forced to pay a monthly fee (not a tax) called "Rundfunk Gebühr" in theory it is meant to fund unbiased news. long story short: they aren't they are state news now. we are forced to pay so they can do as they please. you can't opt out. it doesn't matter if you are not listening to their stuff. Any news that is funded by the state is ultimately state news. We have NPR in the US and it's the same situation, except they stay pro-Democrat. No nation should have tax-payer funded news.

witcher 4 is going to be a cringe fest
I'd wager that one of the reasons why CD Projekt Red has opened up another development studio (who will create the next Cyberpunk game) in Boston USA, is to boost their diversity quota.
I think it's a first that a German games developer (and CEO!) spoke out against all of this (cancel culture, failure of journalism and anti-customer behavior of game corporations). If you wonder why it took so long, the risk as a German is bigger so it's very brave of him to do that.
The few german studios that exist are basically all supported with tax Euros, so the state forces several quotas on them. The german developer market is very insignificant as is, but most of them develop niche games, so they're not able to survive without government handouts. The only developers from Germany with some kind of mass appeal are Crytek and Giants Software (Farming Simulator).
@@WannabeShady90 The German media industry is small because foreign lobbyists from the US have lobbied from the beginning of the FRG for politicians to make laws to make it as hard as possible for media upstarts to prosper. However, all of this changes nothing about what I posted above. This is a first, and it's very brave for a German CEO and media industry person to do that.

@Razörfist : you missed the part in his bio where it said moongamestudios is situated in Vienna, Austria and not Vienna, South Dakota or another one of the 17 Vienna named cities in the US. As an editor of one of those mags said a while ago, if you give accurate reviews all that happens is that they dont send you advanced copies (so you can review them before release) in future and your magazine suffers because everyone else has already reviewed the game and theres no reason for someone to buy your mag.

CDPR peaked with Witcher 3, and they were pretty based till then. Unironically, the huge success of the W3 was their downfall. Since that time it was just a slow march towards woke agenda, and even political activism. They're not the same company that they used to be, probably due to new investors' money, and that a lot of OG stuff behind W3 left the company. I still remember that our local game media shilled so hard for the CP2077 that made me very suspicious of the final product.
My gut feeling told don't trust Cyperpunk I was right it was bad still is.
Most of the team that developed The Witcher 3 left after the game was finished.
You may as well ask for world peace while hoping JOURNALISTS starting doing journalism again . I don't fully blame the journalists as much as I blame who they work for . INDEPENDANT Journalism is flourishing atm the moment while mainstream media is dying off .

Germany here: This thing blew up quite a bit online. I was always a fan of Maurice Weber and I still am, but the CEO from Moongames made some valid points.
Personally, I'm totally fed up with agendas forced into video games and movies.

And like that games like Ori and No Rest for the Wicked just got a sales boost.

Personally, I agree with what the CEO of the Ori developer studio was saying, but I would address it to ALL games journalists rather than just 1 German games journalist website, and I would have probably spouted out a lot more curse words from my sheer rage at how much their ilk have destroyed my beloved lifelong hobby.

That's a great Twitter post, and I think many people feel the same way. It's interesting that they chose to attack him after... I can't help but wonder if they are looking for him to respond negatively to them or call them Nazis and then they can use that ammunition against him to prove that he always was a mean/hateful person. I hope he doesn't respond to any of the attacks and just leaves the people feeling ignored as they should be.

That's why I gave up attempting to be objective and logical with people.
My statements still reflect these traits but I no longer go out of my way to reach anyone through it. The logic I apply may be objective but I am oftentimes more bitter and aggressive when communicating. They don't seem to like that. And most either steer clear themselves. Or if one does engage, I usually get all the aggression out eventually and am able to more easily drop the back and forth without even reading their last word. As it's endless with those types anyway.
