Christine Lamprea, cello
NEC Philharmonia w/ Hugh Wolff conducting
April 18, 2012
Jordan Hall
チェロの音楽のなかでも超難曲。チェリスト泣かせの作品。しかし、とても魅力的な旋律に溢れています。
this is one of the most intriguing cello concertos to listen to
"Intriguing" is an apt word. One learns something about something listening to this performance of the work.
1. Allegro moderato 0:27
2. Andante sostenuto 13:40
3. Molto allegro e appasionato 21:22
Magnifique prestation d'un orchestre et d'une soliste jeunes néanmoins très doués, tous.
Wonderful performance, strong and lyrical from the soloist and organised and logical from the excellent youthful orchestra and conductor. When i think back to my first LP, conducted by the composer, and remember what a shambles it seemed; how far we've come with students handling this technically demanding piece with such aplomb. So good to hear, i wish there were more performances of this work with its rich vein of melody and memorable moments. Bravo all, and thank you for sharing.
Samuel Barber, a giant among composers. One of the most demanding cello concertos. I am familiar with Hugh Wolf, but never heard the NEC. They were flawless and up to the task. Congratulations to the orchestra and to Hugh for his leadership. Of course lastly, Christine Lamprea, congratulations not only on a brilliant performance, but on the courage to tackle this piece and the strength and wisdom gained by both playing it and sharing it with us.
you prolly dont care at all but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Muhammad Ivan I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm.

Thanks so much you really help me out :D
@Maximilian Tommy happy to help :)
Related to Warren Scharf?
What's up Christine!? I was just looking up this piece because I love it and I was delighted when your performance came up first. You sound so great! Hope you are well!
Rather COLOSSAL.....Wow......BRAVA from Acapulco!
Absolutely wonderful! She makes sound so easy! Fantastic Cellist, I can not wait to see her live in concert next time she is in San Antonio, TX! :)
.....Or in Acapulco.....BRAVA!
huge work admirable…
Fabulous interpretation, I Love this conerto
amen to that. i've played this concerto myself, and yes, that section is QUITE a pain. hours and hours of drilling. :P
Stunning thank you Christine
*WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE! VERY GOOD! I MUST TO PLAY THIS CONCERT!* ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Good
Incredible cellist! Best regards Christine! F.
What a great performance. Brava! Love the Barber's music. I worked for 10 years in West Chester Pa and never visited his grave. One promise to do so one day.
Amazing unknown concerto, and a beautiful performance.
I was listening the Mozart trio in which you play, when I saw your last name. Immediately I said to myself :es colombiana.
Excellent performance Christine. I subscribed in your UA-cam channel.
The concerto is done for her at 3:40(relief on her face), Leonard Rose called them turds, not thirds. Said,"I'll play it once, but never again..."
Those thirds/sixths are indeed nasty, but in my opinion there are scarier things yet to come in the piece...
@@Kwertlike what?
@@andrewanderson3016 Mostly a lot of really nasty stuff in the third movement.
@@Kwert ok
Just saw her in Allentown, Pa. What a performance!
Not going to apologise. Simply could not take my eyes off 2nd violin. Absolutely lovely, with a whole world of personality displayed.
brilliant performance of a fiendishly elegant piece
Great Performance! bout time someone uploaded a quality video with orchestral accompaniment. Only bone to pick with the playing would be the spontaneous re-composing of articulations an dynamics throughout the whole first mov. Im all about creativity, but there were a couple moments where I thought to myself "thats not what Barber wrote". Still loved it!!! Congratulations!!!
A tremendous performance of a very demanding cello work. Thank you for posting this 11 years ago.
fan de classique, romantique, ce genre de concerto me déconcerte il faut une oreille habitué pour ce genre de musique hélas pour moi
Bravo!
SHE PLAYS LIKE A DREAM, BUT SHE HERSELF IS AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL.
christine! it's dan smith from BUTI all those years ago... you sound f***ing awesome! Hope everything is good...Dan.
What an amazing dress!
rockstar
NEC = New England Conservatory.
A somewhat sui generis cello concert. Here and there sounds more like a chamber music "au grand enseble", involved in clear subjacent nostalgy. A piece to be heard again. Thank you.
C'est quelle musique !
I will never, never, ever buy anything that advertises at mid-movement of a Barber Concerto!🥵 Or Beethoven or Rachmaninov or Tchaikovsky etc. Get the picture!
Même si c'est pour acheter le dernier disque de Christine Lamprea ?
I am mostly new to Barber. For whatever reason i have not listened much, not even the famous Adagio for strings. Lets see what happens.
Thanks for coughing right at the end of the second movement 🙄
21:00 turn volume down, 💩
This is well played moment by moment, but there is no sense of the larger line of the music. It feels like lots of little fragments stuck together. Apart from the obvious tunes, I feel like the natural recourse is always to play staccato and detached.
Feel exactly the opposite, TBH, esp. when compared with e,g the Zara Nelsova recording, which has a rather chopped up quality.
Is it difficult to learn to play the cello?
Of course not. "Cello" means "easy"in Slavonic.
I've been at it for over three years with a good teacher. It's a slow arduous yet rewarding process.
To play? No. To play well, yes.
Yes! It is notoriously difficult.
Yes! Not easy ! My friend!
21:20 3rd movement
For the double stops at 3:23, do you need to develop calices in your fingers? My fingers start to calice every time I try that section, so I just need confirmation.
If you manage to practice that part enough to play it in tune and you DON'T have a callous, then you probably didn't practice it enough lol. That passage is a huge pain and your callouses should be sore. :)
Quel musique étrange ; impossible de savoir si les notes jouées sont justes ou_ pas !
I wish I was her cello
Samuel barber is the greatest American composer and this performance here unfortunately is not
is it me or should anyone who plays cello not wear a dress because it makes it look weird....
And without?
I love Barber, one of my favorite composers, but I'm sorry to say I didn't like Christine Lamprea at all. I've heard this concerto by many cellists and it's a superb concerto. But certainly not this interpretation.
