Years ago I got some NPO AEG plum AK mags for my E&L. Only 1 out of the 4 fit the rifle. I eventually made metal shims to build up the rear locking lugs and made the magazines fit and feed in my rifle.
To add some usage data for your test - I run an E&L AK74 airsoft replica and had feeding issues with half of the E&L midcap magazines... so I decided to use regular CYMA AK74 midcaps instead. No feeding issues. At all. However fitment was a problem, as you mentioned in the video, as the locking tab that enters the magwell first had to filled down in order to actually fit. I ran those modified magazines for about 2 years and... 2 of the CYMA magazines failed - those same filed locking tabs broke. Other than that I have to praise CYMA for their choice of springs used inside the magazine - the spring for the bb stopper is just stiff enough as to prevent bbs from leaving the mag when not loaded to the replica and then soft enough as there is no extra effort needed when the magazine connects with the feeding tube of the hopup chamber. Though compared to E&L they kind of messed up in regards to the securing pins - they used one extra pin and both of lower quality metal compared to E&L's.
Just a side note; with the E&L its incredibly picky with mags. I bought mine brand new 5 months ago and with all the Cyma mags I had to file down the mag catchs on both sides for it to fit and feed properly. Thank you for an amazing well researched and put together video.
The ones I generally try to search for now are the Cyma Polish 74 mags Metal outer shell means they're almost bomb proof, and the front feed lip is metal too so you'll never worry about breaking that part which is ALWAYS a problem for plastic mags even the good ones. You will break the front locking lug over time. You can also take the innards from other Cyma 74 standard sized midcaps and fit them in, which is a boom for longevity My current main AK is the Cyma CM040D which seems to have a wide range of compatibility with all sorts of mags. I did have Blue Box mags, in fact I had two boxes of them and all of them worked... Until one by one they broke over the years. I'm like down to two
Specna arms new AK mags are awsome! A year ago my team (25 players) made the shift from Cyma to Specna Arms and they have performed above and beyond. We also run them during the cold time here in Sweden and they feed flawlessly. A few members needed to do a small mod on their gun for them to feed (they sit a smidge lower in the mag well than a regular cyma mag).
CYMA and LCT Mags work perfectly in my E&L AK74MN. One advantage over E&L mags is their followers are longer and no BB remains in the mag after you "run out of ammo" so you can actually see they are empty. LCT followers are the longest and only 3 BBs drop out the HU feeding tube, while with the CYMA mags 4 BBs drop out.
@@GeneralGiffel I use the LCT low cap and CYMA mid cap plastic mags for my E&L 74NM. The LCT low and mid cap plastic mags also fit the E&L AKM. I haven't tried the metal mags for the 74 and AKM.
G&P AK-74 Mags and the G&G AK-74 Mags are the best AK magazines. The G&G AK magazines only fit if you remove the small raised area at the top. The best thing about these magazines is that they have the same dimensions as the real 5.45x39mm magazines. The ones from G&G are similar in appearance to the Bulgarian 5.45x39mm magazines. I use the G&G AK-74 Mag in my E&L AK-74U and it looks awesome!
Just going to give some feedback regarding Blue Box. They work great with my LCT RPK (with the LCT magwell spacer) and CYMA CM048 AK-74. The mags have a fair amount of side to side wobble with the CYMA but never seems to have any issues with feeding while it has a bit less wobble with the LCT (also feeds great). Note that the Blue Box mags i have came with a rather strong spring which can make them feed rapidly but can be a more difficult to load to capacity.
I've used clover airsoft midcap for about 4 months now have gone through about 10 reloads and they are great 2 mid cap polymers and 2 mid cap metal both hold about 200 and cost about $20
G&G did have some older AK models that used the specific magazine that did not fit in anything! And you’d figure nothing else fit in those AK’s! It was a nightmare lol
I have an E&L AK74N Diamond (Begadi) and an E&L AKS74UN Gen4 (Begadi). Only 1 of 4 E&L has often feeding problems. 4 Cyma mags fit well my 74N but sit very tight in the AKS74UN but still feed good. But, had problems with both guns not feeding, missfeesing and such with all mags with .32g Changed to .30g and no problems. And the last few game days i got problems with .30 A few days ago i tested both guns with 1 E&L mag and 1 Cyma mag and with .45 and the fed like they ware made for them. Before i forget it, the LCT Drum mag worked well with the AKS74UN.
I wish you would have replaced the Blue Box mag for the, the Blue Box are the only mag's that have fed my 35+ RPS CYMA/ RED STAR. Regardless, thanks for the work and video!!
Found out last weekend: Arcturus AK-12 variable mags. Tight fit in LCT RPK-16, but not rough Would not feed without being held into the gun. Unsure if it is because of the mag not meshing with the Combat Union hop up chamber, or just the spec differences between LCT and Arcturus. However, had no feeding issues with LCT AK-12 mid caps in the same set up. Will eventually attempt to use it in my LCT AK-104 with stock LCT hop up chamber
I've had issues with my E&L 105 so I just got E&L ak12 mags for it. I bought cyma ak74 polymers at first but they stood a little too loose in the magwell. I had some metal ones 7.62 style that were too tight in the magwell. So yeah just as the video suggests just get E&L mags and save yourself the headache.
i own several AKs from Cyma, LCT and E&L. the best feeding and functioning mags i encountered were made by Arcturus. they fit and feed in all of them, every bb weight, consistently without failure.
@@aliffyyy6696 they will certainly fit, but i can't speak for their function as i only have the regular 74mags and the "modernized" ones with the window. if i was you, i would buy one arcturus ak12 mag and see if it works. by my experience so far i would trust that brand, at least in terms of magazines.

@@Ubbah1 I did buy last boxes of 10 found on redwolf airsoft 3 years ago, 1 box of plum mags, 1 box of bakelite color (which is btw the most accurate bakelite color/pattern i've seen on replica magazines compared to other brands), 1 box of metal 7.62's. They're still running great. Also the Palmetto State Armory mags are probably even better but nobody like them because of how they look, they were chucky and akward to fit most on pouches and expensive, good thing they're virtually indestructible, have them for 8 years and they still work great. they don't make them anymore though.
The Cyma steel mags I have don't even fit in my Cyma AKs. 🙄 The only mags that will feed my Cyma AKs are the Cyma hicaps that came with them... the MAG brand used to work, but significant feeding issues now. PITA. lol
I have the LCT M70AB2 (Yugo AK) and the Cyma 7.62 mags do NOT fit ! They get stuck into the magwell and you have to take apart the mag release lever to be able to pull them out ! I use LCT mags for that reason
Love ya Eric, but I'm gonna say that I think you're wrong about the Blue Box mag when using it in CYMA guns. I have two CYMA AKs (AK105 and a very old AKS74u) that both love those Blue Box mags, to the point of feeding every BB except the last one or two. I think you just got a bad one which is just unfortunate. I have other friends with CYMA AKs that also use these mags and they report the same thing, No problems and one of the best feeding AK mags out there. And the wobble is never a problem. Nothing a small bit of soft side velcro can't take care of. Whether the velcro is there or not makes not difference in feeding. Also, my CYMA AKs have no permanent mag well mods that would skew these results I have. Maybe a small bit of velcro as said before and only on the 105. The only mag that I have found that does not feed well or at all in my CYMA guns is the LCT mags. They have all sorts of issues.
I think if we do more of these we're going to have to buy two examples of each magazine and use two examples of each gun. Airsoft quality control makes doing one-off tests much less representative of larger sample sizes.
i bought a combo of an cyma CM040 with a box of MAG ak74 midcaps and none of them feed properly or no feeding at all into the hop unit. after some testing (different follower, different springs, even 3 diferent replicas) all of them turned to be lemons.
What about pts Tpm's. They are loose in my cyma but feed flawlessly. They also fits tightly in my rpk 16 with some sight side to side movement needlest to say they feed. surprised the bulgerian mags don't work in the krytac because last I checked those were the best mags for the krytac according to Toronto airsoft because they tested 13 mags and It scored a 28 out of a possible 30 which was the highest score. Max was 5pts for each category and there were. Also bulgaoran mags if you can get them to fit ate a tight fit. Evwn in cyma but they seem to not fit lct or e&l but will fit a krytac and cyma verry snugly. Torontonairsoft tested then and they scroed a 28/30 for will it feed where. They test how much play, insert and jamming it in and theybfed fine. I have 2 bulgarian flashmags (the front lip broke off of one durring a game day) and they fit tightly in my cyma but they don't fit my lct. I also found a mag that will not fit some of. And it's the lct polymer drum that came with my rpk. Edit I found Tpm's retain 5 bb's in my rpk16.
Hmm, I own 6 blue box mags along side 7 Cyma and 2 LCT mags. The blue box mags were so cheap I couldn't refuse to try them out. They have been working great for the past 2 years I've owned them in both my CYMA (CM.040) and LCT (AK-74U). I let them get beat up without worry, only considering the PTS TPM ones now since I'm playing more CQB now a days and need to check my round count. Maybe blue box QC is all over the place?
Its quite possible there are some QC issues, but then again, what airsoft manufacture doesn't have QC issues! LOL! AIRSOFT! I have 9 of these Blue Box 74 mags and they are wonderful and my main mag I use in both my CYMA AK105 (heavily modded) and my older CYMA AKS74u (only slightly less heavily modified). I like them, they are fairly cheap and I find the quality to be great to above average (for airsoft stuff). I think that they work a lot better than most AK mags over all, just based on availability from time to time. People seem to like them a lot!

Would love to see someone chime in about Arcturus. My Arcturus AK12 doesn't seem to consistently feed any of my old cyma mags that my LCT loved.
D-Day mags work in Arcturus.
For me, the arcturus mags and mags that are smaller, since the AK12 is pretty tight.
I am using guarder and d day mags in my arcturus ak12u pe and works just fine

Yeah, filing down CYMA mags should make them fit E&Ls. Some mags you don't even have to file down; others it's just the back that needs filing.

Do you use the Cyma metal 74 mags? Also ive seen that Evike has LCT metal mags but they cost 50€ compared to Cymas 9€.

I use Bluebox mags with my CYMA AK's and haven't had any issues, fixed the wobble with electrical tape

I use the black cyma magazines with my e&l platinum ak74. You just have to file down the lip like a millimeter or so and your good.

I'm missing D-Day mags in the comparation. In my experience they fit great in LCT and E&L replicas, doesn't matter the model

I would say the G&P magazines are the best fitting for an E&L, but they're not in stock anywhere
Can confirm my old G&P magazines are also a great fit on my LCT, if only I could find more in stock somewhere I'd buy them by the box
