What cam did you use for this build? Sounds great 👍

I just bought a 1984, stock 302 with the hydraulic flat tappet cam. It's my first time working on a pushrod or carb engine. My year has the EEC-IV (I think)? Which I think your truck would have come with from factory as well? To my understanding it is some kind of electronic timing and carb setup. I believe the explorer motor you're using would have originally came fuel injected? I'm not able to recognize everything by looking at it yet but I understand the basics (like some people converting to the older duraspark, or a GM HEI. I'm just wondering what you did for an ignition system? And if you had any issues getting it to work with the truck? Thanks! I want to put a better carb on mine but i'm having a hard time deciphering old forum posts on it.

@@northernninja3321 I went with the GM style HEI distributor, one wire runs the whole ignition system.

That’s pretty much what I want my ‘85 to sound like. Right now I have the bone stock 302 in it. Wanting to upgrade the top end and install headers plus I might no to a magneto ignition because I hate that EEC-IV system. Hoping to get at least 300HP. Curious what your thoughts are on components? Would you consider one of those Edelbrock top end kits a good idea?

@@gthree0239 edelbrock top end kits are decent but you could piece together your own kit for cheaper that would make more horsepower. If you can afford it, AFR heads or Twisted wedge heads will get you well over 300hp.

Head gaskets that are incorrectly installed will cause overheating.
