Fun fact: In the original Japanese releases of several Pokémon games (including the first ones), Nuggets are called “kintama”, and yes, they do make a joke out of it. It’s why there’s often an NPC that gives you a Nugget, and that NPC seems kinda shady sometimes.
In one Gen, the Nugget-giver’s dialogue got localized in the English version to him wanting to give you a “nugget of wisdom”, but in the original Japanese version, the pun is much more straightforward/misleading, making it sound like he wants to offer his family jewels.
Yes, this is real. It’s also why Nuggets are always perfect spheres.

My guess on why "golden balls" means testicles in Japanese is probably because throughout human history, gold has always been viewed as one of the most precious metals. It signified wealth, power, and influence among many nations. But another running theme throughout human history, probably due to patriarchal reasons or simply the reverence over something that quite literally creates new life (which is viewed as a miracle in itself), is making testicles out to be incredibly precious. You can see evidence of this in Japanese culture by looking at mythological tanukis, creatures with giant testicles who symbolize wealth and prosperity, though there's actually a more _literal_ reason why tanuki balls symbolize prosperity in that a very old tradition involved hammering golden leaves into real life tanuki testicles because they were insanely strong and stretchy, hence "balls of gold", kin no tama, or kintama. The giant tanuki balls are also supposed to represent a tanuki's shrewd and mischievous nature in that they never pay back what they owe, so in reference to how stretchy real life tanuki balls are, it's also a metaphor for "stretching one's dollar", how far you can go with the least amount of cash.

It’s funny, because watching Gintama is how I learned of both meanings behind the word, “kintama”, and why it’s considered yabai.

A lot of people assuming Kronii is just playing dumb.
No, if you've seen Kronii solve puzzles in games, this is about average for her figuring things out.

Japanese and their word puns. Gintama even mentioned this early on in the series because the only difference between the two words written in either hiragana or katakana is the ten-ten dash marks that change "ki" to "gi." Just like if your favorite fruit is mango and you forget the marks so you accidentally write that you like the flavor of "manko."

The tama in gintama mean soul so the word means silver soul. But the tama in kintama mean a sphere so the word means the family jewel.
