At 5:04...notice how he aligns the Leatherman jaws relative to the cordage strands. And NEVER pull toward your face or body. That way, if you are stronger than the cord, it slips, or breaks, you avoid smacking yourself in the face.
3:07 the atmospheric black metal intro kicks in ominously... Great video! Will definitely be adding this one to my "Things To Learn" notebook for my next dirt time.
Thanks for a Fantastic video and an EXCELLENT block of instruction. I recently saw the program that you and Dave did in Sweden,. In it the students were required to make the bucksaw, however there wasn't a block of instruction that I could see. Tried making one but it didn't come out right- IT WILL NOW! NEVER TOO OLD OR TOO PROUD TO LEARN! Just keep on "Charlie Miking" Respectfully, Doc Bates
great video and thanks for the shout out to Dave Canterbury, and as Dave says on many of his videos there is nothing new in the bushcrafting world its all been done before throughout time. Some people may not have seen Daves videos and find yours and now they can see Daves as well. Peace brother.
Although it is a little more complicated to make, the advantage I see to this is that it's easier to process larger diameter logs. The limiting factor here sends to be as much the length of the blade as the brace height of the saw.👍
Man, loved the video. Only thing you didn't cover was the choice of wood; live vs dead. When improvising this bucksaw you want to use live branches as they are more pliable and less prone to breakage. But again BZ, great info.
That's pretty good. I'm wondering though, you should try wrapping some more string on the ends of the sticks where the splits are after you insert the blade to keep it from falling out. If a tree grabs it, then its gonna.
You're so OCD, dude. What was with the spooky music in the middle of this? I was watching a vid on bush crafting a bucksaw, and suddenly I thought a forest goblin was going to come and eviscerate you. Keep up the good work.
What is the little saw that you used to make this bucksaw with? It looks like it does the job well and I want one lol. Another great video man, thanks for sharing. My wife loves your videos as well.
It is part of a swiss army knife. You have to buy one of the larger models with a 3" blade that also incorporates that saw blade. I have the Rucksack & it in my opinion has all the tools necessary that you need. It is not over done with excess items, A good basic camping tool.
CPL Kelly, I love all your videos. I have a question about this one in particular. You also posted a bow saw video using the same saw blade and a simpler design. My question is what are the advantages of putting in the extra effort to make a bucksaw when a bow saw will essentially get the same job done faster and easier. Your videos are always knowledgeable and you train in an understandable fashion. Keep it up devildog.
I'm going to guess one reason, though I'm sure there are more - the width of the handle. It is easier to work with a larger handle, easier to grip.. but you can't bend a tree limb that thick to make a bow saw. So it's comfort vs simplicity. The bow saw would be more difficult for anyone with arthritis or fibromyalgia and such, so it's good to have that alternative option. Also, hiking with a bow saw is much easier than hiking with a buck saw. Though I'm sure Corporal will have more reasons why one over the other.
this is a great video. what are the advantages to using a bucksaw vs a bow saw? the bow saw seems simpler to make. lighter in weight, less cumbersome, and does the same job. thoughts?
Thanks for going to the trouble to assemble the video and publish it. I learned something. (I'm always learning something!) I love the use of the spent grenade pins! That made me laugh. My serious question is what saw blade are you using and why?
***** Perfect and something I would not have thought of. I could buy three of them -- one for kit, one for car, and a backup for less than a meal at McD's! :) Well done, sir!
Question: the bucksaw seems like it's a lot more work to assemble than the bowsaw. Do you find any great difference between the ease of sawing with the buck vs. bow? I noticed that the bucksaw has a larger span between the blade and the tension beam than between the blade and the bow (allowing for processing of larger timber), but are there any other points that make the bucksaw preferable? Thanks for the awesome video!
Adrea Brooks you can use the buck saw with two hands more comfortably than a bow saw and the extra weight will assist the saw in helping to cut more per stroke.
Adrea Brooks Nice. I saw you posted hour comment after I replied, sorry. I just made a buck saw this afternoon out of oak. It seems to work ok, it's a little awkward because I'm used to a bow saw and a folding saw. I have been crafting things quite a bit lately and I enjoy new challenges. Good luck and God Bless.
Can't get enough of the corporals corner!
Wish I'd have found years ago!!!

Good on you. Solid, well crafted saw with little more than a swiss army knife.
Always improving but consistent. Thank you!

gotta remember this when my buck saw breaks thanks again for the video

You are a true teacher. Slow enough for a beginner to follow and enjoyable to watch.

Nice . Good presentation. I'm in. Look forward to more.

Can't hear your video but that was ok pretty explanatory.
Some of you need to get a grip, Cpl is far from a thief. The whole idea of learning is to pass it on.
Nice quick video.
like the bucksaw good bush craft learning.
Great video as always, Shawn! Where was that place that you were walking in the outro? Looks pretty cool. Semper Fi.
kpw528 The Iron Goat Trail, thanks for watching
What are the advantages of the buck saw over the bow saw? Looks like the bow saw is a lot easier to make.
Buck saw creates a greater tension on the saw blade so it bends less and makes sawing a lot easier.
How much use do you get out of this saw before its worn out. We talking weeks, months, years?
Brandon Nobnarb Hopefully a lot of use, Thanks for the views
If you didnt have a leatherman, i would leave a long tail to place a toggle in a marlin spike hitch to pull the bank line through.
That was very informative thank you for your video would you mind if I sent that to my friend
Ok, when would you use a bow saw rather than a buck saw, and when is the buck saw the prefered tool? what about other kinds of saws?
What kind of wood is that?
Oh never mind that was your bow saw video
Which saw do you prefer the bow saw or the buck saw. Both videos are bad ass af just saying.. 👍🏼
Thank you
Obrigada 😍
this is a great video. what are the advantages to using a bucksaw vs a bow saw? the bow saw seems simpler to make. lighter in weight, less cumbersome, and does the same job. thoughts?
The black carbon steel mora, great knife that's the one I have.
TwoFeatherChannel Love that knife, Thanks again
The bushcraft black is my favorite Mora and one of my favorite bushcraft knives till this day.
Thanks for going to the trouble to assemble the video and publish it. I learned something. (I'm always learning something!) I love the use of the spent grenade pins! That made me laugh. My serious question is what saw blade are you using and why?
David Thompson Home Depot Special $2.99......why because it was cheap, lol. Thanks for the comments and support

Cool channel...subbed
I feel like I just watched this video about a week ago, but says July 26. Am I having Deja Vu?
If it ain't 🌧, we ain't training! Corporal AF!
What kind of knot are you using to tie that tensioning line together?

Adrea Brooks you can use the buck saw with two hands more comfortably than a bow saw and the extra weight will assist the saw in helping to cut more per stroke.
Wayne E. Thanks, Wayne! Since posting this last year, I have tried my hand at putting together a bucksaw, and it did indeed perform better.
Adrea Brooks Nice. I saw you posted hour comment after I replied, sorry. I just made a buck saw this afternoon out of oak. Wayne E. DIY is always good. The more you make, the more you learn, and the more you learn, the more capable you become. :)
OK this is bad ass
What's the golden ratio for handmade buck saw frame how deep can you cut
