    One of the most beautifully sad songs I have ever had the pleasure to hear. This and Adagio for Strings.

    4:40 " He does not return.. he does not return.."- with the violin screaming in lament, sends shivers down my spine; every single time. Very few things in music/art/literature/whatever come close to that moment .

    I found this song by accident about 20 years ago. I only heard about 20 seconds of it, when my cd player broke. I couldn't get that violin sound out of my head. I spent about 10 years trying to find it again. Most people I talked to called me crazy, or accused me of being high at the time. Fifteen years later while browsing through youtube it pops up in my feed..... OMG.... OMG...... I found it..... or did IT find me? Call me "crazy" now suckaz!!!!!!

      Indeed! And literally hidden as it was track zero on the first X-Files album. You had to hit the 'reverse' button on the cd player from track one to get to it.

    I walked into a pavement concert at the phonecian club in sydney 27 years ago and these guys were playing, the audience stood with mouths wide open, never heard or seen anything like it nor since, Warren had his back to us most of the show, what a band, I love Nick Cave but the Dirty Three need not another, that violin sound is heart wrenching tool and jim and Micks playing is the perfect partner,
    Warren was a poor , Junky musician back then making pennies off the scene in Melbourne and Sydney and getting known on the fledgeling festival circuit , Nick took him to London and he is poor no more, I think without him Nick would not be around
    or the bad seeds would have faded into a stupor. Nick has always had a bunch of irraplacable extroidinary artists to work with, Blixa, Barry, Conway to name but a few...
    some of those Dirty Three records are classics.....

    • @johnarundell7951
      @johnarundell7951 4 роки тому +3

      Nick didn't "take him to London" he found Dirty Three already making their mark and eventually invited them to support The Bad Seeds but it's not like they were nobodies playing dives and languishing in Australia only for Saint Nick to pull them from the gutter. Warren and Dirty Three are legends in their own right regardless of any connection to Nick at all. The Pavement tour was in 1994 and Nick coincidentally first saw Dirty Three live at the Prince Of Wales in Melbourne supporting them according to his recollection, but Jim and Warren had already recorded with him separately due to their work in the Melbourne music scene with various other bands.

    Wonderful....i remember it was one of the impossible secret tracks to the first X files soundtrack...the only way to play it was to 'backscan' to track -2 or so (the other one was the x files theme by the dirty 3)...but during backscanning, if your finger slipped off, you had to start again....and it was impossible to play these tracks 'normally'....even from a computer....ah, secret tracks.....annoying fun! :-)

    Australia, NZ, the US and Canada all imaginary, and yet cave was influenced by Americans? Hmm, I like a bit of logic in the morning.
    Whatever the influence, I'm still in sheer admiration for this bloke. And it's not the end product that I'm saying I'm impressed with, it's the origins - the fact that so few Australians do what Cave has done; adopt what he has adopted. He knows of what few Australians of the everyday variety know: culture and learning.
