They look and feel particular bonkers on UK roads which makes them not very attractive to own, but they are definitely head turners when you see them out and about.
Maybe the car is not capable of manouvering a course like this because it was built for oval tracks? Also most the time full throttle, so not so big in braking?
@@NN-cj6qv He definitely has it in him to at least go at a semi quick pace. He told someone in an interview, "I came all the way over to England to see people and let people see me so I figured I'd run slow so they'd have time to look at me." He was basically just showing off and doing a parade lap
NASCAR ran on an oval overseas at the Calder Park Thunderdome in Melbourne AU, in 1988. That was the first time they had ever run a race outside North America. The only other time I'm aware of is when they ran exhibitions in Japan from '96 - '98. It would be neat to see them race in England, but with the NASCAR season pretty much maxed out these days, and the expense of shipping the required equipment and manpower, I don't see that happening anytime in the foreseeable future.
A) It's the original car, not a tribute, so it's $$$$$$ B) He was pushing 80 years old when he made this appearance and hadn't driven the car in nearly 50 years.
King Richard drove Excalibur itself at Goodwood. Of course the cat is going to take a leisurely stroll. To have done otherwise could have caused an international incident.
It's driving "Parade Lap's" for show they should have done at least 1 fast lap to show how loud and quick the car is. British people aren't use to big cubic inch Race engine would be shocked
Car was straight out of the museum and hadnt driven under its own power for nearly 40 years, they wanted to show it and let him drive it, not break it.
Superbird spread it's wings in 1970 with a different body style and a big wing🏆👍 and do you know that your Sir name Darlington has the same letters, number of letters and order of letters of a real NASCAR race track🤗😏😂
Assuming a clone? If it is Richard Petty's legendary 7.0-litre V8 Plymouth Belvedere. Curious how it wound up over there? Definitely not an FOS track racer. :) :) :)
This is footage from a few years ago, this car and many others are in the Petty's museum, and is the real deal, as is King Richard ( both are the real deal that is, Mr. Petty isn't just in the museum yet).
I wish you would refer to cubic inches on American engine sizes instead of metric sizes . Richard Petty,s Plymouth had a 426 ci in Hemi not a 7 liter engine . The ford Galaxy,s hav a 427 cu in side Oiler engine not a 7 liter. You drive me nuts when you use metric sizes.
Do you mind? Richard was more than 70 at this point and this car is a museum piece, just like it left the racetrack in 1967. He and his family didn't want to see him get hurt or the car get crashed
Europeans steer with the front tires. Us knuckle dragging Americans use massive engines and steer with the rear! It's much more fun, scary, and dramatic all at the same time. ;-)
He went slow so people could look at admire the car. He said so himself. There's footage here on youtube of this exact car hitting 200mph winning races and championships from almost 50 years ago. Quit being a grouchy little hater.
The King 💪
To everybody saying he went slow because he's old, that's not the case at all. He said in an interview that he went slow so people could see the car
But even if he did go slow cos of his age, the King has probably earned the right to do so, but as you said he went slow so everyone could see the car
Hail to the King, baby! 83 years young today 👑 🎂 🏆
He's the same as anyone could imagine in person as one might see him on TV.

Crazy to think he won 27 races in that car in 1967
Beautiful car long live the king
American V8 ❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
I'm not a NASCAR fan at all, but my dad was HUGE, and he took me to races all the time when I was a kid. I was lucky enough to meet King Richard twice at his shop in Randleman North Carolina
This sound gives me eargasm
The King doing his thing 🏆👑
My father had one of these with the 440 super commando engine with 4.10 gears! Amazing car in its day!
Do the British typically like the vintage American V8's?
Who doesn’t!?
Not typically.
Not really but love the sound
Very much so
They look and feel particular bonkers on UK roads which makes them not very attractive to own, but they are definitely head turners when you see them out and about.
Richard Petty drives like an old man oh yeah I forgot he's an old man
He's a damn nice guy, though.
Maybe the car is not capable of manouvering a course like this because it was built for oval tracks? Also most the time full throttle, so not so big in braking?
Recent 83rd birthday!
He drove like that because he wanted to see the fans and enjoy the ride, not like young hot headed drivers
You have to remember this exact car has won more Nascar races than any other race car.
Open it up!!!!!
Let it breathe
I mean the dude was nearing 80 years old. If I was that age I probably wouldn’t have it in me to open that car up on a tight track

@0:45 seeing the 92 year old KING get hard in the throttle again was a flashback and an adrenaline rush
NASCAR really needs to take some of the modern cars and run an exhibition race at Rockingham (the one in England). That would be good for some fun!

This is one of my favorite Richard Petty race cars.
Second only to the Dodge Charger!
It doesn't seem weird seeing him drive cause I grew up as a kid in the 70s watching him race.
Before the gigantic Wang
I wish they pushed it more
"Doesn't get much more NASCAR than that." I can think of a different one...
Beautiful racing car
Like a drive in the park, he definitely wasn't on the throttle. Sweet car, no doubt.
Why they dont shut up and let us hear that wonderfull V8 sing?
He idled it up the course. Not much to hear
Win on Sunday, sell on monday days.
All hail to the Khang. The Chrysler 426 Hemi was a powerhouse.
426 hemi, 427 chevy, and don’t forget the 429 c.i. Ford
And the 428 Pontiac lol
I'm surprised he didn't nail it more. Long live the King!! Too bad Nascar is dead though...
Why's he driving it like he's on his way to Tesco
A) It's the original car, not a tribute, so it's $$$$$$
B) He was pushing 80 years old when he made this appearance and hadn't driven the car in nearly 50 years.
The right turns are throwing him off.
@@mfnd502 well spoken. Loser.
This car won the Piston Cup
"He did what in his cup?"
Back when Stock Car Racing actually had Stock Cars, not cutouts that barely resemble one over a frame and an engine.
Did he stay in first gear? :-)
Belvedere means "GoodLooking" in italian, usually used to describe a nice landscape.
Does UA-cam have to spoil the videos with the adverts
426 Race Hemi- single four barrel, cross-ram intake.
King Richard drove Excalibur itself at Goodwood. Of course the cat is going to take a leisurely stroll. To have done otherwise could have caused an international incident.
King Dinoco
Couldn't he drive it a bit slower? I can't stand all this raw speed.
It's driving "Parade Lap's" for show they should have done at least 1 fast lap to show how loud and quick the car is. British people aren't use to big cubic inch Race engine would be shocked
I only wish he would've driven it a bit harder.
Why is he going 20?
Car was straight out of the museum and hadnt driven under its own power for nearly 40 years, they wanted to show it and let him drive it, not break it.
Is this the original Superbird? You tell me.
Superbird spread it's wings in 1970 with a different body style and a big wing🏆👍 and do you know that your Sir name Darlington has the same letters, number of letters and order of letters of a real NASCAR race track🤗😏😂
What a moron.
It's to bed they weren't really pushing it instead of just Motoring around.
I mean both car and driver aren't really in their prime anymore.
Bonito coche, pero,... Pisenlo... Que pa eso está!
Assuming a clone? If it is Richard Petty's legendary 7.0-litre V8 Plymouth Belvedere. Curious how it wound up over there? Definitely not an FOS track racer. :) :) :)
cars come from all over the world to run at goodwood, very much doubt this is a copy!!
This is footage from a few years ago, this car and many others are in the Petty's museum, and is the real deal, as is King Richard ( both are the real deal that is, Mr. Petty isn't just in the museum yet).
Real car John, Richard shipped it over specially for FOS.

Dianna Leigh 😄 The more you hear it, it gets easier. Learning curve!
Or you could just watch the video and you'd realise they said both measurements..
Cars sure were a lot slower back then. 😄
pretty cool to hear the stuffy sounding brits talk NASCAR.
Are the actually going to drive it then? Might as well just push it up the hill. Yawn
Do you mind? Richard was more than 70 at this point and this car is a museum piece, just like it left the racetrack in 1967. He and his family didn't want to see him get hurt or the car get crashed
Hemi over England
He's not pushing it because we all know old American boats can't go round corners.
Europeans steer with the front tires.
Us knuckle dragging Americans use massive engines and steer with the rear! It's much more fun, scary, and dramatic all at the same time. ;-)
@@wydopnthrtl Massive engines, no HP. Also, plenty of European cars are RWD, BMW/Merc the list goes on. I am a RWD lover, it's the only way!
You do realize they race mostly on ovals don't you?
@@Sirdiggar A small displacement engine needs a turbo to make any respectable horsepower.
This is truly sad, if you cant keep pace with pre-ww1 cars up the hill in a top-level post ww2 race car you shouldn't be allowed to drive at Goodwood.
