    I'm finding ultra processed foods don't even taste good anymore. They aren't worth the money, they aren't worth the fact that they don't fill me up. They don't even hit the pleasure centers after I've lost 40 lbs. They just make me feel greasy, hungry, and ill.

      I'm not quite there yet, although I've noticed (for example) Hershey's chocolate is trash now and most flavored chips are pretty bad if you think about it while you're eating them.

      This is so true! I traveled recently, thus making some poor food choices, and yesterday I found myself craving fish and chips. That was the first time I've had a craving in a while, first of all (...interesting, after eating fast food...), but I figured why not, and we got some. I felt so unsatisfied after, and my belly felt full of grease 😖 so I ordered a salad to feel better 😩 I'm glad I'm starting to detox.

      Last year I still had a really strong urge to pick up a McChicken every time I dropped my partner off for work, it was right on the way home. Every day it made me feel ill until one day I just stopped. It’s been almost a year now and I still get the crave on long drives but I try to remember that it will just make me feel bad and not even taste that good anyways.

      So relatable. I had an offer for a free Sheetz Glob. It's a about the size of a wide mouth jar and it's double layer chocolate cake with cream filling and 470 calories of ultra processed ass. A few bites later it was in the trash.

      Not only that, but more recently they've decreased the volume, added more ingredients as well as increased the calories and price.
      For example a Snickers bar now (not the big one) went from 220 to 250 calories except it's smaller than it was before.
      I'd rather have a cheat day and make homemade brownies because at least I know a piece of brownie will literally be less calories than a Snickers bar and after losing so much (little over 92 lbs lost with 18-25 more to go) one brownie is all I need.
      I much prefer to get my sugar from fruits now because not only is it delicious, but you can have a ton of volume for less calories and it's filled with vitamins and fiber I need. You can't beat it. I'll never go back.

    I stopped into a Burger King the other day with my daughter for the first time in years. Ordered two normal "combo" meals, not large or anything, and it cost just as much as if I'd have gone to the nice Thai place I love. Huge surprise to me.

    • @XxLadyxGaladrielxX
      @XxLadyxGaladrielxX 7 місяців тому +84

      Right? For the same amount you could even go to a Chipotle, which isn't as nice as a goof Thai place, but more widely found, and get a big burrito bowl which is really two meals! Fast food buns have such a weird taste to them as well.
      Or some of the grocery stores have a discount sushi day! Cheaper than fast food! And sushi is v good for you.
      Me and my dad used to stop and get a thing of fries from Wendy's and me a Jr. Frosty(free if you buy a 2$ tag) after work some days (Assembling grills and such outdoors at HomeDepot) and then Wendy's changed their fry recipe and it's like, uhhhhh no it's not worth it.

      The taco bell app has a deal where for 7 dollars you get a burrito, taco, drink, and side. I'm usually full after the burrito and side and have something to eat for dinner/lunch. Compared to 10-11 dollars for a sandwich and fries...

    • @tymondabrowski12
      @tymondabrowski12 7 місяців тому +18

      The price for a pretty bad (although tasty) meal at McDonald's - chicken nuggets and fries - was way higher than a sandwich from a supermarket sandwich bar 40m away. The sandwich was huge, there were healthy bread options, lots of veggies, ham that looked like actual ham (with meat fibers, not the canned stuff), normal Gouda-like cheese. Butter that might have some margarine (knowing big corporations) but still mostly butter. Basically very decent option for lunch. Way more filling too, and I never manage to eat it whole at once. Costs maybe $2.50 (using exchange rates), while the McDonald's meal was over $10.
      Btw in between there is also a salad fast food, I've heard very good opinions of it, it's of course as expensive but it's salads with grilled chicken and stuff (in bowls or some pita or tortilla). I've heard that that particular point is badly manage though so I won't visit, but maybe in some other place.

It was just long enough for the mothers to stop producing breast milk so they had to keep buying formula. I'm gonna say it. I buy Semaglutide as a peptide (which is super cheap, search about it), I reconstitute it myself, and both me and my husband couldn't be happier. I now take 0.6mg and he takes 0.7mg, we're both good at that dosage (you have to build up to it). In total it costs us about 15 euros every month. We both lost weight (went from obese to normal weight), but the biggest positive of this drug is it helped us fix our relationship with food after decades of junk food addiction. We almost never crave processed or sugary foods anymore. Our food related stress has reduced A LOT. And the amount of money we save is ASTRONOMICAL. So now, we buy healthier whole foods AND we save money. It's a win-win! And let's not forget it's those huge companies who created the obesity epidemic in the first place, since high palatable foods are shown to have the same effect on brain as addictive drugs. So they can suck it and cry all they want. I hope they go bankrupt and people finally have more access to healthy local foods than junk foods made by greedy corps. And I'm not even gonna start talking about the health problems & risks that come with being chronically obese.

      The problem is that they have to produce financial results for their investors and stakeholders. Big investment funds invest for long term results in these big companies and the succes of the company rests on the believe of the investors. Once the investors stop seeing financial results and lose their trust and back out, the company loses value very fast and crashes. If enough people sell their shares, they can even burst like a bubble. To stay safe and to keep on producing results, the consumer and even other business clients are cut short. Less product (more cheaper filler materials and substitutions), higher prices, more shortcuts, less quality control, less service, more subscription-based services, more 'climate neutral', more 'woke', anything to keep the current investors happy enough and possibly attract new investors to raise the company value even more. It is a matter of capitalism sadly. While they generate money, the world is getting filthier and filthier...

      There are so many great fruits and vegetables that are grown by genuine people. You can ask them everything they put in producing it to ensure it meets your standards.
      Additionally, you can likely buy your meats directly from them. Just ask! If you can get to the point where the majority of your food comes from farmers, I guarantee you’ll feel better.

Because here (in Central Europe) too, more and more people are changing their eating habits, away from fast food and convenience food, to natural, local, seasonal WHOLE foods. Whole foods are now cheaper than any frozen-, fast- or convenience food! Saying goodbye to ultra processed foods is the VERY BEST you can do for your health, no matter how much you weigh!! Idk how much more expensive food is in Canada than the US, but my grocery bill has doubled. The closest market is 15 miles away, and there is no public transportation here (well there is a bus stop about 15 miles away as well). Heh, cabs charge $100 USD each way and Uber/Lyfts will drop you off here but I've *never* been able to get one to pick me up. Ever. I lost my license for a few months due to tax issues and wow was that awful. I still managed to get to the market though and have since paid off the $3500 or wtv surprise bill from 2011. Thank god Biden hired the extra 10K IRS agents to go after the ultra wealthy...oh wait. I didn't even live in the darn state I was being taxed from, but not paying would have cost thousands for a lawyer and taken at least a year for a court date over which period of time I would not have been able to drive, so I just saved and paid it as soon as I could.
      Regardless, at least the food is at the market. I assume your grocery stores physically don't have the food as there is no way eating out can be less expensive than eating at home. I gave up a couple of monthly subs and stopped going out to eat altogether unless I'm with my son and that's pretty much made up the difference in the price gouging at the market, though I do find myself eating variants of ground beef and rice, chicken frozen green beans/broccoli and rice along with tossing in an extra protein shake every day. Lots of Chili and a ton of omelettes as well. I literally buy 7 pieces of fruit every week, usually 5 oranges and two pears along with a container of diced peaches in water because oranges are now $1.75 a piece and berries...wow, like $8/half pint. It is absurd.
      I hope you can make it work. Eating a tiny bit is great when you can still get enough protein, have multivitamins and your goal is to lose weight. When it is a compulsion or you legitimately cannot afford to eat, well that is a fricken nightmare. A nightmare which has toppled hundreds of governments, including world leading ones, throughout the course of history. Get better...and ditch Trudeau. The guy is nuts.

    honestly, processed food doesn't even sounds appealing like it used to back in the day. now, some healthier snacks give so much more satisfaction and the next day you don't wake up feeling like crap physically or mentally. if i want to indulge in some sweet treat or smth that resembles chain fast food, it's not just healthier but also much cheaper to just go to local places and family owned businesses.
    truly hope that there will be one day in the future where people will go back to eating a lot more naturally and the processed food industry will be either done for good or have little impact on most people.

I lost 40 pounds with not too many side effects but the worst thing was that because my appetite was gone it weirdly made it harder to eat healthy because all I could stand was ultra palatable foods like fast food and pizza that I just ate less of. I admitted that I struggled with diet on the drug but the automatic hostility people who take the drug are met with seems kind of unnecessary to me. for anyone curious who happens upon this: wrote that a week ago and since then I've teamed up with a nutritionist and am tracking macros and calories and in that time I've lost 2-4 pounds. although it's too soon to tell if these are normal fluctuations, it does seem to be breaking the plateau I was in for the last two months on ozempic. I can already tell that the big difference is the intentionality with the eating and the quality of food. I do think I could have been more intentional while using the drug but I don't know, like I said I struggled to eat healthy when I had no appetite.

    I've kicked my fast food habits down from daily, to maybe twice monthly, largely because of the price. What I miss most is the time I used to save. Preparing your own food takes so much more time, it's almost depressing. With shopping, cooking, eating, and cleaning up afterwards, preparing a meal takes an average of 45 active minutes. Compare that to pre-ordering a McMeal on the app, picking it up, eating, and throwing away the paper bag... 15 - 20 active minutes tops. Even less if you get it delivered.

      @@paulabailey9791 I used to have an ED, so I 100% understand what they are trying to do. However, they throw out the baby with the bathwater and promote that kind of eating for pretty much everyone, implying that “most” people have some kind of “disordered eating” or are victims of “diet culture”. This kind of intuitive eating and no food rules is NOT appropriate for a country with these levels of health complications and obesity rates. I 100% get eliminating that “fear food” mindset; it was very helpful for me in my recovery. But many people that struggle with ED’s go from anorexia to bulimia and binge eating and this kind of eating can trigger it or exacerbate it. Additionally, it’s 100% valid to admit that food is MORALLY neutral but it is NOT nutritionally neutral, and these companies that make ultra processed foods are NOT morally neutral; they want profit regardless of health. And yes, it’s not healthy either to spend hours stressing over eating a cookie, but you should get a point when you don’t WANT to eat crap and you WANT to feel good. I still treat myself and enjoy it without self hate, but I don’t fool myself into thinking it’s a healthy choice. It gets to a point where I don’t view some of that stuff as food and I am NOT distraught or stressed about it. It does not make “me crave it more.” It’s like smoking. I am 100% aware it is JUNK for my body and I have zero interest in putting it in my body. Yes, food is needed to live, but there are parallels. To pretend that some foods are just “soul nourishing” and that the concept of “healthy food” doesn’t exist is naive at best, insane at worst.
