I can't believe this man isn't in the college football hall of fame.

I can proudly say that, along with many others from Statesboro, Ga., I knew Coach Russell personally. We would see him in the stores and restaurants around town, and yes, every morning in Snooky's. He would always stop and take the time to talk to anyone, no matter what he was doing. He was every bit the man that these videos tell you he was, and then some. The College Football Hall of Fame isnt big enough to hold the memory of Big Erk, but I agree 1000% that it is a travesty this man has not been inducted.
As a side note, I have an Erk story I can share with y'all. I was behind him in line one day in the Dollar General while he was buying a couple of bottles of shampoo (obviously not for himself, lol). We were sharing small talk when we noticed the cashier had a bad case of hiccups, and was having a rough go of things. Coach turned to me with that little grin and said, "You know the best way to get rid of the hiccups?" I said, "No, sir, coach...how?" He turned to the cashier, laid a $100 bill on the counter, and said, "If you hiccup again you can have this" She tried for everything it was worth to force another hiccup out, and couldn't. We all laughed about that, and I still laugh every time I think about that. RIP Coach...
