Thailand will re-list cannabis as a narcotic by the end of 2024, the nation’s prime minister said on May 7, 2024. The stunning U-turn was made two years after the country became one of the first in Asia to decriminalise the drug for recreational use and despite the rapid growth of the marijuana retail sector. Tens of thousands of shops and businesses have sprung up in Thailand and the industry had been on track to be worth US$1.2 billion by 2025.

if it's about keeping it away from children why not ban alcohol, that is readily available all over thailand.
Worldwide, 3 million deaths every year result from harmful use of alcohol. Worldwide Cannabis deaths 0. MOTHERS ARE PROGRAMMED TO BE OVER PROTECTIVE OVER THEIR KIDS. BUT AS A WORKING CONSENTING ADULT. WHY SHOULD I BE IGNORED MY FREEDOM OF CHOICE BECAUSE OF PARANOID MOTHERS AND THEIR BABIES 🙄 here what can be done. make the law more tougher on adults selling it to minors. Ok Mothers !
Because alcohol can't be inhaled passiv unlike the smoke from marihuana that makes everyone high who stays long enough close to the consumer
Banning it just makes it even more attractive to children. Kids always want what they cannot have.

My guess is this is somewhat connected to big pharmaceutical companies want no competition to marijuana.
Exactly
No. You simply can't legalize cannabis in a country where people only go to, to get a cheap s*xholiday or to make an even cheaper tour through the rural side. Everyone will start to grow cannabis. Even the bakeries in Thailand sell pure cannabis buds, cause you simply make more money with it.

@@lenny_1369no, the legalisation of a substance is in no correlation to the amount if people consuming it. If even it’s consumed more when it’s illegal because it’s tempting for the youth then and nobody is informed about it because it’s illegal. Look up prohibition in the states. Drugs are consumed everywhere in every culture, especially cannabis. It’s literally the oldest drug. People will consume drugs, no matter what. Making it illegal is straight up discrimination

Re-list cannabis as a narcotic? Lets just ignore medical definitions and re-list cannabis as a hamburger 🍔

were simply suffering from old people in charge. The most evil thing is that old people on purpose do things to hurt society because they're on the way out.
That's right. Old people won't change their opinions they've had for over 40 years, regardless of what science and statistics show. Here in Australia they're SLOWLY moving to legalise it in certain states, I think 2 it's already legal for a certain amount and my state of Victoria is slowly opening up talking a lot about decriminalisation and WAY more about medical use with a few trial underway, particularly the potent oil for use in people with disabilities which has been fantastic according to other states amongst people with disabled children.
Theyre losing their grip on power and want to burn it all down with them.
Yeah,....but they have their young recruits too.
Alcohol is more dangerous and fully legal. Makes no sense to criminalize cannabis.
US tried banning alcohol, it was a bad idea.. Too many people drink alcohol, banning it will cause riotts..
So why is alcohol still legal then?

Cannabis creates a slower and lazier population. They did this so they can try to compete on the global stage.
But alcohol being sold literally everywhere is fine? What a joke.
BIG mistake
I think the the largest possibility will look like this.... People will Obey. People will shut up. People will go to their jobs and be productive slaves. Life will go on. We will work and pay taxes until we DIE. End of story.

When I was in Bangkok in January 2023, the number of marijuana shops in the Sukhumvit area was overwhelming! No way was everyone making money. Instead, the authorities should have limited the number of licenses handed out to open shops up everywhere.

make it illegal for children, simple as that. sounds like theres more to this story that the government wants to say. to have this reversal so fast makes you wonder what the true reason is
it's not really a "reversal" the original situation came about due to lack of political unity shortly after the coup government gave up power. The old laws were removed, but no new laws replaced them, due to the lack of political cohesion. Everyone knew that eventually that would change and now it is. Basically there was just a 2 year gap in drafting the new laws due to the delicate political situation. Legalization was never the intended goal. After all, Thailand is still transitioning from a period of a long coup (2014).
But its legitimately not a narcotic... that's a ridiculous classification

Cannabis should be absolutely just as legal and easy to obtain anywhere as alcohol currently is. In every single state. No exceptions. It's so easy: As legal and easy to obtain/use as alcohol currently is. Why hold relatively benign, often healing cannabis to any sort of irrational, stricter double standard than perfectly legal alcohol?
Why not impose heavy taxes on it to make it unaffordable for locals?
