This camera body style is pretty much the only one left that doesn't have a zoom lens that extends. The GoPro and other compact point and shoots are either too small, or have a retracting zoom lens.
Also none of them work with a off camera flash.
I think I'm going to grab the older model, the TG-6 since I'm not going to use it for underwater. I want something smaller for my car. Something that has a flush design that won't get hooked on my bag when I try pulling it out. I tried other compacts but that retracting zoom lens is just slow to extend when taking it out and retracting.
I want it also as a back up to my main camera for real estate. They made decent adapter for it. If need be, I can take detailed shots with the light ring. Ofcourse just being a backup camera I might not use it for years on a job, but it's better than my smartphone 😅

All the tough cameras have had the very popular red option because when losing it while swimming, by a waterfall etc, it is easy to find. Apart from the name on the front, it is difficult to see any big differences from my TG6. They are excellent cameras with fabulous macro capabilities, and really useful accessories such as the macro flash device. Divers love this little camera. With its underwater housing it goes down to 45 meters, which is plenty deep enough for most scuba diving.
Have had a good look at specs etc. Here is the total "upgrades" vs TG6
    1/ Name on front
2/ minor body styling (very minor)
    3/ 1 mm wider
    4/ 1 mm thicker
    5/ 4 grams heavier
6/ USB Mini C port vs USB Mini B port
    Everything else is identical.

Thanks for summarizing the differences between the TG6 and TG7... I would have expected more enhancements, alas... Still, great little cameras!!

This is just a company unwilling to invest in developement...it is a good camera though...but please call it TG6 mark 1

I own a tg6 and i use it for underwater macro video and its awesome. one thing i was expecting to see on the tg7, was an increase of fps from 30 to 60 for 4k video, but that didn't happen. i don't see the need for me to upgrade.

Look, I don't just read the specs. I am a heavy Gopro user 4 & 7. I Own and use TG6 in red. As far as I see TG7 has a different USB port and The 90° Tilt. It does not replage the Gopro that I carry on my motorcycle crash helmet or wave on a stick above me cabriolet or canoe. Firstly, it slips into my pocket and is ready for action FAST. Yes I have dropped it scuffed it IT IS tougher than anything I have previously encountered. I'm a camera collector and have a 100 or so cameras dating back to 1897. But why did I buy it? I Scuba dive and I saw the results. I was diving in the red sea using my gopro on steroids. My friends TG6 blew my mind away. In close up, macro or microscope this thing will autofocus down to zero and get the shot. If you want a full frame image of the eye of a two inch fish in movement. It doe's it. 90% of the time it is in pocket on land./ Does that st-uff. The rest of the time Underwater, it has a case that goes down to -60 metres, underwater strobe that costs more than the fcamera, Big LED Lights and I clip on a gopro. The Gopro will run to give wide angle video. That is what it does well. All the normal and detail footage video or still is TG.

Every new video, you look younger. I think that all these new cameras coming out have gotten you out of hibernating and back in the Christmas Room. My god will I have to put diapers on you if this trend continues?????? 😂😂😂

I have the tg2 the only reason I'm getting a tg7 over the action cams is because i do not believe they can take the same level of abuse over 11 years. Took the tg2 out again last weekend, caked in mud, the buttons still work. Low video quality is why im upgrading

It doesn’t stand a chance next to the GoPro 11 or the Osmo 4. It’s a bigger form factor but more importantly, it doesn’t have a front facing screen. Great info though.

And it has Contrast detect AF! Yikes! Well I want to put up a video a day this week and this was something interesting. Let's see what out there for tomorrow :)

The tough series are way better than GoPro. Has brilliant macro, zoom lens, and flash. It is not intended to be an action camera. GoPro is perfect for what it is designed for. Snowboarding, hang gliding, racing, white water rafting etc etc. The tough series is more for snorkeling, hiking, yachting, etc. Not so much strenuous action, but where you are likely to get wet, but also need macro shots out in nature, or telephoto. It is not as ruggesd as GoPro, but does a lot more than the GoPro can do.

Well said, @@artistjoh . I have owned both the Tough TG5 and Tough TG6 and I have yet to explore all their various features in depth. Besides being a wonderful underwater and macro camera, these little beasts can do a lot more than you can imagine, and they withstand tough conditions (perfect for hiking, etc.). And having Live Composite is a wonderful feature that only OM System (formerly Olympus) cameras offer. There are many Tough TG related reviews and tutorials on UA-cam that people should check out if considering to purchase this camera. 👍👍

i'm on the fence here. for anything else than POV the gopro wide lens gets old fast. and now that I use a 360 camera for POV i am looking for something else to take on ski trips but this camera does not have 4k 60p grrrr. i will keep using my iphone to film my buddies wipeouts :P. But i think there is a void here POV wide angle vs a tighter view 35, , 50mm?

Not as rugged as go pro, ive thrown mine in mud multiple times because I need my hands for something so had to ditch the camera quick. I've dropped mine in the ocean where a driver managed to retrieve it. The camera has taken this abuse for 11 years and is still working. I imagine a touch screen won't work well when covered in mud

After repeatedly stating it is waterproof to 15 feet, you inadvertently skipped over the spec stating 15 meters!!! That difference is important to me.

I was disappointed when they discontinued the TG6 so hearing that the TG7 is a good thing. There are very few rugged cameras like this left so it’s a good thing gets here… I would not trust a waterproof phone in the water because there’s too much tied up in it. A correction though, this is not a micro 4/3 sensor. It has a 5.6x crop factor.
Ha ha “take 2 microSD cards and call me in the morning” I actually lol’d at that. Take no care Peter, live for God.

I am sure it will be a good little camrea for some but for me is still the gopro 12 all the way for a water proof and Action camrea and thr r 6 as a video. Pro good presentation peter.

Hi Jeff - the GoPro really is one of the hottest thing going:) But I still have to make videos, i don't like the contrast detection though, but i haven't seen how well (or poor) it works. Time will tell. Thanks for watching me :)

@@PeterGreggThe AF is okay on the TG6. The comparison with GoPro is a bit silly. The TG series are not action cameras, and action cameras don't do the things the Tough series does, like zoom lens, faster aperture, macro, flash, etc. It is a ruggedized point and shoot with great features for being out in nature such as ability to photograph flowers and bugs, but can also go down to 45meters for scuba diving with its underwater housing.
