The Audiobook is the best one I have ever listened to. I have around 800 in my library. The narrator brings the story to life. Like you, I fear reading the next trilogy because the ending was so perfect.
man I just finished morning star, and I am terrified to read the second trilogy lol, the ending was so great and I just know everything is gonna be ruined and although the series will be great I will be in pain
you probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Marley Colin Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
The scene in golden son when Darrow and Sevro capture the Vanguard, that to me was when you really meet the reaper and the goblin. Frickin' incredible!
I was loving the trilogy regardless; but brown hooked me hard in each and every book, including iron gold and dark age. One of my favorites was when Darrow had pax whip him. That was written and played out flawlessly. That moment endeared the rising to me on a deeper level. Also, in iron gold and dark age we branch out and get to dive into other perspectives. Lysander giving us a first person perspective on the ferocity and terror of facing Darrow and his legions; added a beautiful layer to the vision I have of Darrow. Awesome vid though. Hail Reaper
Just finished my second readthrough, and I’m having existencial issues carrying onward. As easily observed, you seem to have some knowledge of similarily engaging books. Can I ask your suggestion?
P S believe me I understand that feeling lol. You invest in a story and get lost in the world. Then it’s over and that world slowly dies away inside your mind. Rising was definitely one of the worst comedowns I’ve had, stories just felt a little stale afterwards. Red rising is just a genre bender that is hard to find elsewhere. It has its own flavor for sure. But, if you’re wanting that addiction type story similar to the feeling you got from rising, I can name 2 that for sure will give you that. First is Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. Second is unsouled by Will Wight. Guaranteed you won’t be disappointed
Just finished the mistborn trilogy. I’m quite awestruck by the mixed emotions and intrigue it left me. Now I’ll ponder wheter to continue the series or go to warbreaker
I have just finished this series epic series, and really agree with all your points. Man that ending was great and the journey was even better. Definitely among my top 3 series of all time.
I am reading Red Rising, about at 30%. One problem that is bugging me that since its written from Darrow POV, the Author tells things about world that there is no way Darrow would have known from his early life in mines. It's not there is CNN or Fox down in Reds that tell you whats going on above/ But when Darrow was preparing for the test, he tells how many levels the Golds are divided into and some other details about Golds and the rest of the world that unless you are watching MarsTube on your datapad, you would not have known. Anyways, I'll keep pushing.
Totally know what you mean about liking people dying in books lol totally not morbid - I get it. I really enjoyed another series recently but wasn't happy that there were a couple characters that didn't make it and then were miraculously ok. Where are the stakes? Idk - I like my heart to be broken lol Well sounds like a wonderful series! I've heard such great things about Pierce Brown's books but didn't know a whole lot about it now! Great review! I'll definitely have to pick up Red Rising. Have you done a top fav series video? Would love to see your list!
I'm going to do a top favorites video probably sometime next month! I'm wanting to do one more review first before I make that video though :) And yes! I like to be worried about my characters! That makes me sound mean, but oh well I guess :D
So cool to meet some howlers. I would love unknown actors to grow with the movies. So I have no names but more of a type of who should play every character.
I loved this series, I was actually stunned how much I am enjoying it. I'm on book five (Dark Age) right now, I didn't like book four (Iron Gold) as much as the first three but it ended strong and got me ready for book 5. Dark Age is fantastic. I can't wait for the next one...apparently there is going to be maybe a 7th.
hii! so I realize i'm 2+ years too late, but I wanted to leave a comment regardless because it is sO hard to find a decent book review on this series on youtube. I'd love to get into how I first found the series, it's quite unique, but I don't want to drag on. First off, kudos to you for literally not spoiling anything even while talking about the series as a whole. I had my doubts when you first said that, but you did very well in explaining the books, some themes, and the intricacies of the characters. Also, I 100% feel you on how we like it when characters die. It's morbid, but like you said, it makes it that much more real. I loved how Darrow isn't perfect. He fucks up, and he fucks up majorly with some major consequences. How his fuck ups affect not just some off hand character, but affects his friends directly as well. Even to the point of betrayal. uff, I could go on and on. Regardless, thank you so much for doing this. I appreciate you:))
I agree totally. I read these books when they came out, but this review is the best ive seen. This is my favorite book series, and I love the spoiler free treatment for new readers.
this is one of my favorite series, for me, it's my 2nd favorite saga, and my fav book of the trilogy is Golden son, even when I've loved Morning star, from the middle to the end I couldn't stop reading, ended at 4:30 am, but it was worth it, my fav saga is "The saga of Darren Shan" most known as Cirque du freak, have a movie but its the worst adaptation the possibly could've done, but the books are awesome, I would like to know your opinion about it, I can bet you would like it.
hii! okay so Red Rising has turned into my all time favorite series. I could go on and on about this, but you mentioned the Cirque du Freak books and I haven't thought of those in yearsssss. Oh my goodness I loved them so much at the time. I remember spending an entire school day reading and reading on the bus home and reading once I got home. I finished a book and a half that day. My favorite of the series (or at least the most memorable) was the vampire trials? Something like that. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about!
@@miguelgarcia-eg2jw, yeah I would say "trials of death" is my fav too, but the main plot of that book continues on "the vampire prince" and I cannot decide which I like the most. I read it long ago and I started reading slowly but from trials to the end I read a book a day, I know is not that much but back then I wasn't use to read. ever since I finished the series I wanted to ask somebody about their opinion about 3 plots, shancus (you know what), larten (once again, you know what), and the ending. if u have discord we could continue chatting there, (samurosales #1399)
I'm really into Harrison Gilbertson and Bill Skarsgard right now, but I don't know what characters they would play. I can see Harrison Gilbertson playing the Jackal, maybe. That would be fun. 😁
Elliot Brooks yeah that be fun. I was thinking about it, then I realized I couldn't think of any POC actors/actresses ☹️☹️☹️ Pierce Browns characters are diverse enough cuz they're different races... silly me 😔
Just finished the trilogy yesterday, so held off on watching your vid. A good vid with good observations as we have come to expect from Elliott. (Some SPOILERS so skip if you haven't read the books please!) The first book was good. It fits into what I understand YA to be. (The next two books for me is straight up adult sci-fi/sci-fan) It also pulled from a lot of popular elements like the hunger games, this is book 1 with the institute. So, the first book was good, but looking back I can really see the author improving his craft with the next two books. I enjoyed Golden son a great deal. The Iron Rain was wow... The twists were good. It was really well put together, but it sort of ended on a cliffhanger, and I don't always like that when authors subject their readers to it, as it would have frustrated me immensely to wait a year or more for the next book to come out. Fortunately, Morning Star was at hand and i started it 10 minutes after finishing book 2. The third book really stands out to me. The author upped his game, there were more attention to detail with regards to military tactics and actual hand to hand combat. If people are familiar with MMA they would recognise certain moves, it was done magnificently. I've read a complaint that the third book was just war and the reader got bored with it... I can understand that the amount of action may be jarring at points, but it felt organic to me, this was the endgame, all the pieces were in place, a lot of action are to be expected then. If i have some criticism, it would be that I would have liked to see the surviving friends meet up, see how they were doing how they were coping. But the series overall, great. (Final spoiler: I nearly broke my e-reader when a certain smaller character died. I wanted to howl and punch something, the betrayal was a donkey kick in the gut...)
