He was such a wonderful dad, but he thought not giving his son any discipline was showing his son love! However, discipline the right way is done because of love, not in spite of it!❤

I had a father of grown boys tell me sadly he wished he'd read the book of Proverbs when his children were young. Now, it was too late.

"Train up a child in the way he should grow and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6. Proverbs 13:24 speaks of not sparing the rod. I know a family that trains Dogs to do all kinds of tricks, but their own children were never "trained" (disciplined) and ran amok in town.

This is my first time seeing this movie, and it’s definitely worth a second watching. I had to repeat some of the scenes, because I wasn’t sure what Oliver did to the young woman to cause her to commit suicide??? The only thing I could think of is, he possibly got her pregnant against her will 😮??

@@eshaibraheem4218 I have a couple biographies on Marlene Dietrich, one written by her only child, Maria Riva.
She documents her Mothers (many) love affairs. Some lasting years with stars like John Gilbert, Douglas Fairbanks jr, Yul Brynner & Brian Ahern.
Marlene managed to stay married to Maria's father for over 50 years, part of their arrangement included the husbands mistress. They all coexisted and Maria wrote openly about all of it.
      Fascinating book.

OLIVER avoided a well deserved thrashing .... consider if his antics would have been ✋ stopped then? ... he might have been a better child and later adult ... 👏 It's about right and wrong... and being a good parent !!! Our nation needs to stand up and reject the vulgarity and political brainwashing of the movie goer's. Movies today have no real story and our great actors and actresses that were so very talented! Hollywood produces trash from the bottom of the Barrell. I haven't gone to the movies in years because I refuse to pay money to sit through a movie and be insulted with Filth language and vulgarity! My dear grandfather and grandmother went through the WWII. Living in Rotterdam, with two toddlers. There have been times where I heard some of their stories through my mother (one of the toddlers then). They lived by the day, "one didn't know if one would still be alive the next day". I was always happy staying over at their place because there was such respect !! They had seen the uglyness of human behaviour in the war especially and they had this attitude too of "chin up, shoulders beneath the load/burden that one in this life had to carry". In a way the equivalent of going upwards, onward - excelsior 🎯💯. Whatever came on their way, incl. the death of their grandson (in the seventies) at the age of twelve, "they kept on" through it. Honour, selfdiscipline, loyalty, courage and picking up life again and again after ordeals. And even at a time of financial difficulty, there was always room for one extra.💞. They had values. This movie reminded me of them. A breath of fresh air - this movie and script. Thank you 🎀. Especially since the world is "slip-sliding away" concerning all the mentioned above. I'm sorry to say that in these days a remake of this movie, made within it's time-line..., would be an impossibility beyond measure.

Yes very rare that we see story’s of Father and son/child, even the beginning when the midwife dismisses the father as if he’s nothing. How men are misunderstood and women can takeover their role. Really good movie

Here in 2022 looking at the movies today, and in our betrayal of modern life one has to think with all our gadgets and sophiticated ways we have left a part of ourelves behind, the part that made us human! Now the world celebrates those who are like Oliver, the truly honest people get shoved aside and the calouse and ruthless people lead our world to a place where most of us will find no lasting happiness. Let us hope we can find it in our hearts to change this for all our sakes!

This film was great in demonstrating just what happens when you spare the rod and spoil the child. Could of written a better outcome to Maeve's situation though. Louis Hayward was a favorite of mine among British actors. He like many other soldiers came back from WW2 with PTSD that was known as "Shell Shock' or "Psychiatric collapse" back then. There was no rehab or resources to help these vets deal with the scars of war. His wife n' actress Ida Lupino couldn't keep their marriage together and he told her to divorce him.

Although Madeleine Carroll was top billed this was very much a supporting role for her along with third billed Louis Hayward at his unctuous best. Madeleine and Brian Aherne, two fellow Brummies
