There was something AvP did here as the Marine that even AvP 2 and AvP 2010 didn’t do as well at: The sheer *_DREAD_* of that eerily empty ambience, punctuated randomly by beeps of movement off in some dark corner, only for it to vanish, as if there was rarely a moment where you felt truly alone.
The fact that AvP 1999 had randomly spawning enemies while the other AvP FPS games had disproportionately scripted encounters is worth noting. Adds to the sense of dread.
@@CaliforniaTD Also the brutality of enemy encounters. Aliens in AVP2 and 2010 you could easily aim at them, as they mostly walked and had slower movements, while in the original they jumped superfast, almost teleported to you and were very silent and sneaky. Each corner could mean a very quick death even with full health and top weapons. However the greatest terror in AVP 99 were facehuggers, insanely fast and instadeath. No second chances with health, no slow animations of the bug crawling slowly or getting out of the egg like other games. A typical encounter with a facehugger had the motion tracker beeping like crazy, a very ennerving sound of 'cri cri' crawling, a frantic shootout against a very fast very small very dangerous target, panic and death, sometimes without even seeing it.
I never played this game. I used to play AvP2 (2001) a lot. And I must say: body physics here are much better than in second game. In AvP2 when a torso is destroyed, the body just dissapears. It's so non-immersive. But here in AvP you can literally segment the body however you want to. You use the speargun on Alien's torso, the body gets split in half. As an Alien you can either bite the head off with its inner jaw or you can just disassemble the body. How cool is that?! I love that feature so much. And this game is older than me. They don't do them like they used to.
The only thing that gets me about this one is how... bulky the aliens look. I'm not far into the video so I haven't seen the Pred's yet but they definitely look a bit goofy, but you are right in how the body physics are a bit better in the way you described.
Also just got to the Pred seconds after that and realized that I think what you mean is something along the lines of Object Persistence. Their bodies remain in place, i'm guessing possibly because the maps weren't as big as the second game? So having a few extra bodies in place wouldn't take as much memory from your system. I'm guessing after a while they probably did despawn or were set to despawn the oldest "killed" enemy after a certain point that we would be to far along to notice.
Your video about Alien vs Predator 2010 was something truly amazing, I was happy to see each time that it lasted 2h30 instead of 1h30. I hope you will do one day a game movie about Alien vs Predator 2 of 2001 (including Primal Hunt maybe), because there is definitely something else to make from. I bet you already know about it. I've never saw this game and discovering it that way is still interesting as I discovered first it's little brother. I love how every sounds of that game looks to be directly recorded from the alien movies, exactly the same as the first two movies for most of it, incredible ! I love those things, just like Alien Isolation.
Man i cant remember the last time i played this game, and i love how there are skins from AvP2010 here, hella nice work dude! All that's left is AvP2, my personal favorite
I will say that you are very smooth and fluid with your alien gameplay, I'm guessing because you've played the AVP games countless times and know the routes but your wall transitions and movements are just so well practiced it looks like you are the Xenomorph. Very impressive as well as just generally enjoying the videos themselves.
It's amazing how much of a difference two years made in video games back then. AvP 2 was a massive improvement, whereas AvP 2010 still looks fine today, 14 years later.
AVP1 really set the tone of what AVP is, they pushed graphics and FPS gameplay in their own way. AVP2 perfected that as it is one of the best AVP games to exist. Predator Concrete Jungle is a brilliant little game but the story is very different than what happens in the agreed upon canon. AVP Extinction set itsself up as one of the best and most unique RTS games to exist and is one of the greatest AVP installments. It is true to the core AVP. AVP 2010 is glorious for many reasons and is truly fun to play but it has so many downers that aren't existing in AVP2. - Missions for all three share the same maps, so there is little to explore. - Melee combat though good is redundant and simple. - PVP was great. Aliens Colonial Marines was merely a decent shooter game with fun story elements, I like that game. Alien Isolation is single handidly the best Alien game to exist. groundbreaking stuff. Predator hunting grounds sounds like a terrific idea for a game but I heard the game suffers from some exploitable features. Aliens Fireteam Elite is a terrific game with great stories, maps, gameplay mechanics, graphics but it lacks continuity imo and thats where the game dies. Aliens Dark Descent so far has proven to be the next best game besides Alien Isolation...Truly brilliant, flawless game design. especially gameplay. I'm hoping to see AVP4 game really soon because its been 13 years.
I would really like to see another AVP game pick up where the 2010 game left off but improve it to have better melee combat, better maps and graphically gorgeous. The one thing it seems like The recent Alien games, that is Colonial Marines for the most part and even AVP 2010, failed to do was allow us to use things the like the Smartgun more often. I love that damned thing and it isn't used often enough. That aside I want to see an AVP4 as well.
@@snyperwulffgaming9575 Yep, AVP 2010 had greatness, but the maps were bad, considering AVP2 had such a great design behind it. Alien plants, sounds, animals, AND, each species campaign had their own unique maps to travel through, in 2010, all species campaigns use the exact same maps, just in a different order and at a different time. But thats really bad design imo. The AI was also fucking retarted as shit... Playing as alien and finding a squad of marines to play with got pretty boring when you realize that after you kill one of them, all the others revert back to their basic behaviour and act like you aren't even there or that their companion just hasn't been murdered by the thing everyone fears. I would have expexted a lot better AI in games by those times and even today. But yeah, can't believe its been 13 years since AVP 2010... And thats 13 years without any mention of AVP stuff.
Did the Redux mod add allies to the Marine campaign? Nice, considering that you rode in an APC and fled the colony on a dropship which obviously would've had other Marines on board.
I always wanted to know the story of this game more, but wiki is quite dry, and lets plays is... let's say, confusing. Thank you co much for your hard work! It turned out awesome x)
Why would Private Anderson have a photo of Vasquez on his wall? She had something going with Frost, and would have been part of another unit entirely, right? I remember I was too afraid to play through this game by myself, way back when. My sister sat with me and read the guide to me so I would know where to go, and keep me company so I wouldn't get too scared.
I plan to make Dead Space video after the remaster is released. And also I plan to make AvP2, Alien Isolation DLC, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and some more, but I do not know how long it will take...
Is this how the Marines were supposed to move? Back when I played it, the marine was moving like 10x faster. I ended up quitting the game. Thought it was a glitch due to an old game running on a new pc.
I would settle having ALIEN TRILOGY remade with this game engine and graphics but with everything else the same like the atmosphere, music and sounds. I also like the Derelicts biomechanics in that game more, but mix in with this, it would still be a good way to remake for that game.
Really great video. (Watched all your films in a row). But I have a question, what mod did you use to enhance the game ??? I ask you that because the only enhance mod I know (AvPRedux) also replace Xenoborgs with another kind of borg and in you gameplay/movie the Xenoborg is still here. Anyway keep going, eager to see AvP2.

Even as a man, I could barely complete the first mission.

Same thing with me too! And then when AVP2 came that I managed to get done with marine's mission. But this no-no!
