How to Make a Hair Bun Maker and Holder - Quick and Easy DIY Gift

- How to Make DIY Fabric Hair Bun Maker and Holder with Centre Buttonhole.
You can make this in a few minutes with just some scrap fabric, craft wire and a few simple tools.
This is a great alternative to wearing your hair up in a ponytail or with a large clip.
Along with hair scrunchies, this would be a great addition to your hair accessories business.
In this video, I show you how to sew two different styles using the same steps.
I used 100% Quilting Cotton and 19 gauge craft wire in this video
You can easily modify the size of this Hair Bun Maker to suit your style.
To create a Hair Bun, simply slip your hair through the centre opening, turn the fabric once, slide it about halfway down your hair, turn under several times until you feel it's tight under your neck and bring the fabric ends together to twist into a bow.
It's that easy!!

Thanks for this video because I wear my hair up this will help.
You’re welcome 😊
These are very beautiful and easier to do than some of the others.
Thank you. I have two other methods on my channel to make these. Please have a look. Cheers!
@@NotchesSewing One easier method is to :-1. sew around the rectangle and leave a width side open. Turn over .2) Shape the wire into the rectangle, place it inside and then sew the open end. 3) Make buttonhole last . Start cut inside buttonhole with a rotary cutter and finish cutting with a scissors. Done
I have 3 different methods for a hair bun maker. My original method I developed to have clean closed seams on outside and inside. There have been very many copycat videos on it already
@@atelierangela3556 I am eager to see them. Thanks a lot. Waiting to stitch.

Omg I've never seen that method on the corners.
Game changer! 🤗 Thank You!
Thanks for watching. Please have a look on my channel for other method to make these etc..
I really like this method, I trained with my sewing machine, but for some reason I can figure it out. I never made a button holder with my sewing machine, I'll keep practicing until I get it. Thank you for your time and great ideas.
You need to make sure you have a 4-step buttonhole function on your machine to do this long buttonhole. Not sure if you can adjust 1-Step buttonhole machines to do this. Have fun!
thank you that was very interesting I've never seen these hair thing before
You are so welcome
Will have to give this one a go !!
Great! Have fun😀
I really like this method more than your other for ease and aesthetic reasons.
Thanks Doreen. The question was asked how to make these without a buttonhole in the centre when I came up with the first method. It is good for anyone that does not want a buttonhole or has an old basic machine without a buttonhole function. Have you watched my latest video with another method to make with a contrast trim? ua-cam.com/video/qZuhfJLnzR8/v-deo.html

@@NotchesSewing your welcome, I did start to watch the 3rd video but I am useless at that. I will watch it though. I'm a new subscriber too, thanks for what you do, it must take a lot of effort.

I loved your trick on making crisp corners. I have always used the method where you pick the corner out using the sharp end of a seam ripper. I like your way better.
Your other tips were excellent! Thank you
Thanks Laura. You must be a bit careful when “picking” fabric as you can easily rip the threads of fabric out. Please share and have a look at some of my other videos for more tips and tutorials. Cheers🙏

This looks so much easier then the other one you did. What would you change or adjust to make this for a little girl?
HI Beverly, this one is a bit easier if you have trouble with the Burrito method turning the other one. You can shorten the ends ½” each side and also make the centre hole about an 1” smaller as well. Cheers

I love it! Thanks for sharing! Question, can it be washed?

Very neat and tidy and beautiful...do you have any idea how long these will continue to work? how long until the wire becomes too twisted and doesn't hold or breaks? Such as how many times you can use it? I'm a volunteer baker/cook at a local summer and retreat camp. I'm wondering how many of these I would need to get me through the season (May through October) because there is no way to make them while 'working', and I would want enough to get my more than mid-back length hair up and out of the way daily. Thank you!
Hi Christie, I really couldn’t give you a definite answer. It will really depend on fabric, wire, how it’s used etc. I suggest making one up and see how long it will hold your hair up during the day. Maybe use a thicker wire or double up the wire. You can also put your hair in a ponytail first and then roll it up into the holder. I’ll also be uploading a third method soon as well. Cheers

I’m curious about your sewing machine. It glides so easily. What brand is it?
Would you believe it’s just a Singer 4411. I use all industrial machines but just have that to make buttonholes. Please have a look at my video where I compare that machine to my industrials to sew a jean hem. Cheers!
OMG, Thaaaaank you, I seen the other video before this one i was omg that's way too many steps and folds. I admit I was LOST. I see this one and I was in LOVE. Thank you so much easier to follow. Now I have to try for sure. 1 more question. How would you make this for a youth? what would i cut material size down to from this one?
You're very welcome! You can cut length down about ½” at each end and make the opening an inch smaller. I wouldn’t make the width any narrower.
Would you recommend these same dimensions if I was wanting to make some of these for my 9-year-old daughter?
HI Emily, hard for me to say as I don’t know size of her head and everyone is different. You can just make one up and then adjust after seeing it in her hair. You probably just need to take a bit off each end. Thanks for watching.
Can all machines be changed to do the long button hole, or only the 4 step?
I am so sorry. I am not an expert with domestic machines. You will have to research your model and see if the automatic one step function can be turned off? You can always do a continuous tight zig zag or satin stitch.
Wow i love it, very interesting and creative!
Glad you like it! Please share and have a look at some of my other videos.Cheers!

You ever make the headband version to shortern long hair
Not sure what you mean.
Will this wire break after long use?
Hard for me to say. I haven’t worn them long enough to break anything. You can use heavier wire as long as it easily bends. Easy enough to open and replace if it does. Thanks for watching.
💚💙💚
Hello! What kind of wire are you using? thank you!
HI Roxana you can find all details in the description or the very beginning of the video. Cheers!

Please use the link in the video’s description. You can buy from there. Cheers!
If making these for girls ages 5 and 8 should these be scaled down (by how much) so the bow is smaller for their smaller heads and the opening shorter for their thinner hair?
HI Jacqueline, it would need too much taken off. Maybe just ½” from each end and from the opening. Cheers!
Merciiiiiiiiii beaucoup
💕👍💕👍💕👍💕👍
how big is the wire you use? mm?
Hi Leanna, it’s 0.9mm. You can also use a slightly thicker wire as long as it is easy to bend. I will have a third method soon to make these. Thanks for watching.
How long can your hair be for this method to still work? My hair’s all the way to my waist, so it might be too heavy…
I did test it on someone with long curly hair to her waist and it held. You’ll just have to try and see. Cheers
@@NotchesSewing thank you!
Hi, please can you tell me what wire is used for these as I bought a soft craft wire that was ideal I thought however I tested it for a week with my granddaughter and it broke in several places within 3 days. Thankyou.
Regards
GLENYS
Hi Glenys, I use 19 gauge wire. What did you use?
Hi, thankyou for getting back to me. I used some wire I already had which was the soft bendy .5 I think it was , which seemed to be great until I got my granddaughter to use for z week and by 4th day had broken into several pieces. I have just ordered 12 gauge aluminium craft wire, will that be ok
I need these but my hair is like my mom's baby hair silky and I'm not teasing it. I got enough puff, it slips out of ponytails but willing to try new things.
My hair is very thin also as you can see in the video. You can put in ponytail first and then use this.
