  • How to Make DIY Fabric Hair Bun Maker and Holder with Centre Buttonhole.
    You can make this in a few minutes with just some scrap fabric, craft wire and a few simple tools.
    This is a great alternative to wearing your hair up in a ponytail or with a large clip.
    Along with hair scrunchies, this would be a great addition to your hair accessories business.
    In this video, I show you how to sew two different styles using the same steps.
    I used 100% Quilting Cotton and 19 gauge craft wire in this video
    You can easily modify the size of this Hair Bun Maker to suit your style.
    To create a Hair Bun, simply slip your hair through the centre opening, turn the fabric once, slide it about halfway down your hair, turn under several times until you feel it's tight under your neck and bring the fabric ends together to twist into a bow.
    It's that easy!!

      @@NotchesSewing One easier method is to :-1. sew around the rectangle and leave a width side open. Turn over .2) Shape the wire into the rectangle, place it inside and then sew the open end. 3) Make buttonhole last . Start cut inside buttonhole with a rotary cutter and finish cutting with a scissors. Done

    I really like this method, I trained with my sewing machine, but for some reason I can figure it out. I never made a button holder with my sewing machine, I'll keep practicing until I get it. Thank you for your time and great ideas.

      You need to make sure you have a 4-step buttonhole function on your machine to do this long buttonhole. Not sure if you can adjust 1-Step buttonhole machines to do this. Have fun!

      Thanks Doreen. The question was asked how to make these without a buttonhole in the centre when I came up with the first method. It is good for anyone that does not want a buttonhole or has an old basic machine without a buttonhole function. Very neat and tidy and beautiful...do you have any idea how long these will continue to work? how long until the wire becomes too twisted and doesn't hold or breaks? Such as how many times you can use it? I'm a volunteer baker/cook at a local summer and retreat camp. I'm wondering how many of these I would need to get me through the season (May through October) because there is no way to make them while 'working', and I would want enough to get my more than mid-back length hair up and out of the way daily. Thank you!

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Christie, I really couldn’t give you a definite answer. It will really depend on fabric, wire, how it’s used etc. I suggest making one up and see how long it will hold your hair up during the day. Maybe use a thicker wire or double up the wire. You can also put your hair in a ponytail first and then roll it up into the holder. I’ll also be uploading a third method soon as well. Cheers

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  3 роки тому

      You're very welcome! You can cut length down about ½” at each end and make the opening an inch smaller. I wouldn’t make the width any narrower.

      @NotchesSewing  3 роки тому

      HI Emily, hard for me to say as I don’t know size of her head and everyone is different. You can just make one up and then adjust after seeing it in her hair. You probably just need to take a bit off each end. Thanks for watching.

    Can all machines be changed to do the long button hole, or only the 4 step?

    • @NotchesSewing
      @NotchesSewing  3 роки тому

      I am so sorry. I am not an expert with domestic machines. You will have to research your model and see if the automatic one step function can be turned off? You can always do a continuous tight zig zag or satin stitch.

      Hard for me to say. I haven’t worn them long enough to break anything. You can use heavier wire as long as it easily bends. Easy enough to open and replace if it does. Thanks for watching.
