great video! I just replaced the broken screen of the Umi Iron successfully. Now I'm going to do it the same with the Zenfone 2. Your video will definitely help!
If you do this, PLEASE remove the antenna connector EXTRA carefully, the solder connections are weak and will break easy, I recommend holding the board down and pulling the connector straight up.
Two questions... 1. What is the "solvent" you prefer. Is 90% alcohol it or do you use something home brewed or otherwise? 2. What size tapes do you recommend as staples for phone repair? More than one single tape size, right? I ask because I work in IT and have been tasked with repairing all the phone (mostly broken glass) for our company. Mostly Galaxy models but a few of these made the roster.
wow.. I will not risk to fix it by myself. I thought its simple to replace the screen by just removing some parts @_@ I have broken spare phone of ze551ml (issue is motherboard) is it also compatible to replace it to the ones with a screen problem unit? Thank you
My mobile is broken but ,lcd is working .i want to change only display glass.Whether any other service centre or showrooms making this process can u help me in this issue
Hi, I would like to know if it's possible to replace a ZE5550ML screen with the ZE551ML one? because I can't find it for my phone! :| by the way amazing video!!
Quick question. My phone never dropped or anything the touchscreen simply stopped working and became unresponsive as well as the 3 soft keys at the bottom of the phone. I was able to factory hard reset the phone and now I'm stuck at the phone initialization screen with still an unresponsive touch screen. Thus I am unable to continue. Considering that everything on the outside appears to be "as new" I'm assuming the issue lies with a possible severed connector within the phone. So my question is what exactly am I looking for? What wire or connection is used to connect touch to the touch screen? Or to send signals from the screen to the phone/motherboard?
Hello ! The video is awesome. I just have a query though. Is there anyway we can change just the glass, without the digitizer ? Not really interested in aftermarket panels. It will be great if just the glass that broke can be replaced. I've seen part listings in ebay, but no instructions on how to get it done. Could you please help ?
Okay, Thanks !! I was dubious whether aftermarket panels affect the battery life. It is already bad now :) What do you think about it ? I have ordered one part from ebay, US seller. It should reach by tomorrow.
+Arun Das Yeah that's a good question though but if anything I'd figure it to say battery for it using lower quality than OEM Part possible pixel density decrease or panel brightness...whose to say? But if you figure your battery to be bad do both at once I'd say. Who knows maybe you can show some of the experienced how do a glass only?? Best of luck to your repair!!
SD Fix It , So I got the display yesterday and replaced the complete assembly. As you said, removing the glass alone isn't easy at all, not with the tools that I was having with me. Anyway, after changing the complete display, the phone works just fine ! I bought a tempered screen protector and overall it feels like a brand new phone somehow. I never used any screen protectors and cases on my phone but I think I'll be using them both from now. :) I will update about the battery life later, might help someone who is interested to know about it ! P.S. For anyone following this video, as he mentions, be extra careful with the battery. Its easy to mess it up. Use a hair dryer to heat the sides. Not too much heat though. The main adhesive is on the right side, so it would be better to start from left side, free it and then the right side. The opposite works too, I started from the left. Mind the coax cable, it is there on the right side and can be easily damaged while you are trying to remove the battery from the right side !!
I tried doing this, I followed as closely as possible. But as I was removing the battery I accidentally stabbed it with a knife, and it sizzled and a sour smelling white smoke came out. It won't turn on or anything, did I kill it? And where's the best place for a replacement if needed?
Hi, thanks for the video. I just wonder why did you have to glue those tapes to the sides of the screen only to remove then like a minute after when you were attaching the new screen. Could I do this switch without your special tools? I do got cards here! haha
so I watched several videos on this and I replaced the screen myself. thought I had done it correctly AMD noticed that I accidentally pulled up a little piece of the white plastic on the charger port dock. its the plastic that goes around the ribbon that connects the battery to the dock. I figured is try and see if maybe it still worked and as i tried to charge the phone and boot up the red battery emblem appears and the phone will not turn on. so I figured it was from that little piece I broke so I replaced the whole dock and in having the same problem. the red battery pops up and it doesn't charge it just turns off. what could possibly be wrong?
+Wesley Pennington i am not too familiar with this phone however with that being said that doesn't go to say we cant help your issue if you would like us to take a look at it and see how much we would charge email us at info@sdfixit.com if you would not like to do so its possible you could have received a defective part maybe order a replacement and see if that works...
Okay, so I done all of this and phone turns on fine and everything. But the touchscreen won't work, any ideas why? I checked all the cables and they are all in right.
Hi I need you to answer a question like really fast. Does it matter if I use a AUO screen or TM screen? Like the writing in the flex cable behind the replacement lcd screen that says AUO FHD ZE551ML or TM FHD ZE551ML does itt matter? They're both ZE551ML..
thanks for sharing! i've just replaced my lcd but touch is not working :( any idea? i have experience in replacing screens but i can't understand why it isn't working i think i did perfectly
+Denis Canepa First things first do the easy work and go back and double check you seated all the connectors properly. If that still doesn't work it is possible you received a defective screen. If that is the case second time around make sure you do a dry install meaning do not apply adhesive and sorts to ensure the screen works then go back and install it the right way. So just return the old part or buy a new one.
+SD Fix It I cheked many times the connectors and that doesn't solve the problem.. the problem is that I glued the screen and the previous screen was broken and while trying to remove it I destructed it

Fabio, that was double sided tape. he was removing the film to expose the top side.
Two questions...
1. What is the "solvent" you prefer. Is 90% alcohol it or do you use something home brewed or otherwise?

I ask because I work in IT and have been tasked with repairing all the phone (mostly broken glass) for our company. Mostly Galaxy models but a few of these made the roster.
1. If you have access to MEK, I'd recommend that, but it will melt plastics.

+Marc Lester No :(
so, this went pretty successfully for me.. except the battery is stuck reading 50%... doesn't ever change... any thoughts??
I am also wondering why you used tape and then removed the same tape when the screen was partially installed.

+anthony851 its double sided tape sir
thanks, great vid.

Is it possible to remove the glass without a hot air gun? i can't remove the screen from the chassis
It is possible however it is a tedious process if your LCD doesn't work you can use plenty of heat and the screen should come off with ease.
I succesfully removed the glass and replace it with the new one but the problem that the phone had persists: i broke the screen but at some point the phone shut down and some times it shakes like when you turn it on but there are no life signs... what could it be??
This issue happens on the new screen?
yes, it starts shaking just in the moment you plug the battery on the motherboard..
Definitely sounds like you need a new screen and if that is a new screen that part is bad and or defective return it or ask for a replacement.
Everything is fine but the touch work 10% .. what could it be ?
Probably a defective part.

ok thanks, did i understand well you put the tape twice on eachother or just one layer?
Isn't this meant to be a repair video not a montage? Slow it down haha, good work though

I need to use the red adhesive? or is optional?
+Marco Aurelio Any double sided adhesive will do, but this red adhesive has provided us the best results.
But, if I don't want, I don't needs use, ok?
As long as the tape is sticky on both sides to hold the screen, it should be ok.
+SD Fix It I think he's asking if he can just not use ANY adhesive. This isn't an option is it? You must have some kind of adhesive, right?
+John Doesitintheair Yes, you will have to use adhesive to hold the replacement screen down.
