I swear, i had the same thought. These men are legends, and i was suprised to find out that Itsuno also worked on Star Gladiator, which is also one of my favorites from the PS1 era.
Listening to Itsuno-san and Toyama- san talk about their inspiration from mentors, challenges and ideas for upcoming projects. Gives me hope that that there's still developers out here with great understanding and respect for their players. This was great to watch, it takes me back to the early playstation era. At the same time I can't wait to see how Dragon's Dogma 2 and Slitterhead will turn out. I'm sure it will be something we will remember for centuries, just like their previous titles we grew up with and still love.
I really do enjoy this wave of content with channels like this and archipel that give great insight into Japanese devs and culture behind our fav games of all time.
This was amazing to watch. Itsuno-san and Toyama-san are both so very insightful on the things they create. It is always nice to see the thought process of Japanese devs and how they create our favorite games! Can't wait for Dragon's Dogma 2.
Listening to these two talk instills so much confidence in me for both of their upcoming projects. It seems like they both have an intimate understanding of what it takes to make a game both a fun and unique experience. Itsuno-san's vague teaser about wanting to incorporate an "everyday phenomenon" into Dragon's Dogma 2 is very interesting! I'm excited to see what he is talking about.
This year will be the decisive year for this title i think ;) I wish I could sightjack Toyama san's eyes to see the gameplay :D Can't wait to see the next video of this channel!
Even though it's been a while since this interview was released, being able to see two Creative Directors, Game Designers and Artists of the caliber of Hideaki and Keiichiro talk together was exciting and beautiful. You are among my all time favorite Creative Directors and Japanese Game Designers, and I greatly appreciated all the Works that you have managed to build over the years within two very important Japanese SoftwareHouses, and among my absolute favorite Japanese SoftwareHouses, such as Capcom and Konami. Delighted to found Bokeh Game Studios as a new major SoftwareHouse in Japanese Survival Horror genre, and can't wait to play both Dragon's Dogma 2 and Slitterhead.
We need so much more content like this. Sharing video game industry history in a casual open setting. I feel like this side of the story is slowly being lost, untold and it really explains why things were made the way they are. It also explains how the industry has evolved over the years. Every gamer should be watching this series - thank you!
sometimes i forget this is a game studio because of the epic people they are interviewing and growing up with games..and finally being able to hear the insight of these gamemakers is so awesome. they have my support regardless of what comes out!
Itsuno may not have been the father of dmc but he sure went above and beyond with dmc 3 and further define the genre. Thankful to toyama for creating gravity rush one of my favorite games of all time.
Oh man, what an awesome episode. I especially enjoyed the discussion about emotions and translating that into a game! The bungee jump comment from Itsuno-san was interesting because it makes me start to think back on experiences I've had. Like for instance, if comparing my experience with someone elses, was my enjoyment of a particular event due to the same causes? Like fishing, finally getting a bite and reeling in the fish might be my favorite part but for someone else the process of baiting the hook and waiting for a bite could be the most enjoyable for them. Slitterhead is sounding so cool! Can't wait to officially hear/see more!!
Excellent video, these videos are so…not? Japanese? I don’t mean offense when i say that but usually anything to do with the media side of Japanese stuff is high energy but here it’s laid back and i feel like i can focus on what you two were really talking about with no distractions.
wow now I am really interested cause like he said, there is barely any games that has tension that feels like a seinen manga, this interview + my love for tatsuya yoshikawas character designs makes me hopeful for this new IP. Itsuno being present talking about his thoughts on previous works and the industry just makes this video 100 times better cause he is probably my favorite modern game director. Thank you for the video and I cant wait for your game!
This is indeed absolute gold, pun intended! Best of luck to both of you :) PS: just watched the video with Shuhei Yoshida and someone in the comments mentioned that it would be great to bring in Fumito Ueda sometime in the future. I feel like that may be a distant dream, but if it were to happen, it would be absolutely blessed!
Golden hour - No creo que hayan podido elegir mejor nombre para estas conversiones. Para todos los que somos mayores de 30 estos videos son oro puro. Arigato, this videos are amazing!! Sensei, me and my PS5 can't wait to see more of your new game, for the best way about design hope could be only for the next gen of console!!
My impression is that Slitterhead is going to be closer to something like Suda51's Shadows of the Damned, wacky gory action game with horror elements, rather than traditional survival horror experience. Either way, i'm really excited and hoping for more info at upcoming TGA.
I really look up to Hideaki Itsuno considering the games he created, Devil May Cry 5 was very cathartic for me as for the longest time, i thought it would never happen! Perhaps it is childish of me but i wish i could learn how to make action games from Itsuno-san!
Honest to god I feel like buying 5 copies of Slitterhead just as a thank you for making these videos - then a sixth because I actually really want to play it xx ❤
I'm very interested to hear about the Seinen manga inspirations for Slitterhead, while I haven't really read many Seinen series myself (I think the only one I really fell in love with was Golden Kamuy) I am very interested to see what a game based off them will look like.
In the beginning you mentioned fumito ueda, Would be really nice to call him as well the other game developers from the 70's as you mentioned... That was really fun to watch!
Great video again, thank you for sharing such cool content! Listening to a discussion between two great minds of the industry is always interesting! Thank you kuma!
Every video you post is a little masterpiece. Lighting, pace, music, color palette, everything is really good, it makes the studio, and the people working there, feel closer to us, the audience.
Amazing video as always Bokeh Studio! I was wondering if you could please interview Yoko Taro or Hideo Kojima or Hidetaka Miyazaki or Katsuhiro Harada if you get the opportunity? Thank you again!
Itsuno-sensei ha trabajado en juegos muy impresionantes, Devil May Cry 3, 4 y 5, Star Gladiator, Rival Schools, Power Stone, Auto Modellista, espero con ansias Dragon's Dogma 2 :D
Mr. Toyama, You are right about seinen manga in the West. It is not popular yet, but there are still many successful works. There is an audience for contemporary works like "Made in Abyss" that reveres the circumstances of the material with extreme caution and attention. Every detail matters to the people who enjoy these works - and other designers like Mr. Yoko Taro have tapped into it to great praise. You should push ahead and pursue this type of design for games, it has incredible potential.
One of my favorite games called XCOM has these tough choices with real consequences that could lead to a vital character dying & you have to go on, & this aspect of the game created a lot of tension & excitement with varied memorable scenarios systemically created, it's very unique! I think Slitter Head is aiming for something like that. By the way, I love your content, two of my favorite game designers just having a talk about the industry is always super interesting, hope your future games be the best they can be.
I always loved it when devs talking casually to one another it shows that they are human as well as deep insights how development was like during those days. You have to admit the psx ports for the fighting games kinda stunk to be honest due to the psx hardware being on the weak side compared to the saturn which is the preferred choice for 2d fighters. How do I know because I played on some of those ports and they are not as good as the arcade version.
I hate to criticize, but I think the music is a bit loud. I speak (tho am still learning) Japanese, so I wanna be able to listen without distractions. While their voices are audible, the music is loud enough and the tones are high enough that the music interferes with my listening. I have severe tinnitus, so headphones with high volumes is not doable. Otherwise, I love the interviews, and Itsuno is a creator I really admire, so an interview with him is amazing. Thank you for your hard work.
Til alpha is zero is Japan. Like it makes conceptual sense, but at the same time, usually alpha would imply one. I think Japan famously has many things that start at zero instead of one though

Dragon's Dogma mentioned! 🥳
The directors of Gravity Rush and Dragons Dogma in one room? You two made my childhood that much better.
I love to death both games, Sad to see in what state is PlayStation now
