The fact that lego didn't even have the audacity to release a set of makuta or atleast a smaller version of it to the fans that were anticipating it for 2 years kinda bugs me.... but it's still a great set!
Not even a set since it was never released as a product. This is mostly a moc or a combiner of existing sets from two separate years and different waves.

I have seen people use the Mask of Control since the Mask of Ultimate Power wasn't released as an official set. wow, that is beautifully made, excellent job on the set and the review, also I feel a proper sendoff to Bionicle fans would have been a Makuta set and a Takanuva set, to have the story end on rebooted Mata Nui.
Currently working on getting the sets to build this behemoth...just ordered the mask too, actually. Kinda sucks that Lego isn't releasing Makuta as a set, but I guess I wasn't all too surprised. I'm glad you guys at TTV had fun reverse engineering him though. And thank you, LJ, for the instructions.
This model is roughly the same size as my MOCsona's projected size. So it's good to see what a build that took a couple months is like compared to one that's been in the works for two years. I just got the upper torso complete, working on a custom part. Afterwards I'll need to buy mahri pieces for the waist, and figure out the gearbox for the hips. Still making tweaks on the head build, something similar to a vahki maybe.
I really can't make me like the G2 of bionicle, it lacks of... i don't know, it's something that i only can describe as "spirit", and the G2 doesn't have it. I get so sad when I see the new models :c

I agree. I do have a certain fondness for the new models, some of them anyways, it just doesn't have the same feel as the original. The story was dumbed down a lot. Borderline insulting even. Back in 2001 when g1 came out not everyone had internet access, so Lego told the story through other means. Comics & CDs the models came with. I loved the sets when they first came out, but the story is what brought me in all the way. Now however with the access to internet being within arms reach there was hardly anything to support the story. Other than a series of 3 minute animations and a 6 episode Netflix cartoon, and for what story we did get all the characters are laughable and cliche. Not that g1 wasn't without flaws, but just the soul of the series was lost when they remade it. They gave it another go and fumble horribly with it. If they do decide to try a g3 hopefully they'll put some more work into it, and it'll be grand.
Here's a question for someone who's built Makuta. While I and many others have the funds to buy doubles of the sets for Makuta (I haven't yet, so I can't answer this), for someone who doesn't have enough money to buy all the doubles of the 7 sets necessary for Makuta, but does have one of each of the sets necessary (built) for him, would you suggest taking them apart to build Makuta? It's up to you whether or not you want to treat the spare parts leftover from Makuta as a factor.
Same issue for me! :( I just rebuilt all of them just to have the exact parts count but now that I see all of them toghether I don't know if I want to tear them apart again. I would really like to avoid buying all the 7 sets again. Also the cons of the combiner are quite grave since I don't like that banalce issue the figure has so I guess I'll use the left parts to improve the legs, at least that's what I'm going to do.
I got tahu and onua but I made them into MOCS and I really don’t want to get rid of them, plus I also had mask maker vs skull grinder but those have long since been used for MOCS like my main one using Kulta’s gearbox and a few extra gears to go along with it
Y'know, I've heard people hating on G2's run because "Oh it wasn't the old world or characters" or "oh it's just Hero Factory with Bionicle slapped on the front of it and a new paintjob" or some other thing. HONESTLY, I feel like if LEGO believed that G2 genuinely could've worked, it would've. The marketing for G2 is what REALLY was the bad part about it. Not the sets (Hell, they were some of the best Bionicle sets I've ever laid eyes upon), not the location...none of that stuff that you see a lot of people complain about for G2 so commonly. Think back in 2001. LEGO was on the verge of folding over to bankruptcy, and they needed to act fast lest they risk going under. They didn't just make the G1 sets and commercials, they marketed the absolute living daylights out of it. And so, G1 became as revered as it was. We got four movies, a number of games for varying platforms, and COUNTLESS comic books and early online serials. And what did we get with G2? A couple comics, a half-baked (at best) web-toon where it was just one guy doing generally the same voice for about twenty minutes, and a Netflix series that was...more or less just the web-toon, in a CGI-ish format, and replacing the Protectors with the Uniters, the "Creatures" if you will. That, and LEGO basically just dumped all their budget into three or four 24K golden masks for....some odd reason. Look, if you're gonna do something like that, have it be a one-and-done deal. That's just common sense. So, yeah, I feel like if LEGO had actually believed that G2 could've worked, Bionicle G2 could've been saved. I only have one more set to go to get all needed to build this figure! I've just been waiting it out to find better deals for the sets. It's crazy how high a lot of the G2 sets have gotten in the secondary market! I wish I had purchased duplicates of them back when they were still on shelves. But, ohh well. Almost there!
There's just something about this "set" I really don't like, I don't know if it's the legs, the upper arms, or the mess of parts on his thighs. Overall I think this figure is good, not great or not bad, just good
Is it possible for you to say something about how many parts from each of the sets that make this up is actually needed? For instance I imagine that there are relatively few parts from, for instance, uniter Onua in this model, so it might be better to buy the parts needed separatly instead of buying an entire Onua. With other sets that make up this model, that contribute with more of their pieces, it may be just as well to just buy the entire set?
I think we should put this on Lego Ideas, coming with black and gold masks. Maybe, if possible, it could also come with the top half of the Vahi, with a anti-stud to attach the original bottom piece. That part would be hard though
I do not like how Makuta is built at all. What I do not like about the combination model is the super limited articulation in the limbs, the gold being slapped on to a villain affiliated with the element of shadow (golden masks are excusable), the feet being too small for a top heavy figure, and the possibly illegal connections made on the figure. I myself have built Makuta but as a combination MOC that does not include any of the things I have just listed which LEGO's version of Makuta does have that makes their combination model a bad figure to build.
there are very few things in the world, which can be said are able to complete a person's life, however having this being an official set would totally complete mine
I can understand if this model was too complex to be released. But they didn't even give him a Mask Maker/Canister size set and no official Mask of Ultimate Power just shows how poorly they handled G2 without a final villain. Most of the villains in the show were just fodder/army builder sets.
Well Eljay, I'm pretty certain the Kardas Dragon and Ultimate Dume are waaaay taller than Makuta (Toa Mata Nui and Takanuva '08 are taller I think). Whoever reads this comment is free to quote me on that.
I saw a video, the combiner makuta is a tiny bit taller (with the M.O.U.P.) than Toa Mata Nui, who I believe is the tallest bionicle set. He is easily taller than Umarak (Destroyer form obviously) and is one centimeter taller than Greivous (Yes!). Anyhow, just wanted to clear things up! =)
I like him with the chain, I just don't think the masks put on the chain make sense. Skull Grinder's head makes sense (I'm pretty sure that's his entire head, not a mask) because he was one of Makuta's minions, but how could Makuta have the masks of Fire and Earth? Did he go to the shrines and collect the Toa's masks that they discarded? Why does he even want them? I like to display the chain with Umarak the hunter's mask and Umarak the destroyer's mask. That makes sense because UMARAK WAS MAKUTA'S MINION. Makuta could've easily collected his mask of shadows and the mutated mask of control. As for the mask of ultimate power, I'm going to wait until RolloutReviews helps Cyberhand to make an updated version.
I’m trying to build makuta buts been a while since I’ve actually did it at 6 years old crazy I know but yea what mask should I put if I don’t have any of the and because it’s been a while I’m having a harder time trying to build it just any recommendations
I just imagine TTV seeing Makuta at BrickFair nd one of them being like "So how much money is your bank accounts ?" after they were told which sets they need.
Tahu: Uniter of Fire, Onua: Uniter of Earth, Ikir: Creature of Fire, Umarak the Hunter, Umarak the Destroyer, Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder, and Lord of Skull Spiders.

I’m trying to build makuta buts been a while since I’ve actually did it at 6 years old crazy I know but yea what mask should I put if I don’t have any of the and because it’s been a while I’m having a harder time trying to build it just any recommendations
can I get a parts list for this?
What are his dimensions (mainly height) if you could check, I would be very grateful.
I really think that it would be better if Makuta had both waist and arm gear functions.
Any chance you remember how many pieces were left over from the sets? No1 ever shows that in their review =P
I wanted to see the chain that was dope and I like the gold mask morw
A.K.A. The big bionicle middle finger!
Awesome figure Eljay!

next time on the recap reviews, agil, the cannon poloybag, hopefully skull scoipio as well ( the little one , i got him and hes kinda of great )
The only G1 set bigger than this is Kardas, the rest are like a head shorter.
Is it possible to make a mask maker Makuta with the left over parts?

I just imagine TTV seeing Makuta at BrickFair nd one of them being like "So how much money is your bank accounts ?" after they were told which sets they need.
