- I LOVE Potatoes. Seriously! I decided this spring to try growing potatoes in containers at home. In this video I talk about growing food from scraps, and show you how to grow potatoes in containers, like I did. What do you grow at home? I'd love to hear your success stories.

I planted a slice of tomatoes in my patio containers. I now have 11 plants about 2 feet tall with 10 tomatoes on them. I planted beans in empty milk jugs. I have little beans growing.
I did 6 containers of potatoes this year they are great u leave them till they flower and then die back. Once the look dead and laying over u dump them and see what ya got ^_^ good luck
I have 8 tomato plants, a lemon tree, lime tree and a pineapple plant. It's a lot of fun to grow your own food.
I compost my vegetable scraps and use them in the garden and flower boxes, it’s always so exciting for us to find out what grows in out spontaneous garden! Last year it was acorn squash, this year we have 5 mystery plants.
Planting food to eat is so rewarding, and a great lesson for the kids. 😊
Great ideas, Dand. As a long time potato grower, you only need three eyes on a potato to plant it. You can cut those potatoes in many chunks to have more "seeds". If you purchase organic veggies at the grocery, you can save all the seeds, example butternut squash, etc. and plant them the next year. Non-organic may not produce.
Thanks for the tips!
Sorry, fat typing fingers!! I meant "Dana"!!
Homegrown potatoes taste amazing! I’ve grown Walmart potatoes that sprouted before I could use them
Inspiring. I can probably handle a container garden. You made it look so easy. Thanks.
As always thank you for your videos and frugal content. I just planted a couple potatoes that had gone too far and low and behold I have green tips. Hoping for a few potatoes come fall.
You can also use potato grow bags. They have a flap that you pull back that allows you to harvest a few potatoes without digging and allows the plants to continue to grow and produce more potatoes! Google them, they’re inexpensive and very convenient!
Thanks for sharing. I'd never heard of potato grow bags before. Great idea! 🌱
I have some pretty big celery in my containers. I put the core in a little water and sat in the window sill until it touted. Clean water everyday or two.
I had no idea it was so easy to grow potatoes! I'm going to try to do this! Potatoes and rice are my main starches on my WFPB diet :) Thanks for the video Dana!
I agree! I need to get some containers and organic potatoes and get to planting. 🌱
We just bought a freezer. I can’t believe how tough it was to find one! At any rate, we’re starting to buy in bulk and we’re dry canning flour, rice, beans, etc. We have an order in for bulk peas and corn which we plan on freezing. I personally have a feeling that we’re in for some really difficult times.
Sounds like exciting times for you! Yay!
I guess Im asking randomly but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can give me
Yes can't wait to start our organic garden
I did greens before and they came out good! I did save on my food budget. So gardening is a good tip.
We did two garden beds and an old washer tub for the container mounding method. And then the store ran out of soil! But I found some today so I'm going to mound them all for a larger harvest. I hope. If it works. I actually bought seed potato this spring from a feed & seed place. So I have high hopes.
Hi Dana! Happy Tuesday!
Dana! I don't get notifications for your videos... I'm subscribed with the bell icon to "all"
In sync as I had been thinking about starting a container garden myself and have 2 potatoes ready to plant. Much love & laughter 💞😀
You've managed to keep your children alive too 🤣 great video. Thank you!
Many thanks for another great video. I am going to try planting container potatoes (again), and this time, I will use organic potatoes. I did not have much success last time, but I did not use organic potatoes. I have a neighbor who plants vegetables in trash bins (poke holes in the bottom for drainage) and in plastic wading pools with great success. She moves the containers to sunny locations and can also move her garden if she needs the space for some other project.
Thanks for the idea. I have a plastic wading pool I'm not using (since the grandkids aren't coming to visit due to Covid-19 and riots).
I think I'll use it to plant some organic potatoes! 🌱
great video Dana - i feel potatoes is a little out of my comfort zone, i would be too impatient and nervous with stuff happening underground. But, herbs has been a mission this week and growing them in old wine boxes because hipster and all that lol
Your littles are so cute! “Do potatoes have seeds mama?” 😊
I look forward to your videos. They are always very informative. I am going to try container planting for potatoes. My garden is having problems with wildlife (groundhogs). They are also accompanied by squirrels and rabbits. They even climbed up into a large pot, which was doing very well with romaine, carrots, and peppers, my lettuce is chewed down to the ground and now they are working on the carrots. Mostly I am growing tomatoes. I am feeding the wildlife!
Thank You
Hi Dana,
How do you stay motivated now that summer is here.. no holiday.. put everything on hold and go on holiday?
Thanks for sharing your experience and tips!
Good to see you...always helpful....understand about the busy-ness of your home...try to enjoy it....next thing you know is a quiet house and adult children far away who you see on holidays only...wish I had savored the busy family just a bit more...
Thank you for sharing :)... I've been anxiously awaiting this video and definitely going to do it.
This time in isolation has spurred me to be more inventive and save money doing things at home. It has helped me to break the cycle of earn money, work hard, buy products. If I make or grow things myself it costs pennies on the dollar and is better for me. Making things allows for flexability in my work and I don't need to make as much money. I have made body butter, liquid soap and bone broth, my skin feels amazing and it cost way less money than I was spending at the store. Plus, no need to go to the store. We are enjoying the slower pace of life and eating better., spending more time with each other and finding great joy. No plastic containers to contribute to the landfill, I can use the mason jars over and over again.
*Great tips Dana! I don'thave a green thumb either.* 😉
Thank you so much for these tips!
What is the name of the tool you're using to mix the soil and peat moss? TY, Dana 😘
I love it, good job!!!!!
Update please 😊
Harvest the potatoes after the the plants have flowered and are starting to die back.
How often do you water your potatoes?
Wait for plant to start dieing. Then dig.
Angel Cash Thanks!!
How much money did you spend on your potting soil?
Nearly all foods have some protein in them, but recommending potatoes for their protein is like recommending bacon for its iron.
Potatoes are highly nutritious (just don't add fat such as bacon and you'll be fine).🥰🌱
