In the end, Henry got what he wanted. His manor, his daughter and an onslaught of new visitors bringing in cash... (that's us, haha).

I feel like I am already there and love the way you explain every detail that is important to the story. Love this ride, it's story and tone are set the moment you step into Frontier-land, and in my opinion, Phantom Manor has such a deep presence itself, that I feel that Frontier-land Paris as a whole is much darker than any other across the World. The fact that the phantom himself is voiced by Vincent Price is amazing as well. Amazing facts video by the way. The manor is one of my favorite versions of rides in Paris that I find to be completely varied from any other, as well as Space Mountain Paris and Tower of Terror in Paris' Hollywood Studios!
Love how you explain the ride sequences in the videos. Definitely keep doing that and the differences to the other parks. Can't wait til you get to the ride the best haunted mansion style ride in Hong Kong!! The one with the most creativity in my opinion.

But out of all seriousness, I think that Melanie is basically dead, I mean there's her tomb so why would her tomb be there if she is still alive? I just think that Melanie, that is shown in the ride itself, is her ghost wandering around still in her wedding dress as she waits for Jake to come back to her.

If I recall it used to be the phantom shaking your doom buggies at the end rather than Melanie hitching a ride, just as an example of changes made.
Just watched this because you just went to Paris and did that crazy trip.Loved the infoyou gave I always thought that the haunted mansion in Disney California and Paris were the same story. I'm curious did you see that at 4:29 in this that the knight looks like a hidden Mickey? Is that on purpose or is that just your angle of the shot?
A quick correction. The music box has always been in the gazebo playing John Debney's reworked version of Grim Grinning Ghosts. That version is used in the Disneyland Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, not the other way around. The teapot, however, did indeed originally tip to emulate spectral tea guests. Originally, Melanie's voice was heard coming from the Gazebo as well.
Funny when I was at Disneyland Paris (during it's 20th Anniversary before Phantom Manor changed) the weather was a bit of rain and sunshine. So when my brother and I went on Phantom Manor it was raining and I realized we were doing the classic horror movie trope; It's raining and our only place for shelter is an old abandoned place. But when we got out the ride, the sun was shining it meant we escaped the Phantom. But I liked the story behind the manor plus the design when I saw it.

Small correction: The music box in the gazebo, was there since opening day of the Manor. The music was borrowed later on for HMH. Not the other way around. I much preferred the original storyline and score, which was even more tragic for Melanie. But in the end, it was Melanie that saved you from the Phantom trying to get you into the final grave he's dug, and guided you out of the canyon to safe exit as she finally is able to move on herself.
Few years back asked my then 3-year-old what he thought of the ride afterwards, and he said, "It was all in French until the end, until that guy was laughing in English." Kids!!!!
Chris, you may have broken a land speed record reviewing the ride. Regarding the design choices, Walt didn't want the outside of the haunted mansion to be spooky, so I wonder if he would have liked this version. I tend to think not. Until next time....muuuhhhahahahahahahaha.

A few things you missed.(im someone who is into the “sea” lore) 1) the spirit’s actual name was the thunder bird and thunder mountain was it’s nest 2) each death was caused by Henry (the phantom) ravenswood before he died and 3) on the 5th grave you show (at 7:58) if you look above the epitaph that’s the sea logo 4) melony is indeed dead as it was confirmed in the original phantom manor (probably not canon in the new version) near the end where you could see her corpse moving on to the afterlife.
But my whole comment aside good vid and I didn’t know the phantom was behind the hanging guy (additional fact the four graves before the exit treadmill are all four of the men who’ portraits were in the stretching room)
What's amazing is I just got done watching a video of the Phantom Manor posted by someone and didn't realize it was Vincent Price.......what's shocking is I was a big fan of him. and normally reconise Vincent Price's voice..................I'm guessing I didn't reconize his voice is because it didn't focus on him but went back and forth between his voice and the person speaking Spanish right away............also I'm so used to hearing Paul Frees voice at the Haunted Mansion.

I was told at the Disneyland Haunted Mansion you actually walk past the “true” front door. There is a boot cleaner next to the door as you walk past.
