The Only Thing I Know for Real (Crossing Fates Mix)

Before we finally end off this series of mixes, I wanted to give Sam the TLC that he rightfully deserved. As the secondary antagonist and rival of the game's main story, his theme needed at least the treatment that the other bosses got, if not a little more.
While the Crossing Blades mix was an adequate representation of his theme as a whole, it lacked the story or the emotion behind it to represent his final challenge and (ultimately) his death in R-06. I'd like to think that this mix has those components.
It took me a while to get this one right, and the end result is a little longer than I might have hoped for, but I feel like I gave Sam a send-off that he'd appreciate. This mix is probably the closest I'll ever get to an "extension" of one of my previous mixes - the instrumental and vocal portions of the song are very similar - but I added a few things to separate it from my previous mix. Call it a "remastered" version, if you'd like.
"Badlands Showdown", "Denver - City Plaza", "The Only Thing I Know for Real", and "Human Conflict ~ Momento" were composed by Jamie Christopherson, as a part of the OST for "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance". I claim no ownership of the original works, but I do claim responsibility for mixing them all together to create the final product that you're listening to.

+Nakedstar It was the kind of suit that Fox used in MGS1, Solidus used in MGS2, and Old Snake used in MGS4, albeit way more powerful.
Sam Geuvenen but not better than raiden, Raiden's suit was a State of the Art cyborg.
Loved this battle so much that I went out and actually got my hands on a steel replica of the HF Murasama for about $90. Probably the best $90 I ever spent.

I can't be the only person who, the first time this boss came on, turned off all the sword upgrades, unequipped all recovery items, and went in with just the default sword.
I went against all the winds of destruction sword only. Its just...pure that way
Jetstream Artorias To be perfectly honest, I felt like the upgrades really help set in the fact that Raidan went quite a long way from being a whelp that Sam could make his little bitch, into someone who was a match even for him.
But, that could also be because I suck at this game as well, who knows.

I don't know, honestly! The music's so badass that I usually try to drag out the fight intentionally myself! xD
...Maybe I should upload that wooden sword challenge run I did a while back...this boss was HARD in that run. Like, avoids-everything-except-light-attacks hard. Took a good 15 minutes to beat him, lol.
Mono. You should check out WhiteFox's wooden sword and blue body run. He used the blue custom body and the wooden sword on Sam on revengance mode. I actually suggested it , as seen in that videos description.
Checked it out last night, man. Whitefox is a really great player, and I definitely learned something about the fight from watching it (that being that Defensive Offense is way better for opening up some damage than guarding is in the fight, lol). Looked very similar to my fight with him otherwise, except that I got hit a couple times and the one or two parries I did get off didn't do nearly as much damage (I was on Hard rather than Revengeance). xD
But yeah, good job on that suggestion! I'd definitely say he delivered on it, lol.
They can speak for themselves: the first time I played through this on Normal for the storyline I didn't buy any of the secondary boss weapons... Which then gave me a "Samurai" achievement for beating the whole game with only the sword. XD
Actually, the Sai i found to be even cheesier for this fight.

Yep! The idea behind having both of the vocals (original and in-game) in the mix was that one represented Raiden and the other represented Sam. The fact that they're distributed equally throughout the mix signifies how evenly matched both of them are when they fight in R-06.
Sam was just a human ,no Super powers ,no cyborg enhancements.

When I think about it.
The only reason the lyrics disable when Sam doesn't have his sword is because Raiden starts to think he's gonna be easier to take down.

intro is a bit long for me but I still like it. the whole product is great and conveys so much emotion in terms of the journey for Raiden the whole game.. but for ppl just wanting a badass soundtrack I'm going with the shorter version.. however thats just me.

Unfortunatelly, even DLC couldn't show us Sam's history and fully describe his as a character.
P.S. Actually, I hope we could see another DLC for MGR bosses in the future. 75% it will be Mistral.
Yeah, it's unfortunate that we don't get more details. I feel like they kind of wanted to make him an enigmatic rival to Raiden, and because he's not the main character, he doesn't get a lot of screen time for development. It's cool to speculate, but that doesn't really excuse a lack of exposition into his character in the first place.
As for another DLC, it's been a really long time since the game first released, so I don't know if Konami sees a profit in another one. If they do decide to release one, then yeah, most likely Mistral or Monsoon.
i vote for monsoon's own DLC, probably called "The Stains of Time DLC" where the blademode meter is actually the "Lorene's Force" energy

Just because I'm curious, why does the vocals and the instrumental of The Only Thing I Know For Real here sound different then in the actual vocal album?
spiderbiter23 I've layered two sets of vocals for this song at the same time (the one from the vocal album and the one that was used when the game was still in beta/demo form), so that might be why it sounds a little different from the actual vocal album.

Will you be able to put your best remixes into itunes? Not asking much cause I know the people for some fact and myself that I downloaded all your remixes from the youtube downloader.
To put these on iTunes, I would need to have consent from Platinum and their partners to redistribute their songs in an altered form on there, which is something that I highly doubt they'd give me even if the songs were getting ten times the views they have thus far. More than that, though, I wouldn't feel right charging people to download my mixes on iTunes when I didn't fundamentally change the songs around all that much, lol.
So unfortunately, the answer is no. Maybe I'll consider releasing an album on there for future remixes that are more original, but I don't think I could get these on there even if I wanted to. :/

Brady D It's a little different. I made that mix primarily because the OST for this game didn't include that song on it, so I wanted to give people a version that mirrors what the songs sound like on the OST. So it's less cinematic than some of the mixes, but still true to the boss it represents, in my opinion.

I think that this mix would be better if you did both the manic agenda and the normal (how it sounds when you actually fight Sam) versions of the song but put the normal version as sort of a back-up to the manic agenda version so you would primarily hear the manic agenda version but in the background you would hear the original
