Upon studying advaita vedanta, one comes to find the limitations of buddhist concept of the self. It looks like they were going quite right but at the end failed to recognize the self. After all, it is the self that gives existence to their analysis.
But what is this self that you refer to ? Who is this self? Where is this self? When you wrote your comment, did your "self" write the comment? Or did the comment birth itself due to the aggregate of concepts that your mind beholds? and your fingers began typing due to the mind body connection.
@@YOtshay the Self is my sense of being itself, my undisputed, unadulterated, unfragmented, unchanging, self-effulgent sense of 'Is-ness', the unqualified, unassociated Witness-Conciousness apart from the body-mind complex that witnesses the changing empirical world but remains unaffected by it. It is Existence itself. It is Knowledge itself. It being beyond causality, doesn't act(write a comment, for example), for action involves cause-effect relationship. Action happens in the realm of Prakriti(nature). The Self is just the Witness and not the doer, but upon reflecting on the ahamkara-vritti(mental mode that produces the sense of 'I') in the suksma sarira(subtle body), it assumes false sense of doership. In reality, the Self is the basis, the essence of the universe, just like water is the basis of the ocean, clay is the basis of a pot, gold is the basis of ornament. The biggest blunder in philosophy is to try to find the Self as an object of knowledge in the objective and subjective world. It is finding the Self by the Self. Buddhism isn't the only philosophy on earth. Unless you properly know the concept of Self in other schools it isn't right to declare there is no Self. To say that 'there is no Self' is to say that 'I don't have a tounge'. :)
@@tenzinnyiche3815 the Self has nothing to do with body-mind. The Self is separate and unattached from this empirical universe including the body mind. It is the Conciousness in which the 'illusory' body mind appears, just like the dream body and dream mind appear in conciousness in a person's dream but is un attached to it.
Am I the only one who wants to say pardon? Shouldn't there be someone who can explain these things so that all can understand? I looked everywhere this subject matter called Emptiness and self is never explained so we can say oh I definitely understand now. It is very important we understand! However why after years of investigation, there is still difficulty in explaining it. Is it not the buddhist goal to help everyone understand? Why is it so difficult if you yourself understand? I am sure something so important there got to be a better way of conveying it! Wisdom must be able to conveyed, otherwise how can we believe and practice??
As I found roughly the explanation of emptiness or no self concept is we can't find an aggregate analytically whereas we grasp whatever appears as a solid by it's own. Actually nothing exists independently. So called I doesn't exist independently. So long this very body n mind is there I or self is there. As long as one is not certain that self doesn't exist, one can never be free from being slave of so called I or self which always indulge us in every activities.
There is a western philospher Jay Garfield who talks about buddhist ideas and western ideas that try to express the same concept. I found him very helpful as these other perspectives and examples helped me to get a (little) hold on what emptiness is.
👌= His Holiness 🛐🙏. His Holiness Dalai LAMA already talk about Self , Emptiness & notion of No-Self very clearly but people don't understand because of different level of understanding & understanding comes from Your own experience not from information given by Holy Man ( Sat GURU ) , A Living Buddha. The Buddha say don't believe without experience. First examine my teaching & if it is helpful & good to you than follow it. He never force to anyone. So don't believe. Practice , practice , practice. To understand the emptiness , mind must be zero , be still , reach to heart Level. Only than there is experiencial understanding not bookish understanding. Long Live His HoLiness Dalai LAMA , Most Compassionate Buddha. My deep respect & humble bow in Your Lotus heart ! Humble Thank You ! 🕉️🌏️🕊️ ♥️🕊️🔔🌏️

Without analysis it’s there. With the analysis it’s empty
Great connection between the infinitely divisible non objective “I”/Self and Present Moment.

When body and mind are no more, self isn't there. Designation of mind, I think, pls correct me if false.

Body is not the self, mind is not the self, but the energy which mobilizes body and illuminate the mind is the soul.
yo
Jeffrey Hopkins got booted from Dalai Lama translating because he's gay .. This former monk should've been booted when he disrobed ..
Is this true?
Why are you here spreading discursive speech wearing a robe of a monk? If anyone needs to disrobe - that's you ! look in the mirror buddy !
