Tillandsia is a genus of around 540 species of evergreen, perennial flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae, native to the forests, mountains and deserts of Central and South America, the southern United States and the West Indies.
The thinner-leafed varieties grow in rainy areas and the thick-leafed varieties in areas more subject to drought. Moisture and nutrients are gathered from the air (dust, decaying leaves and insect matter) through structures on the leaves called trichomes.
Tillandsia species are epiphytes (also called aerophytes or air plants) -- i.e. they normally grow without soil while attached to other plants. Epiphytes are not parasitic, depending on the host only for support. -wikipedia

Anyone else find air plants addictive af? lol.
They are the pokemon of the plant world.
Absolutely
ye damaged my spine so it's my lightweight gardening. bought aquarium rocks to put them on and some bonsai trays to put sand slate and mini mountains .list is endless. ye, I'm hooked
I never knew spanish moss was considered an air plant! Thanks for teaching me something new. Your green house looks like heaven!
I am disabled and on a tiny budget . So I don’t have much money for extras . I do love looking at all your beautiful plants and your greenhouse . Thank you for sharing
Thank you, I recently bought my first air plants, was told they don't need watering. But found they were looking very grey, after watching you spray yours I did the same for mine. They greened up in seconds, it was amazing to watch.
I just bought my first 3 airplants today and have been watching UA-cam trying to learn more. I came across your channel and have learned a lot so far.. thanks
The air plant roots are actually very interesting because they serve no purpose but to attach to trees or mounts, they actually don't take in any water (weird). I have a Tillandsia Cyanea which is actually a species of tillandsia that grows in the ground, you should check it out the blooms are amazing
Terrestrial tillandsia?
I have a Tricolor I found randomly in our yard (maybe blown in like a tumbleweed) and I just wanted to thank you for this video, it's a great look at them and extremely informative!
thank you, very informative, love the Spanish moss.
thank you for teaching us about air plants. I love them alllllllllllllllll
I love your greenhouse. I love to collect rare succulent, cactus, and air plants. Thank you for sharing your filming.
Brad you rock! ❤️
hey brad, I work at Russell's bromeliads, where you got your air plants from. I recognized the tag and we ship to Canada quite often. The spiky one you show after your Ericknoblock is known as "vernicosa" and your little one called ionantha is pronounced, (I-on-an-tha) all tillandsia are in the bromeliad family and all tillandsia are epiphytes', they take no nurturance through their roots, only use is to grasp trees. Yes some bromeliads are epiphytes but not all are, they need some soil. Enjoy!
Adrian Cousinit cool, thanks for the great info!
hi!Brad..i love your videos..they are very informative.
Awesome collection 👏
I'm a new tillandsia fan, but as I watch this video, the first thing that I noticed was your Tulamben-Bali Diving Adventure shirt. ☺ Hello from Indonesia, and thank you for your tillandsia care tips!

Sick ass video big homie!
I love air plants after being introduced to them. I have a crested gecko in a live planted set up with a custom background and have spanish moss, tricolor, seleriana, oaxacana, velutina, tenuifolia, pseudobaileyi and a few others as well as some bromeliads such as neoregelia fireball. Air plants are by far my favorite kind of plant for their versatility, nice video and nice green house. Also my tricolor has just bloomed and it has gone a fantastic deep red, very pleasing on the eye!
Yes, Air plants are so fun and easy. Thanks for watching!
its good video!!!
Nice collection! (Am so wishing I had a greenhouse now....)
Im just full of surprises!
Cool, have to have some big glass than !
Great little collection you have there :) I thought it was neat that you mounted one with an orchid.
Thank you
I really enjoy these I have two of the regular kind not sure which variety its in one of my videos. I also have the Spanish moss I didn't know I had to soak It. I just mist it once in a while until it turns dark green. Currently getting obsessed with These. Previously I had the bulbosa type they couldnt handle the cold and died
yes!, thanks for watching!
glad you liked, that one red one is awesome. it is going green now...not sure why. Any idea?
I saw some air plants at the local garden center the other day. I didn't know anything about them so didn't get one, butafter watching your video, I am goiing back and give it a try.
roots help air plants grab on the surface of a tree or were it is
very nice!
Thanks!
I put them one on a slice of dry sassafras and I wanted to know how long it takes to grow its roots to attach to it's all support
What/where/how do I make/buy fertilizer for my air plants. I've ordered a variety pack of tillandsias, but they didn't come with fertilizer. I enjoyed your video very much, it was very helpful, and your plants are gorgeous!
hi brad, can you post a video of the air plant mounted with the orchid? I've recently started getting into both types of plants. I'd love to mount an orchid with a phalaenopsis orchid!
nice brassia brad, and i see that wine glass in the back there haha im glad im not the only one who enjoys a drink while watching the plants grow.
I'm in the UK, what sort of winter temperatures do Tillandsias need
Hi Brad. I have just started working with and obsessing about Tillandsias!! I am in Cornwall in the UK and am quite concerned about how to keep my plants. I have a small home and no space for a green house unfortunately. I do keep them well watered and sprayed and dunked in water every month or so for 6-8 hours. I am worried that over winter the sun is lacking around here....humidity isn't a problem but do you have any suggestions about keeping them warm and in sun during the winter at all? You have a wonderful collection, i love the spanish moss but it is quite difficult to come by here. Hoping to build up my collection over time. Your videos are amazing! keep up the good work!! And thank you for the orchid clip tip! I may well borrow that one!
good
Brad, could you please identify the first Tillandsia you showed (the 1st one you bought)? Thanks.
Omg Brad are you related to Elijah Wood? This was a great video as I'm a beginner to Tillandsia. Thanks for sharing such great advice : )
Someone gifted me a pillow sized air plant bunch lol, researching how to care for em now
Its kinda funny ,I live in Florida and we have spanish moss everywhere ,I never thought how beautiful it is to some people ,also there is wild green moss growing all around our area ,its fun to watch these videos
Love those. How do you grow in Southern California. Dry and sunny area? It rains here and is cold during winter and is dry and hot during summer.
They are great plants, another I missed in the video was The thinner-leafed varieties grow in rainy areas and the thick-leafed varieties in areas more subject to drought.
Brads Greenhouse & Gardening kkkk
thanks Greg! Yeah it is a big glass but it just had water in this time I'm afraid haha.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome, glad I could help answer a few questions for you. Thanks for watching!
Great video. I have a Tillandsia madusae. I am seeing varying recommendations on how to water. Some say you need to soak them while others say that misting is enough. What is your strategy?
Ooooo! You're a Canadian!!!. Lovely! I live in Quebec. I bought my first air plant today, but I need to find a Canadian supplier. Both for air plants and spanish moss. Can you point me in the right direction?
you changed your youtube background. i like. i have air plants too
hey there! hope your day is good. I am in central florida.wondering if you know where I can find these for free if at all possible
yes they are cool. Now go but one...maybe two!
Hello Brad I'm new to your channel today. That was a great simple video on Tilansia. I have none right but have been planning to change that very soon. Where is a reliable source to buy on line???
Hola!!!como se mantiene el clavel del aire???A la sombra o al sol?gracias!!
Hi brad I am having air plant for more than a year but no pups nothing coming. Your Spanish moss suggestion very helpful, please help me with more information for tillandsia how I can grow. Thanks
What should I put my new air plants on so I can grow them huge? I don't wana glue them really
i found a red air plant variety.. light red when dry and dark red when watered. =)
Hi, I have a tillandsia ionantha that is growing a pup, but I noticed that the parent plant is starting to kinda turn a caramel color and the bottom leaves. Would you suggest to not water as much. I mist all my plants twice a week, and the first Saturday of every month, I give them a 20-30 min bath. Thank you:)
krutibandhu sethy my mom got a nice new big air plant. It looks like the one brad was holding in the beginning of the video, it has multiple growth points on the base and they are just as big as the center plant, are they pups and do I separate them?
I got some different air plant seeds from Amazon. I found out after receiving pkgs. that they came from Malaysia. I will follow what you do... thanks
I am new to air plants and was wondering if you could answer a question. I bought my first air plant a week or so ago and noticed that a lot of the leaves had brown rotten spots and such so I peeled off the rotten leaves. Now however it is a fraction of its size and was wondering did I kill it? The leaves that are remaining look pretty healthy and it has started producing a pup and was wondering if by getting rid of the rotten brown looking leaves did I damage the pup? Thanks.
I love you.
Hi,all of my plants(50) of them are outdoors under a patio cover. The night time air temp gets down to 50° F. All of the plants are doing well except for the xerographica(2) of them. They have been outdoors for two years with full sun alternating to in-direct light. The leaves are turning light brown & look dried out. All of the plants get watered at the same time and same amount of mist/water. Do you have any suggestions to help get these plants healthy?
Great info!!! The mic was a little low.
what can I do for my old man's whiskers, plant it usually dies in summer , i keep it under the carport I dont have a shady spot in the garden in winter is fine but summer it just brittles and I wet everyday but it does not help thanks
I have a bromeliad with violet quill. Which potting media should i use for it ? Please help me..
I live in Savannah Georgia where Spanish moss is plentiful-I've never seen anyone bring it inside-does it need to be debugged first?
When planning a greenhouse. What side of the house will give me the best results? I want happy plants. I love orchids, carnivores, and air plants. The house has room on all sides: NSEW. North and East have grass.
At this yr, whats your update on moss tips?
How can you make your green house moist ? Thx
Hello, I know this is an old video, but could you please advise what is the exact species of the first plant you hold for the camera, the one you mentioned was the first one you bought. My grandmother had that exact plant hanging outside the house, it was living there for many decades, and I'd like to get one just like it! Thank you very much in advance!
Hi Brad,,,, I just bought a couple of these,,, do they need any feed solution??? Thanks...
You said you hit the flower with a paint brush could you explain more on this?
TheRealDeal412 For pollination.
Around 3:50, you said that you hung your air plants with orchid clips! Could you elaborate more on how this is done?
Very nice! Did it have a name tag?
Hi Brad - bought an air plant the other day and the florist advised me to spray it once in awhile with a epsom salt solution - have you ever heard of this...I am guessing it would supply some mineral nutrients. Thanks for your videos; they are very informative.
I've heard of Epson salt also. I haven't tried any yet. Have you tried it?
would love to see a new update on these
