If it was me I would check for spark and fuel first before starting to strip that engine, it just sounds like no fuel when your trying to start it.

compression test, to rule out head gasket, then timing cover off to check belts, and take it from there.

copart are getting worse, my last purchase last week was a car photographed wet, when i picked it up the passenger side needs a complete respray on the near side due to laquer peel on top of the damage i could see, when i went back over the pictures it was a dry sunny day and the cars near it are dry 😞

Timing Belt? The next step should be to take off the oil pan and front cover to check the condition of the timing belt and oil pickup.

Compression test is easy, checking for fuel is easy, check for spark. That’s the first things I would do. then put a booster on the battery and turn it over.

I have heard these engines give strange compression tests i would check fuel and spark first to get her running as she must have been going as per pictures . But £200 it would cost you that for two tyres ? Look forward as always to the videos on this 👍🏼

Hello Mark, brilliant video, nice car for the price,I thought it might be a wetbelt issue why it won't start.if it was my car I would probably sell it as it's expensive lol.a new engine might be a better way to keep the car on the road.

Hi mark love how your mixing up your format lately if you remove the oil cap you can inspect the wet belt there is a tool to measure the width plus you can see if it’s snapped before pulling the head off or dropping the sump off am sure your get to the bottom of it and it will be a nice car for someone. The most likely reason nobody was bidding on it is because of the reputation of the pure tec engine.

Copart clearly state that vehicles categorized as "run and drive" will start and drive 10mts forward and reverse. It doesn't necessarily mean you can drive it home but in your case you are entitled to give it back but it would be easier if you tried to start it before you left Rochford. However it is still a cheap car

Please take this as well meaning constructive comment, this channel could be one of the best but theirs too much explaining and filming to go to copart etc I also don’t think you’re following a proper diagnosis path or you’re not filming it ie is their a spark or fuel pressure oil in the engine smoke test for air leaks just basic stuff before taking it to bits put more power to aid starting and some easy start because it sounded like it will start if it doesn’t then move on to other stuff like timing but you said no faults on scanning I think this would flag it up,like I said at the beginning I’m not trying to troll you I’m trying to help because you’ve got yourself into the ideal position UA-cam wise to be much bigger, take care mate🎉

    Evening
I’ve watched this video, and I’m not impressed at any level
What is this video about ?
    Buying cheap cars ?
Fixing a cheap car while it appears your technical knowledge is limited ?
Why would I say something like that. !
This car is a very simple/basic engine and I would consider the recorded mileage as average (just over 10k a year)
Regarding the compression test you carried out
You only carried out a basic dry test
    What about a wet test
Also you carried out this test with the induction/throttle closed - should be fully opened
What about doing a oil pressure check - is this engine fitted with hydraulic tappers - low or no oil pressure can affect the operation of the valves
To form a professional opinion on this engine should take no more than one hour - possibly a 15 minute video
    1. Fuel & ignition - okay
    2. Compression test - wet & dry with throttle fully open- best to do this after oil pressure test
    3. Check valve timing - belt/chain tensioners
Oil pressure can affect the hydraulic tensioner on chain driven
I feel you need to first ask yourself “what am I trying to do by making this or any other video
If repairing damaged or non running cars as a hobby - that’s fine but kelp it as a hobby absolutely nothing wrong with that - but do otherwise it makes a mockery of guys that spend years training to get qualifications to do so
