That's amazing. I didn't realize that horses were capable of internalizing fear like that and that they can actually feel their rider's heart-rate.
It also demonstrates how various temperaments of horses can "internalize or externalize" stress. Conducted a study years ago that showed horse who internalize stress had higher number of ulcers compared to those who displayed and releases their worry. Glad to see this research .
I wonder if we could teach horses to externalize stress in a healthy way that doesn't mean we get thrown off or they run away.
Best horse I rode was the one who kept on going even though I was screaming and angry at the danger. She kept calm and rode through and led the others behind her.

Police horses are worth their weight in gold.
Why even take this test? Horses are definitely brave. They fought in war for gods sake.
Aimz and shoot Horses especially at shows have to be able to stay calm and complete the course with their rider. Horses that work with Police are used for public control and they don’t want them to freak out at loud noises and hurt someone
not sure if u've been around horses that often, but trust me most horses are scaredy cats, I have this one horse who is TERRIFIED of his own farts

@@adamirfazilov5693 horses are brave they are very very reactive ..i am not even sure its what we would understand as fear. their senses are different. They react differently to things ...i mean some things i would be scared of they run at in life.
if you aren't smart enough to be afraid then you aren't brave, u r just stupid or self destructive, it takes fear to be brave

I wouldn't really call that bravery, I think the horses are just aware that if they remain calm they'll probably get rewarded in some way. Horses can be brave, but this isn't an example of it

What are u talking about? In war soldiers said the bravest men were the ones who were terrified but didnt show it and just followed orders. Those were brave men.
All animals are awesome in their own unique ways but I do not like what human put them through, what they require them to do for only the benifits for humans. Human exploites anything and everything :(

I’m not one of those feral bitless advocates(I used to be, but learned that all instruments, including bits and bitless bridles can be used in wrong or abusive ways and all horses are different, thus they prefer different things. Some prefer the nose pressure while others prefer for pressure to be in the mouth), but I’m not sure I understand why the bit is so long? Obviously a curb/shank but does anyone know exactly what kind? The one horse in the umbrella test was ridden in a loose ring snaffle while the other was a dutch gag? If the Police horses are that well trained and desensitized, do they really need the extra leverage? Sorry, kind of a bit novice. I don’t ride horses so I don’t wanna make a bunch of assumptions. If the horses just prefer the shank then it is probably okay. Really just wanna know the bit name so I can research on it.
My question is if they're using Bit in their mouths, does that mean the Officers have Soft Hands? That's the excuse me a Culture Critics like Rick from Think like a Horse usually get.

I couldn't agree more Charles, worse the rider is more scared of the horse than the horse of the situation, in both cases, if the horse senses the riders fear, how is it to be expected otherwise?
Yeah, I thought the same thing. The Horse didn´t learn to trust or not to be scared, it learned that he has to endure its fear and not to show his feelings. Not really healthy...
Human soldiers are also highly conditioned. That doesn't mean they're not also brave in the midst of battle. It's just a matter of perception and semantics.
Soldiers in war braved the same shit with the same "learned helplessness" that's what bravery is. Enduring something even though it scares you. I'm guessing you've never been brave in your life
