I picked up a soft sided fish bag from Academy, pretty decent size. It's sort of triangular in shape, so I added 4 pad eyes to the front of my kayak. Use carabiners to anchor it down to the pad eyes to the strap loops that run along the side of the fish bag. Works pretty well. The only real disadvantage is it covers the access port in the front, but I don't ever have a need to get in there when I'm on the water.

Hey Tony, I too use a soft cooler in the kayak. A few months ago I came across these "cooler shock" ice gel packs (not the hard ones) on amazon. They're incredibly thin, light, cheap, long lasting and freezing cold. Highly recommend, no more messing with ice.

@@bradwadefishtx I'm gonna have to get some and try them out now. I hate buying ice because it gets messy later.

Good thinking regarding keeping your drinks and food in zipper bags. Here's another idea, put the fish inside a heavy duty contractor bag for another layer of protection.

Soft sided looks convenient. Is it harder to clean?

The way I keep my catch fresh is using the ikejime method which means you kill the fish immediately then shut down its spinal system then bleed it

I been fishing for 45 years and still cannot stand to see a fish suffocate to death, so i also kill it immediately, remove the head, guts and blood.
I my opinion, fish also taste better when bled.
When on a beach, bury it under the wet sand with only tip of tail sticking out or put a marker. It stays fresh all day.
On a kayak, in ziplock in cooler in ice or ice packs (as per the video)

@@gerhardstrydom5249 I agree, fish can build more complex flavors if bled and killed immediately

Fiberglass repro mount in the background looks pretty cheap. What company did that come from so I know who not to order from?

Is it best to "bleed out" the fish, then put it on ice before the long drive home? I fish the gulf in Port Aransas, TX...so those species.

I’ve never bled out my fish and it’s 2 hrs from Galveston to my home in Spring. I usually soak my fillets in saltwater in a Tupperware in the fridge for about an hr. You can remove the bloodline and it works just as good as bleeding the fish.
Or bleed them, and then put them in the cooler. It’s just messier cleaning blood in your driveway.

@@briarfox637 thats all types of wrong.. after catching make sure you bleed it out and do not put water on the fish especialy if it is opened as the filet would be ruined and mooshie.
