What Bud Powell plays here is simply disproportionate in comparison to the other musicians envolved (all great!). The two choruses he plays in this "Move" do not only define Bebop; it defines Music From Heaven.
In their 1987 New Year's concert together, Prince announced to the audience that it was past Miles's bedtime. Holidays were [a little] rough on MDD,III!
I only listened to Bud the whole time. Great Comping! But I don't think his solo was as brilliant. The beginning was very good, but he trailed off after the second A section it's mostly repeated licks from his other work. The rhythm is very on point, though!
Yes, he was using his standard licks towards the end, but that doesn't mean he trailed off; jazz players have done this all the way back, though Bud rarely depended this much on his stock arsenal.
It takes all of about 3 seconds to know it’s Bud Powell on Piano. Damn
Bud’s solo is on another level ... genius
Holy Smokes
"Move" was the song Bud Powell and Fats Navarro would eat their contemporary musicians lunch with.🙃🥁

Bud Powell is on a different level.
"Little Miles Davis" - bet he loved that! :-)
lol
He was probably ready to fight
symphony sid was a legend, and totally out of his depth when it came to these musicians...

The look Miles shot him with that comment...I can only imagine
Bud is killing this...for real...OMG!!
Damn this was when bud was 25
There are those who doubt Mile's bebop chops. Listen up!
伝説のクリスマスセッションですね。パウエルもマイルスも素晴らしいです。 まさにモダンジャズの最高峰だと思います。
I hear people say miles was struggling to keep up at the time, but this is some serious playing
This is great! Thank you for posting.
Great stuff; Miles doing Bebop! All of these guys are smoking.

Any one know if there is more from this concert? This is peak Bud.
They also played Hot House, All God's Chillun Got Rhythm, and an incomplete version of Ornithology.
Little Miles Davis? Miles' would have kicked Sid's ass if he tried that in the late 50's early 60's! Lol
😁🌱🌼💚
bro, do you have Hot House from this same concert? it's the same personnel, absolutely sizzling. It has one of Powell's darkest solos.
Sonny stitt can smoke!
from 4:42 - 4:48 WTF!!! I cant breathe
miles was only 23!😮
😊
🌷❤️😀
Bebop Baby! Miles probably socked Sid after the set!
This is the trio session from the Massey Hall concert in 1953.
No it is not
I prefer Miles at this stage of his career.

I don't think it's even relevant to critique Bud Powell, to be honest. He is bebop. I don't have a clue where he 'trailed off,' though...
