    I worked a a place doing delivery work they had a the pro master and the transit van . The bigest problem with pro master is seating hight. It made it a no go for me. I needed to be able to lower the seat down about a foot to be comfortabl. If you can get past that its a great van.

    • @mahad8646
      @mahad8646 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah that's the main reason for me too the ram pro master is more like driving a bus compared to the transit which is like a mini van. Also I want to have swivel seat on my van since I can turn around and stretch my legs when I take a break on the road but that just adds more height and I barely have enough vision as it is as someone tall on the pro master.

It drives smooth, turns tight, the sound system and gadgets are koolll - this new Uconnect device is really trick and much better than the prior ones.....Lots of sensors on this truck but hey, it's all covered under warranty so enjoy the advances in technology. Finally, I have the bench seat that seats 3 - Was skeptic at first but now I'm so glad I have this !! @@jamesoldman3021 there’re school bus versions of the Promaster offered for sale. The conventional 15 passenger vans like the Ford Econoline, Ram B Maxi Van and Chevrolet Express vans are the ones which basically went away due to their higher center of gravity and narrow rear wheel track width. The single real wheel versions are the ones we’re the ones with the most issues. The dually cutaway/chassis cab models were not the issue.

      You are correct. If they had dual wheels they are acceptable. As you say made from the cab/chassis versions. Where I live all the ambulances are built from the same configuration. Primarily using the Chevrolet/GMC chassis.
      Slightly different topic but the ProMaster when used as a delivery van are not well liked in the winter due to the front wheel drive. With a maximum load they tend to have traction problems in the winter. Now I am in the Rockies which is one contributing factor and the type of body. The box or cube van's having only the rear door. If they end up having to load with all the heavy weight for the first few stops it goes onto the rear axle and the front is light.

    • @americanrambler4972
      @americanrambler4972 2 роки тому +1

      @@jamesoldman3021 I have seen very few box van chassis cab versions of the Promaster. I think there are a number of reasons for that. A big one is the box van floor/bed height. Most box vans I see have the floor height positioned to match up with loading docks. The Promaster floors are much lower. Also, I do not see any dual rear wheel versions. You are correct in that many box vans utilize the dual rear wheel weight capacity and stability the wider track provides. And most of those trucks offer bigger, more powerful and stronger engines, transmissions and drive axles.
      I have seen a number of the utility box versions of the Promaster. (Those with all the tool box doors on the sides.) those work out much more satisfactorily because most of the time most of their weight is carried in the middle between the axles. But if your use of a Promaster entails loading them tail heavy like many box trucks are, then the benefits of a front drive platform are compromised.
      The Ducato, Jumper and Boxer vans are very successful in European service. But when the loads get heavier, say above 6,000 to 8,000 pounds payload, the rear wheel drive dual axle trucks move into the lead. A number of manufactures offer front wheel drive commercial van models in the Promaster size range.
      For 2023, Promaster will get a higher roof version of the van that has been on sale in Europe for a number of years. We currently only get the low roof and mid roof versions. (H1 and H2). The taller H3 version is on its way.

    The Ram Promasters start at $46,000 for the base model. He is mum about the drastic price increase. I don't believe for a second they get better gas mileage. It's got the same 3.6 liter engine. My 2020 118" only gets 18 mpg on the freeway unloaded. If you're thinking about van building you're deluding yourself if you think these vans get good mileage. These vans are priced for businesses and you're talking 50 to 60k. You can't get regular insurance for a Promaster. You need expensive commercial insurance, but you may be able to get around it because this particular van has a second row seat for passengers, but a two seater is definitely commercial. The VIN designates it as such so you can't fool your insurance company. AAA doesn't insure vans. I had to get Geico. Don't get me wrong it's a phenomenal van for camping which is why I bought mine. I got mine for 34k but the dealers are tacking on a $10,000 surcharge just because they can. I don't know what this guy is talking about the partition. Those things are the first thing you would take out because it limits your space. The heater and A/C can heat and cool the entire van space. You don't need that partition. I could blast the heat for a few minutes and the cargo hold is cooking hot.

    Here are some observations after owning a 22' 159 extended high roof 3500 for a few weeks. 1) The 22' has the mentioned motor and transmission updates, and it performs very well. Acceleration is great, and it seems to not have to "find a gear" nearly as much as the outgoing 6 speed. 2) the 22' has all of the interior upgrades shown here. IMO, it is a huge design flaw to only have telescoping steering wheel. I'm assuming that the 23' is the same setup, and that is nothing short of disappointing. I'm 5'10" and the steering wheel feels way too high. Ergonomically, it just doesn't make since. Also, though a lesser complaint, is that fact that the heat/air vents to not rotate side to side. How hard would it have been to have this basic feature? 3) If a noted segment of the market is van life folk, why not make a 4 or 5 person seating option with walk through capability. The crew option looks slick for a legit crew applications, but I wonder how many potential customers are going to be put out with the lack of access to the cargo area from the sliding doors or front. It seems that more people would benefit from 2 captains chairs or a smaller bench in the 2nd row area that could possibly even fold into a bed and still allow walk through access to the rear. There needs to be an in-between option from the standard 2 person cargo and the crew options. 4) The headlamps are embarrassing on the 22'. I'm glad they'll be better for 23'. On the whole, the Promaster drives and handles WAY better than anticipated. The touch screen is super nice and actually nicer than the Jeep Gladiator that I replaced with the Promaster. The steering is also better on the Promaster (if you know, you know).

    I have worked on hundreds of the Fiat Ducato and a couple of the Peugeot Boxer versions of this van. (07-18) The Diesel engines were ok, but the transmissions were terrible. Both manual and automated manual (kinda auto) were so unreliable. Also the build quality was so poor prior to 2014, that the manual transmissions started to fall off on a batch from 2011. The paintwork on white vans would wash off after 2 years and was a long term known problem. They also creak over every bump. Not loved by customers or staff.
    I hope the problems have been fixed for the Promaster and the revised 23 model is much better. Odd choice that the side windows are now plastic polycarbonate and not glass.

      They no longer offer the diesel powertrain in North America. I worked at a company that had one. The diesel engine was good, but that manumatic was awful. It shifted so slow that it was dangerous to drive in heavy traffic while loaded.

I completely agree with those who've said that it would've been great if the seats behind the driver and front passenger folded down to provide a sleeping area -- needless to say, the partition would have to go to do that.

People who want to keep themselves ultra rich, and dont give the slightest crap about you and me. They see us as peasants. This might seem a bit over the top, but look at the facts..they build year after year very unreliable low performing parts/vehicles, when they had the technology to do it right decades ago. And they cant be bothered to makes simple steering wheel fixes when they know good and well how uncomfortanle they are for lots of people. And the list goes on. Now that they have the 9 speed in the Promaster, when can we expect to see Ram replace the 3.6 with the 2.0? The 2.0 has more torque and similar horsepower to the 3.6.

    • @americanrambler4972
      @americanrambler4972 2 роки тому +3

      In my opinion, that probably won’t happen. The 2.0 is fine for a lighter vehicle, but I suspect with the additional weight and payloads being carried in the Promaster, the real world fuel economy will be disappointing. When you start using boost in a turbo motor on a more or less continuous basis, fuel burn increases substantially. That’s part of the reason Ford opted to offer the 7.3 v8 in their heavy duty line of trucks. Under load, the fuel burn was competitive and the engine is under less stress in that environment.

Dude, the Promaster is not « like », it IS called the Fiat Ducato in Europe and this version is the facelift they got in 2014! So basically, when WE got the Promaster in 2014, we got the already obsolete version that had been on sale in Europe since 2006! We have a 16 y.o. design basically, and now that we are getting the facelift, it’s already 8-9 years old in Europe. Plus, the lack of engine choices is pretty lame. Which is sad since the FWD platform is pretty appealing for snowy climates.
